I saw Get Smart this weekend and there was a girl behind me that laughed at literally anything in all of the trailers, then once the movie started she didn't hardly laugh at all. I'm not sure what that says about Get Smart.

Schilling had some down years in Philly after their 1993 WS run where he had some arm problems if I recall. The Phillies were also fairly mediocre during that time period. However, once Schilling was healthy and moved to Arizona (and then to Boston) he dazzled with 20 win seasons in 2001, 2002, and 2004. The late career renaissance along with his awesome playoff performances will get him in the Hall.

I heard a rumor of the Edge/Alicia Fox stuff, with Vicki somehow turning face in it. Which is a crazy angle, since Vicki has more heel heat than Edge and it will be really hard for her to go face at this point without Edge dumping her and cutting a mammoth heel promo. UT has to end up on Raw at this point. There's nothing interesting for him on SD. I have zero interest in him vs. HHH again, might want to see him get the blowoff against Edge but that's about it. On Raw he can feud with Cena, Michaels, Jericho, and so on.

Kwai, the Russo shows were drawing that much but bear in mind the Kreski stuff did as well or better in 2000 and most of that was HHH and The Rock fighting over who was the better man. And one major difference is that the PPV buyrates were up in 2000 with more wrestling centered shows, but they had a better roster then anyway. Tonight's show was bizarre. For a while I figured Jeff might get a push on SD but the last pick (HHH) basically means Jeff gets nowhere further than he is right now, and HHH gets to finally get his rocks off by burying Edge. I thought Cena would be the last pick. Some of these were pretty obvious: Batista and Punk to Raw were easy since both were played out. Matt going to ECW...I feel sorry for the guy. Hopefully he won't have anything bad happen to him, like a major injury or being released, etc. Where does UT really fit into any of this? I can't see him on SD at this point with HHH moving to that show, so maybe he returns on Raw and they can build to him vs. Cena or HBK.

I've never walked out of a movie before and haven't really been tempted to do so. Hell I even saw Gigli at the theater, mainly to see how bad it was going to be. There were a couple of other people there and they walked out though.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion

Beast, if that is true about Flair refusing to job to Luger then that might be worse than Bret refusing to job to Shawn. Bret had in fact already put Shawn over in the Iron Man match for the title, whereas Flair had retained over Luger via every bullshit screwjob you could imagine from 1988-90. -
Get Smart is decent enough, though at times it can't figure out if it wants to be a silly comedy or a straight up action movie. Khali has a shockingly decent role in it, probably more screen time than The Rock had. To touch on the point Rudo made about Austin Powers, the first had the brilliant premise of Powers being hopelessly out of touch some 30 years after his 60s prime. The inherent problem the sequels had is that he keeps going back in time, first to the 60s and then to the 70s. Where's the comedic tension of Powers being back in his comfort zone in swinging 60s London?

If they want to make movies can't they make something like Iron Man instead of 27 Dresses? Comic book action adventure instead of chick flick.

Okay that sounds like a great show that is upcoming. That said, in my book Flair can't say SHIT about Bret not wanting to job to Michaels when he himself left WCW with the title in 1991 and even showed the belt off on WWF TV. And yes we all know Jim Herd is an idiot, but maybe if Flair had still jobbed the title to Luger despite his problems with Herd and left WCW then I'd listen to his trashing of Bret. -
What's sad about this Hulk movie is that the 2003 Hulk made 62 million when it first came out compared to this one's 54-55 million. The 2003 film had a 69% plummet the next week, but it was still right at 100 million. So this one is actually behind that one, and had a similar 61% drop in week 2.

Let's see, I have tapes of some ECW shows like A Matter of Respect and Hardcore Heaven 96 and those both have RVD/Sabu matches. That said I have no idea how much of it was on the actual TV show, or maybe just in clips. Seems like ECW debuted in my area in the Summer of 1996, but I can't remember exactly when.
-
Considering this is Russo we're talking about here, I would surely think he knows the possible meaning of Pink Taco. Speaking of which, anyone else find it hilarious that TNA actually names each episode? Like this was Showdown at the Pink Taco and previous weeks have had the show's title at the beginning.
-
Just wondering but when does Rob Van Dam start becoming a more integral part of these shows? It seems very odd since they showed his debut match against Axl Rotten....and then he hasn't been on another show. When does the Sabu/RVD feud start heating up? I thought it was around the time of April 1996.
-
Well, it was more of a planting the seeds for the future type show than anything. I couldn't remember off hand the EXACT show where Rocky did the heel turn, or the precise moment when DX became DX. In fact I recall a HHH/HBK beatdown of UT as being more of the actual moment where these guys became a team, which should be coming in the next week or two.
-
Watching these shows in retrospect it's amazing how much more loathesome HBK is as a heel than the Harts. I don't think Bret wanted to go full blast with his heel turn and wanted the Canadian fans to still like him, while wanting Americans to boo him. I've always felt this created a sense of confusion amongst fans as to how they should truly feel about him. There was a lot more you could do with Michaels acting like a total asshole to everybody. Let's say they had done Austin/Bret at WM XIV in a rematch. Would it have worked as well? I can tell you one major reason I wanted to see that PPV was to see Shawn finally get his ass kicked after months and months of ripping people off. He wanted everyone to hate his guts. Would Austin's title win have worked as well if it was against Bret, with Bret still the Canadian hero and not wanting to be 100% hated?

I think Zooey is a pretty decent deadpan comedic actress from what I've seen, but an end of the world horror thriller is a bit out of her area. Anyway, The Happening is still a "so bad it's good" flick, probably best viewed while intoxicated.

Who are you to doubt the mighty ? You know what's funny though....Love Guru got *1/2 in the newspaper yesterday and Get Smart got the same review. Get Smart doesn't look astounding or anything, but it certainly should be better than Guru.

The past few shows from Memphis (or is it Nashville, they never say?) have been really fun stuff. It helps to get away from that stale as hell Vegas locale. That said, what is with the AWA's booking of Lawler as champion? Before the Kerry interpromotional feud, he had no real storyline with anyone and he never got much promo time on ESPN. The absurd thing is that Lawler could probably sell me on him vs. Soldad Ustinov if they would just let him fucking talk!

It truly amazes me that WWE has pissed away virtually all of the guys Heyman got over in OVW. Ken Doane looked like a future star and he's buried at this point. Jeter was mega over as a heel in OVW, he's now released. Lashley first made his mark in OVW, he was released. Albright got over as a serious wrestler in OVW, he was released. I mean what does it say when friggin Nick Nemeth is the guy here with the best shot at stardom at this point? As far as the Squad members go, Kenny, Jeter, and Mondo were ALL more talented than him. I guess Nemeth is better than Nick Mitchell, but that's about it. On another note, I will second the notion of RVD/Edge from Vengeance being an awesome match. The finish was particularly brilliant.

You can still be a cocky bastard and get massive cheers. As far as MVP goes, he would make for a better face than Kennedy for instance. MVP can make some changes in his act and get cheered, whereas Kennedy's entire schtick that got him over is so ultra annoying it can't translate to being a face act (MIIIIISSTTEEER KENNNEEEDDDDY!!!!). Just have La Familia beat the crap out of MVP, then he'll likely get cheered.
-
I think the point of La Familia is that they are essentially shitty and are mostly just lackey fodder for Edge to throw at people. I almost would consider putting Koslov in there with them just to give them some actual muscle that isn't a jobber, sorta like the role he played in OVW with Team America. The main problem I have with it is that I never get the feeling the vast majority of SD's roster cares about Vicki's rampant abuse of power. They just casually have their matches and all that. Why doesn't someone on the face side simply issue a challenge of "Career vs. Vicki's job as GM" and be done with it?

Well, I actually saw The Happening today. It's certainly more entertaining than either The Village or Lady in the Water if nothing else, but below his first 3 movies. Sure, it's goofy as hell but at least this film actually moves and has a pace. Anyway The Happening certainly isn't a GOOD movie by any means, but if you want a cheap rental someday it's worth a viewing for laughs.

I will also agree that Gail Kim being at the center of this Beautiful People angle is frustrating. They had Roxxi's head shaved....for what reason exactly? Why is Gail feuding with them at all, when they helped her win a #1 contender match? It's like TNA refuses to grasp the notion that Kim needs a trip down the card right now.
-
I dunno, I figure since The Village isn't THAT old of a movie some people might not want it spoiled. If I'm discussing Star Wars or something, to hell with the tags. But since no one cares about The Village.... If I recall that grave in The Village was actually a recently dug grave with a new head stone, so it was definitely there to tell you an exact year, only to pull the rug out later.

Eh I figure that Hog Wild art was just done before the whole Hogan heel turn went down. WWE does posters for shows that are out of date all the time. I actually rented some WCW tapes from a now defunct store called Hastings (they had movies, music, books, etc.). I rented Slamboree 1996 only to find GAB 96 in there instead, which is actually a WAY better PPV. A few days later I went back and complained about the mix up, and then they gave me the free rental on Slamboree 96, haha.
