Yeah it was okay. Dare I say it would have been a better Woody Harrelson movie with him starring, with Ferrell as more of a comedy relief side character? Woody's character was much more interesting, kinda like Tom Berenger in Major League. There's a good movie to be made about the dying days of the ABA, but a juvenile Will Ferrell movie isn't really the way to go.

Here is the thing though. Why keep booking Punk getting shot after shot on TV/PPV when it means he's just jobbing? Can't Punk just squash some jobber or have a decent match with anyone else, or can't Chavo defend against anyone besides Punk? Build to a rematch, guys. It's like they care so little about ECW that they just book the same stuff over and over.

The thing that is odd about the Boise play being so far in that tourney is that the Statue of Liberty play isn't even the interesting play from that game. It was an amusing little play on a 2 point conversion. The real mindblowing play was the hook and ladder that tied it. The hockey goal being #1? Um..why? It's more of a moment that was great than any sort of great play. It's a typical hockey goal, with the dude knocking the puck past the goalie.

Is it just me or are none of these angles connecting with fans at the arenas at all? This whole Vince/Finlay/JBL/Hornswoggle angle is so bizarre, but I have to admit I laughed my ass off at JBL abusing the midget in the hospital (wonder what happened when the lights were out....nevermind). What is up with the MITB match seemingly being nothing but Raw guys? Jeff, Jericho, Kennedy, and now Carlito. Are there going to be any SD or ECW guys in the match at all?

I am so going to record that WresleWar PPV. I am trying to check out all the old school WCW PPVs I can find since there's really nowhere else where they are available (unless you wanna pay through the nose on ebay).

What is this theory of an upcoming G'Town assbeating of U of L based on? Their stellar play in the first meeting? Their overall conf. play of getting every call known to man and all the luck in the world? It doesn't even matter if they bullshit their way past U of L next week.....U of L is a better team that Georgetown this year and once the Hoyas get into the NCAA tourney they won't make it past the 2nd round. Both teams are 14-3 in the Big East; U of L could be more like 15-1, Georgetown should be more like 11-6.

I enjoyed it pretty well, but did anyone else feel that they should have made Ferrell's role a supporting character and made Woody Harrelson the main character? His character is much more compelling in the film (washed up former NBA star now playing out his career in the ABA, turns player/coach). While I'm not old enough to remember the ABA, there are plenty of people in Louisville who are still bitter about the way the Kentucky Colonels were screwed over and disbanded. While the depiction of the ABA in this film is sorta accurate, it's not in other aspects. The ABA did have crazy marketing schemes to boost lousy attendance. However, the league was certainly not some sort of semi-pro crap. There were all sorts of major stars in the ABA and in fact the actual level of play for the top teams was likely better than the NBA of the same time period.

It is official: I am sick of fucking Georgetown. Marquette's James actually fouled Wallace on a 3 attempt today with 2.8 left...up 3. Of course he hits all 3, game goes to OT, G'Town wins. I guess if U of L wants G'Town's ass kicked, they'll have to kick it.

The one chick did a Chicago song....I flat out knew 100% she was gone after that shit. I have a seriously dislike for Chicago (the band) and apparently others feel the same way.

I dunno about this Gonzalez superiority over Khali. UT vs. Khali in the Last Man Standing match on SD a while back was a shockingly good match I thought. And we've seen Khali have some passable matches with Cena. I can't think of ANY semblance of a decent Gonzalez match. That said, the WM IX match with UT isn't as bad as reputed. Just one more mediocre match on a bottom tier WM.

John Cena calls out the The Rock for leaving wrestling
cabbageboy replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
One more match to do what exactly? If you are The Rock, would you be in a hurry to come back to wrestle and put over WWE's Flavor of the Week? Or a guy you personally dislike (HBK)? -
I like Ferrell well enough but I have to say his best role to me is still the crazed wildlife marshal in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

UK is wildly compelling. They are utterly horrible, everyone KNOWS this for a fact, yet they keep scraping by and winning these ugly SEC games against lousy teams. And occasionally spring an upset over TN and Vandy. UK has exactly 3 ballplayers on that team (Crawford, Bradley, Patterson) and everyone else is awful. Jodie Meeks could be a decent player but he's been hurt all year. Losing to UK is why I am not exactly in fear of Tennessee come March. UK didn't really do anything all that flukish to win....just play adequate and control Lofton and you've got a chance. U of L got a nice win over Notre Dame tonight, but I dunno, it was just shaky as hell. It should have been a 20 point blowout, but U of L sucks ass at the FT line (almost as bad as Memphis). Harangody is absolutely The Man, good grief. Anyway, just beat Nova on Senior Day and then worry about the epic Georgetown finale that should decide the Big East.

WCCW has several intriguing things going on right now: --Obviously the Freebirds/Von Erichs stuff. --This hilarious Devastation Inc. vs. Arman Hussein and Co. feud. I swear this is a heel vs. heel faction type deal. On one side we have Bundy, Kabuki, Kamala, etc. On the other we have Yatsu, Magic Dragon, Checkmate. I wonder who wins that one! --Jimmy Garvin's bizarre gimmick of never wanting his matches filmed so no one can scout him. I don't truly understand this angle, since all wrestlers should want to have all the TV time they can get. But his promo was curious since he trashed the Von Erichs, Freebirds, etc. Another tweener gimmick? -
I noticed a few weeks ago that Tennessee had Memphis and Vandy back to back on the road and thought that was insane. Vandy is nearly invincible at home, so this was hardly a bad loss. It's weird because while I don't think Tennessee is overrated, I'd love for U of L to be in their bracket. I think we'd destroy them inside. Under Pitino U of L owns the Vols.

I am baffled as to the hype behind Archuleta's performance of Imagine last night. In fact as it began I actually thought "Man, he is butchering this..." And by the way, All by Myself is originally by Eric Carmen. Celine Dion's first album was in 1990.

Of the various old shows I think WCCW is better than the NWA/WCW shows. Those WCW shows have too many jobber squash matches, whereas WCCW has a lot of solid action. I will say that the WCW shows have vastly better promos on them, but that goes without saying. On the recent show I laughed so hard at Dusty's interview in the studio after they showed his loss to Tully. He ranted and raved about "They have taken everything from me! The World title! National title! Why not just take the clothes off my back??" Then he proceeds to strip, with the camera cutting him off as he takes off his pants, haha. -
There's some decent stuff on WM 2. The Bulldogs/Dream Team match is terrific and definitely non formula, since it doesn't rely on the played out face in peril or double teaming spots. Funks vs. JYD/Tito is a decent match, the battle royale is fun for what it is, and Hogan/Bundy is a typical Hogan match of the time period (as in fun if you like this stuff).

There is no way in hell they would put Kennedy over in the MITB again. To be honest I think Kennedy is a lost cause, and the whole notion of someone winning MITB and cashing it in the same night at WM is the sort of goofy fantasy booking that I ranted against last year when some people thought Edge should do this same thing (He actually kinda did, but that was a couple months later). What sense does it make for a guy who has taken insane bumps in a ladder match to cash in the same night? Is it really a big advantage?

Well, the one thing I can say is that at least Clooney's flick didn't get a heap of stuff it didn't on any level deserve. Tilda Swinton winning is odd to me, especially in a category where Amy Ryan was a lot, lot better in my view. Hell, of the main people in Michael Clayton she was certainly the least impressive (I think Tom Wilkinson should have been best supporting). The major stuff went about like I thought it went, despite my upset pick of Juno. I figure NCFOM would actually win, but let me say this....that movie is bound to now get a MASSIVE backlash against it.
-
I saw Michael Clayton and enjoyed it well enough, but I still have to say this: SEVEN friggin nominations for this? It's a solid *** type movie, but not much different than about 2 dozen other lawyer conspiracy movies. Would anyone give Class Action with Gene Hackman or Primal Fear with Richard Gere 7 nominations? I haven't seen Atonement since it's the one nominee that doesn't really interest me, though I might check out the DVD at some point. Of the 4 I've seen I'd rank them like this: 1. There Will Be Blood 2. No Country For Old Men 3. Juno 4. Michael Clayton

10,000 BC also has absolutely no one in it. I took a look on imdb and the only person in it I could pick out of a lineup would be Omar Sharif. No stars and no discernable plot = flop.

Good grief, why not just show it anyway? They show old shows from 25 years ago with iffy quality, I think we can stand one Nitro. Anyway, I didn't remember some of this stuff on Raw. Like the whole hilarious RVD/Funk match with Heyman and Dreamer sitting at ringside, only to have Heyman jump the rail and attack Lawler! Lawler of course beat his ass, then Dreamer attacked Lawler, RVD jumps in. It was a fun angle, though it was a shame that the WWF audience really didn't get what was going on since it was mainly an ECW angle. -
They were horrid and very overpushed. Let's face it, they were only pushed due to Vince's goofy obsession with the PTC. This didn't entertain much of anyone. A friend of mine went to Survivor Series 2000 in Tampa and said it was excruciating for the audience having to hear the horrible siren music of RTC 3 or 4 times that night. As far as Stevie's best work goes, it's easily his 1995-97 ECW run.

You know, I kinda liked it too. Styles was fun and seems like quite the nice guy. Made me want to see Karen kick Kurt to the street. I said this a while ago in another TNA thread, but this Joe/Angle match at Lockdown flat out 100% must be a clean finish with Joe beating the holy hell out of Angle. I mean a 20 minute long beatdown with Angle getting some hope spots but nothing else. No run ins. No bullshit. No ref bumps. Put Joe over strong for the belt.
