The Gooker is mentioned entirely too much. He didn't do anything all that relevant. I'd mention a bunch of cheesy early 90s gimmicks on that show. Thing is though...did these cheesy characters really get pushed that hard or ruin things? It's pro wrestling for crying out loud, silly gimmicks are part of it. I really hope they talk about Muhammed Hassan though. Terrible character, bad wrestler, and what's worse is that I think they may have tried to push him if he'd stayed around.

Oh, those shows rule. But man by late 1986 it seems like the Rockers had left and Hall also had quit the company. So those shows are pretty hard to watch. Hopefully they'll show the 60m draw with Bockwinkel and Hennig. Was that the Rockers' ill fated original WWF stint or were they in Memphis? I know the first time I ever saw them was on a Memphis show circa 1988. I thought they ruled.

This is what happens when you put barely trained centerfolds in the ring. I don't get why WWE doesn't grasp the difference between eye candy and actual women workers.

I enjoyed most of the show, Flair/Vince was really fun stuff and the Santino/Lawler hijinks were once again really funny. That said, I really can't condone stuff like that main event. We've sorta figured for years now that most of Raw's roster is buried, but this just makes it official to everyone that about 80% of the roster is garbage.

Anklelock, let me point out one thing about Tennessee here. It seems to me whenever a coach or team whines about their seed, that team is destined to lose early. See Gonzaga in 2002 for the prime example. Couple of other random notes: What is with the seeding of Oklahoma in this bracket? Can anyone possibly explain how these guys got a 6, while Butler and IU got a 7 and 8? I know IU tanked a bit after the Sampson debacle, but they've still accomplished more than OU. Further, with U of L as the 3 in that region why on earth would they not put IU as the 6 (which is more indicative of their ranking and RPI) and hope for a U of L vs. IU 2nd round game? It seems like going out of your way to set up heatless matchups. OU just sorta seems like that 8/9 type team, playing Arkansas would make sense. Also, to further the notion that Davidson is a sucker bet I took a look at their results. Most people picking them to do serious damage cite the close losses they had vs. UNC and Duke. Thing is, Davidson hasn't beaten ANYONE all year. Sure, they won 23 straight games...against teams in the 200s in the RPI. The best win Davidson has had all year was over #109 Winthrop.

Lushus, I watched every week from Feb. 1992 on that year and it was shocking to me to one morning get up for WWF Superstars and see Mean Gene interviewing the NEW WWF champion Bret Hart. It was truly bizarre at the time to change the title on a house show or TV taping like that.

Here are my so called "idiotic ramblings" for the tourney. My FF is UNC, Kansas, Texas, and UCLA. In the regional finals I have UNC/U of L, Kansas vs. Gonzaga (which is my one Cinderella), Texas over Memphis, and UCLA over Duke. It's quite possible I'll end up wrong but it just looks like there's a pretty clear cut upper echelon and once you get past that there aren't that many contenders. As far as the contingency plan of UK and WKU, I do have both winning 1 game but that's all. I got to that Drake/WKU game and it was a real tough call but then noticed I didn't have a 5/12 upset, so I went with WKU. I picked UK to win since I can't recall a time when UK was out 1st round, I think the last time was like 1982. And of course those on here know I have an intense dislike for Marquette, so I am NOT picking them to win anything. I don't see why it's absurd to put U of L in the Elite 8 though. I have Tennessee losing 2nd round to Butler. Bear in mind Butler beat their asses in the preseason NIT last year. What's odd is that there are some teams that I haven't liked this year at all yet I have them going to the Sweet 16. I have thought Stanford was a 2nd round upset waiting to happen, but once I had UK over Marquette I figured Stanford would beat UK pretty easy. Purdue was a team I was dying to put as a 1st round upset, yet I didn't even think Baylor would make the tourney. Add to that I had UGA over Xavier as my yearly 3/14 upset and thus I ended up with Purdue in the Sweet 16 by default. That said, there are some I haven't liked that are still going down in my bracket. As much as I've ranted on Georgetown there's no way I could have them going far, thus I have them out 2nd round to Gonzaga. Lot of people are picking Davidson, but for whatever reason that seems like a sucker bet to me. Davidson has played some teams tough but have they really beaten anyone good? Also, I still have nightmares about Wisconsin in the 2000 FF, so the sooner they are out the better. I have them losing to Kansas St. with Beasley going off on them. Anyway, in the final I have UNC vs. Texas, with Texas winning it all. I like Texas' draw this year, since they would go through Houston and then San Antonio.

Let's Talk About... The 1993 Survivor Series
cabbageboy replied to LivingLegendGaryColeman's topic in General Wrestling
Well, Vince and Jesse were two guys who were both way too serious and argued with each other a lot. Gorilla would take Jesse's antics more in stride and you could tell they actually respected each other. I don't recall Heenan's brilliance on this show and I just saw it on 24/7 not too long ago, but I'll take everyone at their word that he was awesome. This was a decent show, nothing ultra memorable. I did like the SMW tag title match on the show, though I wondered why they would run that particular match in the Northeast where no one knew anything about SMW. WCW did a better job with that in 1993, when they put RNR vs. Heavenly Bodies on the SuperBrawl PPV from Asheville, which was right in the heart of that redneck fanbase. -
Yeah, WM VIII was a great show and a personal favorite of mine. Piper/Bret, Flair/Macho...both among the better WM matches ever. If that isn't Piper's best match maybe the chain match with Valentine from Starrcade 83 is instead. This was also the PPV that got me back into wrestling after not watching at all in 1990-91. The first show I watched when I got back into wrestling was the SNME that set up this WM, with Sid turning on Hogan and UT's face turn on Jake. I was hooked again immediately. Only drawback to this WM: Bulldog didn't get to wail on the Berserker! Oh well, I did get to see him beat the Berserker's ass in one of Davey Boy's last 1992 appearances circa Oct. 92. In fact it was the day after he lost the IC to Michaels.

I wondered that as well, maybe there was a TV Special on in Dallas that cut the show to 30m that week?

I still think Tennessee will somehow get a 1. They are still #1 in the RPI and who exactly is going to replace them? I know Texas beat them head to head, but TX also has some weird losses. Kansas has nowhere near the SOS that Tennessee has. Anyway, I think UCLA is the current #1 seed most likely to lose early since I just dislike that crappy Ben Howland style of play. Honestly it is a drawback that hurts some very talented players. Playing these ugly 65-64 type games might get you to a FF, but you can't win the title with it and it also leaves you open for an upset. Of the teams who could get a 1, Tennessee certainly could go down in the 2nd round. They are fun to watch but can't play D for shit, so a dangerous 8/9 team could give them a fit. After all, they lost to Arkansas yesterday and ARK is basically an 8/9 type team.
-
Amen to Tenn vs. Ark today. That was just a magnificent display of basketball at the highest level, unlike the various dreck we've seen in the Big 10 tourney and some games in the Big East tourney. Seriously, this was like watching a 1990s UK vs. Arkansas game. It should have been the final, instead now we get an ultra shit jobber like UGA trying to take someone's bid tomorrow.
-
Eh, bear in mind I am a U of L fan moreso than UK. I do follow UK and watch their games though. I don't see how they can keep UK out though, not at 12-4 in the conf. Keep in mind Stanford was like 18-12 and 67 in RPI last year and they got in. Besides, can you really leave UK out given the bizarre circumstances of this game?
-
Nah, fuck that. The bracket flat out has to be announced on Sunday. The SEC final is likely going to just be Tennessee vs. either UK or Miss St. anyway so it's not like it will matter in terms of final seeding. It would really be better to just have UK/UGA play twice and if it's UK I doubt the committee would hold a Miss St. loss the same day against them.
-
Yesterday I ranted against the Pac 10 being such an amazing conference and the game results bear me out. There are clearly 4 tourney teams in the Pac 10 and the rest are NIT teams. On what planet is Arizona St. a tourney team with a 70+ RPI and a Pac 10 tourney loss to USC? Oregon is NIT bound as well. They'll probably still let Arizona in just because they always make it. As far as the SEC goes, I have to wonder if UGA beating Ole Miss could be dubious news for UK. It was an OT game and UK should win it but what if UK loses this game? It would be a loss to a team with a 140 or so RPI, so I wonder if that would put UK back on the bubble. At least if Ole Miss had won and UK lost to them, it wouldn't be a biggie.

Oh joy, U of L loses to Pitt yet AGAIN in the Big East tourney. Ah well, as I said recently there are worse things that dropping to a 4 seed if it's in the right bracket. I'll take being a 4 in the Tennesee or Memphis region. I'd rather not have U of L shipped out west to be screwed by UCLA, and UNC in Charlotte isn't a feasible win. Man, this BE tourney has already become a total joke. UConn, U of L, and ND all losing today sets up the epic matchups of G'Town/WVU and Pitt/Quette. I have to admit though, once I saw Pitt was U of L's potential first game I knew we were in some trouble.

Anyone care to explain why everyone keeps pimping the Pac 10 so hard? Aside from UCLA I don't really see anything special there. Stanford has run up a big record on the 77th SOS, and will almost surely be a 2nd round upset pick in my bracket. Washington St. is a boring plodder team that I'll also have gone in the 2nd round. USC actually could be a threat on a good day, but they are so up and down I'm not sure whether to pick them to go far or not. Those are the locks. Arizona has a good RPI and SOS but with a losing conf. record I don't really think they should make the tourney unless they make a Pac 10 tourney run. Oregon is a very mediocre team (18-12, 54 RPI), do they really deserve to get in? And I'm mystified as to why so many experts are putting Arizona St. in the field at 19-11 with a 75 RPI. The Pac 10 should get about 5 bids. The 4 main teams (UCLA, USC, Stanford, Wash St.) plus whoever can make a Pac 10 tourney run.

I actually liked it better watching a 2nd time on DVD. Maybe it's because I knew more of what was coming this time so I was able to just go with it. While I certainly agree that Tommy Lee Jones sucked as Two Face, I do think he's good in JFK. I blame Schumacher more for that crap though, since Jones was actually a good casting choice for Harvey Dent. The script and direction were the problem. Having seen a few interviews with the real Clay Shaw though Jones did a good job with that role. As far as Pesci goes, I have no idea what the real David Ferrie was like but from the few pics I've seen of Ferrie he looked like a total psycho.

I don't really have many wrestler stories but in 2004 I did meet a bunch of guys at a Hooters, this was after helping a friend move and we were chilling afterwards. It was a group of OVW guys from that time period like Matt Morgan, Shannon Moore, Sakoda, and Luther Reigns. Morgan had two blondes with him with really huge fake tits. Moore was certainly the coolest, he chatted with us for a while, with Morgan mostly drinking beer. Luther mostly sulked in the corner.

Yeah I had the same vibe about Kristy's goofy version of Eight Days a Week, even saying it seemed like something a once popular country singer on a Branson based label would do. Thing is, since those people at one time had some respect this sort of thing is overlooked. With that said, Archuleta should have by all rights been gone. The bottom 3 were lethargic or even comical, but at least none of them forgot the words or generally blew it.
-
The MVC always gets 2 bids so I think Illinois St. is going to get in. They would be in much better shape though if they hadn't been utter bitches against Drake in that final however. WKU! WKU! My parents' alma mater is officially in the tourney after beating Middle TN last night. Please put them against some lame, overseeded major conf. team. I think ESPN's bracket had them against Purdue, which would be one of the most obvious upset picks ever.

Given the amount of black women on TNA's roster and the various angles they are involved in I have to wonder if Russo, Jarrett, or someone has a serious fondness for brown sugar. Thing is with Joe and Angle....this is a match that Joe MUST win. Every single storyline thread, every single angle leading up to this match, all of it means Joe has to win. Hell not even the NWA's booking in 1987-88 would be dumb enough to job out Joe here. The initial 3 matches with Angle, well, Angle was new and in theory sorta had to go over. The match with Karen's involvement was her initial debut angle so Joe had to lose. But now? There's no more bullshit they can do. Joe has to win.

I don't think Jericho is laughing and making fun of Jeff over this. He might be relieved to get another shot on top at some point, but he's probably being more low key about it. The thing that amazes me is that Hardy was tested so close to WM. Of course if he failed a test after WM then they would probably panic and job the MITB off of him anyway so it likely wouldn't matter, but at least you don't wreck the card. I'd go with either MVP or Matt winning MITB at this point. Maybe MVP wins MITB, Matt beats him for the US title, and there ya go.

Well Duke did just lose to the #1 team in the nation, so I doubt they would fall that much. It's funny but when UK lost to San Diego early in the season I didn't feel it was that bad of a loss, at least not like that Gardner-Webb fiasco. I sorta kept track of USD in the WCC after that game and noticed that they were winning consistently out there, only losing to Gonzaga twice and St. Mary's once in conf. play. Now they are in the tourney, thanks to having the tourney on their court. I wonder, does the WCC actually get 3 bids or is St. Mary's basically screwed? South Alabama lost tonight to Middle Tennessee. Well, WKU...the Sun Belt tourney is yours. Now don't blow it!

No way, Joe/Angle obviously has to main event that show. And like I said before, Joe 100% needs to kick the shit out of Angle at that PPV. No bullshit with Karen. No Styles/Tomko run ins, no idiotic heel turns. Just 20 mins. or so of Joe beating the holy hell out of Angle in a cage for the title.
