WON Notes for Dec 6th issue

In 1998 in El Paso (Eddy's hometown) WCW Prez Eric B. got into an argument with Eddy and tossed coffee at him. Relations were strained for months after. Wasn't this the reason he thrw coffee over himself when he first got on the mic to form the LWO? Eddy once was drunk/angry and tried shooting on Kurt Angle in the locker room. Angle took him down and smothered him til it was broken up. I think this happened after a SD taping. The week before he'd had a go at Luther Reigns and Kurt for blowing his entrance. Even though it was down to Eddy Kurt and Luther apologised to keep the peace. Then the next week I think they had a match and a spot got blown, which led to Eddy blowing up at Kurt backstage so he just got Kurt just pinned him until agents came along and broke things up. Mando and Eddy were hanging out after his NWO title win last Feb. Mando sarcastically was picking on Eddy and/or the match and Eddy was so pissed he didn't speak to Mando for a year. Damn. Slight overreaction? Eddy was in such poor condition that he was told by a back specialist to retire in 2002, He had the back of a 70 or 80 year old. Just weeks ago Eddy went to a doctor and the Doc was astounded Eddy was able to walk. So much for wrestlers learning to "take bumps" and "protect each other". Eddy had been using HGH (Human Growth hormone) in an attempt to get bigger in recent months That explains the backne and brow. Austin did go to Arizona for the funeral, but didn't go inside the church. He sttod outside by a hill by himself, cause "Austin doesn't do funerals" That's pretty stupid. Newz: Hogan taped a "hogan knows best" segment at Steve "The Fabulous Skinner" Kiern's wrestling school. He and Knobbs were training Nick Hogan on the sport. Could yo get worse teachers? The reason that WWE hasn't ran MSG lately and have no future dates is because MSG is charging a 285,000 rental fee and WWE isn't drawing enough that they can make money running there Ha! Evicted for failing to pay rent. Vince Russo and Shawn both take credit for the Sharpshooter spot at Montreal in their new books. Both lied. I thought Patterson did that. Juventud is in trouble again: He wants his own talk show on SD!, Wants to feud with Rey jr and other upper carders, Wanted to have a mask vs mask match vs Rey...the agents pointed out Juvi isn't masked, Juvi thought for a moment and sais 'i'll wear one for the match. Eddy had been trying to settle Juvi down, to no avail. Tremendous.

    Random WWE News

Vince McMahon has written a page that will be inserted at the end of the upcoming Eddie Guerrero book, covering his passing. I wonder what spin will be put on the situation. The plan right now is for Trish Stratus to turn on Mickie James and the upcoming weeks, Officials feel that Stratus works better as a heel and Mickie makes for a great plucky underdog. This will not work. Trish can work as a heel but if she is going to get more cheers as one than her "face" opposition it's pretty stupid. John Cena will not be turning heel as the WWE will be enforcing that he has no friends in the Raw locker room and Monday was a taste of his more Austin like edge that he will use. Former WWE star Jamal was signed to become Cena's backup from the streets. A Samoan guy who has been working in Japan coming in as "back up from the streets". OK. Also considering how many tag team main events on RAW Cena has been in this kind of booking is a bit late. Big Show and Kane will now be heels on both Raw and Smackdown, agents state that they have proven to dominant to be faces of any kind and for those wondering about the segment with Triple H it was to show that Show and Kane answer to no one. So Show and Kane are above the laws of WWE? Then why all the authority figures (McMahons, GMs)? Shouldn't they be able to fire unruly employees? Stacy Keibler will be in 2 upcoming movies playing a character in "Manhunt in the Caribbean" and making an appearance in the sequel to "Big Momma's House" she has also apprently dyed her hair brown. I expect a thread debating her new look in a couple of weeks. Booker T was auditioning for an announcer spot on Friday's edition of Smackdown after he retires. Please dear God no. Both Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton will be in main event slots next year at Wrestlemania according to recent talks. Um... yay? Kurt Angle wants fans to know that he is in good shape and says fans hsouldn't worry about him. Being in shape is one thing, being injured and painkillers to do your job is another. If you noticed that certain superstars don't seem as toned or ripped it's because the WWE is taking the drug policy very seriously. I haven't noticed anything... anyone else noticed anything? The idea behind Martin Wright's "Boogeyman" character was derived from Shane McMahon's brainstorming. The man who agreed to have his nuts electrocuted on TV got his idea cleared. Fantastic. HBK wants to start a program with John Cena. I wonder how deeply he'd bury Cena compared to his burial of Masters? Jamie Noble will be returning to SmackDown! house shows towards the end of December Hopefully he'll make it to TV rather than get sent to OVW. The Women's Championship will be defended on both shows soon as a throwback to the first draft. So Trish is like Kane and Big Show? WTF? Trevor Murdoch is expected to get pushed more heavily and is going to feud with Chavo Guerrero. Um... yay?

Kurt Angle Responds To "Death Watch" Rumors

Didn't he suffer partial never damage in his arms after the WM match with Brock? You could see at the Rumble earlier this year after he got dumped from the ring he was clutching his hand to get feeling back into it. I think that's a pretty obvious sign he's not in perfect health. In a way I am not surprised his wife and he have separated. He's away most of the year, gets home and doesn't want to do anything because he's in too much pain, won't quit despite the growing list of aches, pains and surgeries, is likely going to end up in a wheelchair before his kid has even grown up... not quite the Cosbys.

    Vince saying "Nigga"

A white person not offended by someone saying "nigger" isn't surprising. A Black person not offended by someone saying nigger... that would be surprising.

    Shelton Benjamin v. Trevor Murdoch

Harley Race trained Murdoch. Race is respected by many so his boy is getting a push. Shelton Benjamin turned down a shitty gimmick and misses spots. His push has been taken away. Add to that he's black (for all the racist angles booked in WWE, aside from Virgil vs Dibiase and maybe Snuka vs Piper, has the racist ever received his comeuppance? More recently I can recall Orton vs Shelton and Booker vs HHH where in both cases the Evo members went over) and apparently doesn't involve himself in the backstage politics and you have a guy very unlikely to end up with the World title.

    Vince saying "Nigga"

Not as funny because then it would come off as more redneckish, whereas Vince saying it screams "rich pompous white guy totally out of touch with reality". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If that was indeed their intent, it's only funny because it's true... although why they'd try make light of it I don't know. Then again, I don't know why Rob Conway gets beat up by 60 year olds or why Edge has been rewarded for fucking another worker's long term partner. I guess I no longer "get" WWE. Even if they were trying to portray Vince as "uncool old white guy" they could have went about it in a different way. Vince being left hanging after asking Cena to "lay him some skin on the flipside, daddio!" or trying to have a conversation with Cena and overusing ebonics ("Hey there John" "Sup Vince, what's going down?" "Well, er, check this out John, my homie Bischoff is getting on my last nerve for real, word to your mother, so the Vinceizzle has --" "Hold up... Vinceizzle? I didn't understand a word you said. What was that about my mother?") could have done the same job without any racial slurs being used.
  9. cameron chaos

    Vince saying "Nigga"

As for this whole "nigger means different things to different people", I thought it came about from French slave owners using the term "negre" and it simply got adapted by different slave owning cultures to better fit their dialect. It's meaning was established due to it's use in reference to slaves so how it can vary I don't quite understand. Although I suppose a Tupac fan could claim it's "Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished" that's much like women claiming bitch means "Beautiful Intelligent Totally Cool Hottie". A bit of research also suggests it had to do with African slaves being taken from Nigeria and being given an abbreviated form of their people (Nigerians became niggers). An affluent white guy calling another white guy "nigger" is just stupid. It's not funny, it's not cute, it's just stupid. It's not worth getting offended over, it's simply a sad but clear sign that Cena has passed into parody and Vince doesn't care about the concepts of tacts or good taste, so much so the boss feels comfortable making allusions to Cena being a "nigger" while Booker T stands around nearby. The fact they made a point to have Booker around to point out the comment was unnecessary and in poor taste suggests to me they know they were putting something dodgy on the air, didn't care and threw Booker in there as proof of that. "Yeah, we used the word nigger while a black guy was standing around, what are you gonna do?"
  10. cameron chaos

    Vince saying "Nigga"

It's something that should never have even been considered let alone executed. However they did the "Wetback" "Cracka" exchange at the Rumble between Eddie and HHH so I guess racist comments are fair game. I really wish Vince had the "grapefruits" to say that to someone black not on his payroll though. I wonder how funny he'd find it all then.

    I'm Not Feeling Survivor Series

Haws By Gawd is correct, it's been what... 6 years? I think the main reason was Taker lost muscle due to knee and hip surgeries so his legs became thinner and out of proportion with the rest of his body. So it'd didn't look odd he chose jeans or loose leather pants for ring attire. Since about 2002 he's taken a greater interest in physical training again after he got into UFC due to Bradshaw and actually visited some MMA gyms (LVCC and Team Quest) for a bit of training. Apparently he got some tips from Randy Couture about maintaining muscle and flexibility as you get older so he's in much better shape than he was a few years ago, perhaps he just finally felt comfortable enough to go back to his old tights.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Karo was the third ranked judo player in the USA a couple of years So he's no slouch, but world class judo... not so sure about that though I'd have liked to see him against Trigg. Mariusz didn't submit the judo brown belts. He won by ippon on them all, clean throws where they landed on their backs. He's a big Polish dude though so it's no surprise he threw them around. A blue belt submitting a brown happens. Tyrone Glover is a brown belt and he got tapped by a blue, Mike Fowler was a brown belt at the time he got tapped by a blue... but these were in no gi matches so it's not the same as BJJ in terms of submissions allowed and the use of the gi. Did your guy get the brown belt in a gi or no gi match? I don't know, apparently it went back and forth and eventually they just called time and that was it. Apparently Frank had just dropped by to see a friend there and joined in the class, ended up rolling with BJ and they just kept going at it for the entire sparring session. Apparently Penn tapped Randy out a few times when he visited Team Quest but had trouble with Hendo when he visited Team Quest last year. Herring and Mir are training buddies at the Las Vegas Combat Club so I don't see them fighting anytime soon, especially since Heath has outstanding fights on his K-1 MMA contract. He still has lots of potential and age is in his favour so I think he could do well now he's moved back to the US. His training suffered in Holland with the lack of grappling coaches and skilled training partners his size as well as the obvious vices that can occur when in Amsterdam. If he refocuses and learns to kick properly so he doesn't blow his knee out because he didn't post his leg correctly I think he could be back up to speed withing 2 years, after which tim,e he will hopefully go back to PRIDE or move to the UFC.

A black belt in judo simply means you know all the judo throws there are. In Japan they have white belts and black belts, nothing in between, so you either know your shit or you don't. The standard of judo black belts varies wildly as Eastern European judo guys generally also do sambo tournaments and so are more familiar with submissions, Japanese judoka are heavily into throws but do incorporate some groundwork and subs, whereas most Western judo schools are the focus is on the throws with little time given to chokes and submissions. I know a BJJ purple belt called Mariusz that literally got his judo black belt in one class by throwing around all the lower belts before facing a line up (3 brown belts one at a time facing off against him, no breaks in between) and scoring perfect throws on all three of them. He walked in with no belt, walked out with a black. 3rd and 4th dan judo guys are pretty good and well rounded but that's because they've had the time to really study all the facets and history of the art. However most that get to that level are getting up their in years so you won't see them competing. Aopparently Penn was catching black belts when he was a purple. He went 30 mins no gi against Frank Shamrock when he was a blue... I don't know whether that says more about Penn's skills at the time or Frank's.

Who Will Test Positive For Steroids?

Michaels does have quite veiny arms even now. There's a photo in Power Slam three months ago of him on the back cover and his triceps and forearms are pretty map like. I heard he was asked to bulk up before they put him on TV.
  15. cameron chaos

Who Will Test Positive For Steroids?

His speed is not what it was due to knee surgeries. I still think if he was on roids though he'd have incurred far more muscle injuries due to his style.
  16. cameron chaos

Who Will Test Positive For Steroids?

Er... ok. I'm just saying, if he is on roids he's clearly not benefitted from them much as he is not defined or musclebound, he just looks chunky, he's not . Rey Mysterio and Sean Sherk are quite close in size and weight however Sherk is 100% clean and still looks like he's much bigger than Rey. I'd actually like Sass's opinion on this given his history with weightlifting and bodybuilding. I know there is a guy who is like 5'3 1/2" and has some of the largest biceps in the world who makes no bones about using. I personally don't think it's that crazy for a 5'3"-5'4" guy to put on 20-30 lbs of muscle during two years off by just training hard. He also hasn't displayed the traits of use either so the jury is out for me.
  17. cameron chaos

Who Will Test Positive For Steroids?

I have to disagree with you. I know Rey is a favorite of many (including myself) but I am not blind to the fact that he is just "bulked up". Sorry, but he's changed and it's because of substances other than what's available at GNC. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then he really should get his money back from dealer. He hasn't got the results roids should get a short guy. I know a guy that works doors not much taller than Rey who looks like a brick wall with veins compared to Rey's more rounded look.
  18. cameron chaos

Who Will Test Positive For Steroids?

Angle, Edge, Benoit and Kane have probably used them. Angle and Kane's brows and baldness suggest so while both Angle and Benoit have veins popping out of their chest and are much heavier than they were when previously in top natural condition 6-10 years ago. Edge's wife suggested he used them. Cena's been a bodybuilding guy since his teens but it actually looks like he's dropped some muscle being on the road. Matt has his own gym in his home and doesn't look too ripped so I don't think he uses. Besides, with Jeff's problems he's probably deterred from them. Seems he shaves his chest though. Rey just looks like he has bulked up rather than jumped on the roids. Probably on on supplements but given his ring style using steroids wouldn't help at all. Big Show isn't on roids. He admitted he hates the gym and finds it hard to eat right on the road so I doubt he has the motivation or inclination to work out enough to warrant them.

    News story I'm doing....

http://www.bjj.org Lots of articles on the growth of free fighting in Brazil and the history of BJJ. http://www.judoinfo.org Has an article on judo vs BJJ/KImura vs Gracie floating around http://sfuk.tripod.com/articles_02/lanccw_1.html A bit on the history of catch wrestling. http://www.shootoamericas.com/history.shtml Shooto, the oldest Japanese MMA promotion going. http://www.UFC.tv Wikipedia may be worth checking out to see what others have compiled in their analyses. Also check out the documentaries Rites Of Passage, Choke and The Smashing Machine. Sherdog forums doesn't suck. If we did, we wouldn't have the sponsors we do. It's the majority of the posters that drags down the standard these days. Bloodyknux and UpstandingFuckingCitizens are where most older Sherdoggers have went following the influx of TUF fans.

"You will never see Frank Shamrock in the UFC again." His own words. Forrest better work his guard sweeps like crazy for Tito if that fight rolls around. I'd like to see a Babalu Tito fight. Babalu has equal if not better wrestling, he's just as strong and has fought at heavyweight, has fantastic sweeps, improving subs with a knack for setting them up inventively since he went to the Gracie Combat Team, decent GnP and decent kickboxing. It could be quite competitive but Tito probably doesn't consider him a big enough name and not worth the risk.

    UFC 56: Full Force

That reminds me... if you ever get the chance to see Takada/Cro Cop, don't. You will actually kill yourself. Napao disappointed me. His shots were terrible and aside from the fake leg kick followed by the jumping punch/elbow he looked awful. The guy needs to be locked away to train his stand up and wrestling hardcore as he was scared to engage, had his takedowns stuffed and stood up from and was not able to show his strengths at all. If he's not going to do that, throw him in with Marcio "Pe De Pano" Cruz so we can get a grappling war. It'd be interesting to see if the result would be different to their last notable clash at ADCC since strikes would be a factor.

    MMA FAQ

Eduardo Telles has trademarked the turtle guard in the same way Marcelo Garcia has trademarked the armdrag. It's basically attacking solely from having given your back. Some also refer to it as monk guard as it is more of a self defense position and also resembles a monk praying. Kneebars, kimura, sweeps and reversals are the bread and butter of this game. I hope to train with Telles in a couple of weeks while he is visiting London so hopefully he can help me out in this area a lot. Pinball guard is a cross between X guard and De La Riva guard from what I have seen, with your opponent semi squatting with one of your shins behind their respective knee and one foot on the hip to control distance. The foot on their hips can also be used on their quad to try stop kicks and stomps. Kneebars, calf crunches and sweeps are generally the only things I have seen obtained from this. Stephan Kesting is known for developing this. Spider guard is when you control your opponent's wrists and either use your shins or feet in their biceps to control their upper body. Omoplatas, armbars, kimuras, triangles and sweeps are what you will usually see from here.

    Eddie's autopsy report

HGH isn't a steroid, is virtually undetectable and can cause the symptoms other steroid users suffer do (back acne, short temper, mood swings) without the legal crap. Eddy was ripped in 98, everything he has put on since then was probably a tremendous strain on his frame. All you need to look at is HHH's forehead for proof that HGH isn't unheard of in the WWE. I believe Davey Boy Smith and Hawk are also unfortunate victims of this kind of death.
