I just thought this needed a bit of attention. There are a LOT of people writing about MMA nowadays who haven't got a clue when it comes to pretty much anything outside of the UFC and/or PRIDE, and sometimes even their knowledge of the Big Two is severely limited. A great example is James Hirth from Sherdog. The guy has been writing for the site for over 4 years now, and I shit you not, the guy is still fucking clueless. His comments on many fighters often seem based on nothing more than quick scan of SD's FightFinder, and even then he finds a way to misanalyze a guy's W/L record. Personally, I'd rather read write-ups by people with limited knowledge of MMA as long as they avoid the previously mentioned pitfall of trying to comment too much on things they haven't seen. Would I still critique the guy? Of course, but I'd try and do it in a way that promotes discussion or simply informs someone, rather than with the seething annoyance I spit at guys like Hirth. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll agree with you that some columnists on SD have more opinions than knowledge at their disposal, but Jeff chose them and since he runs the show, it's down to him if he considers it worth the front page. I don't read many of the coulmns myself, generally just the interviews and news. I prefer InsideFighting for columns although even they have some crappy writers too.

You didn't answer my question. You just seek to deride my as being a nit picker. Sorry I know the difference between techniques and the appropriate names for them. A lot of MMA fans despise pro wrestling. However due to TUF now more wrestling fans like MMA. They may share fans, but to say MMA appeals to the same fanbase is not true. A lot of MMA fans don't know for care for Takada's previous wrestling history which led to PRIDE. If anything MMA appeals more to the same fanbase as other combat sports like kickboxing, sub grappling and boxing which is why K-1 runs both MMA and kickboxing shows and boxers like Tyson and Roy Jones Jr go to UFC. Rogan may also be cookie cutter at times, but if he notes something in his commentary generally he will ask the fighter about it also ("You looked in trouble there when he had the choke, how did you come back like that?). Pro wrestling and MMA became connected due to Satoru Sayama. Brazilian Vale Tudo fights had been going on for decades before Shooto came about. Hey Dames, it's good to hear you are getting into MMA. It's people like yourself that are going to ensure the future of the sport so eventually fighters are paid and treated the way they deserve to be. I would have preferred for you to have replied for yourself but I guess some people thought you shouldn't have to and spoke for you. Paragon of Virtue, I've trained at a few places. When I was younger I used to train judo under Brian Jacks but left after a rumour got around he hit his wife and my parents stopped me from going. I went back a couple of years later but didn't feel comfortable there and didn't like his teaching style. A few months after that I started training at Pancrase London with Jess Liaudin and a sambo guy called Paul who's last name I can't recall mainly due to the fact he didn't teach the classes much. After I moved house I started training at Ze Marcello Jiu Jitsu Club, now BTT London, at the Tokei Gym in London Bridge under Ronaldo Campos who is now over at BTT Boston and Eduardo Careillos. I then went to train under Roberto Atalla at Rio Grappling Club in the basement gym of the SOAS building of the University of London. Roberto was the guy that gave me my blue belt. In the last three years I have also trained with Leo Negao, Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros, Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, Murilo Rupp, Ze Marcello, "Minotauro" Nogueira, Carlson Gracie Sr, Carlos Gracie Jr, Jean Silva, Roger Gracie, Braulio Estima, Mario Reis and Fabricio Werdum. I have photos of myself with Jean Silva, Reis, Werdum, Rupp, Carlson, Carlos and Leo but not with Shaolin, Roger, Braulio, "Comprido" and Nog because the webspace I had them on expired as my credit card expired and I didn't renew it due to a whole Paypal problem that's not worth explaining. Add to that my comp crashed last year which wiped them out on my hard drive. I was pretty pissed at the time as I lost my photos with Pele, Jeremy Horn and Renzo also, however I do have an Extreme Force program signed by both Horn and Jason Black, a print out of the Renzo photo and the cover of Gracie Magazine with Nog armbarring Coleman signed by "Minotauro". I currently train at BTT London and Rio Grappling Club, although now Roberto is gone the classes are generally just a few of us turning up to practice and spar ourselves. Roberto left Luiz Tosta to run things however since Luiz now trains mainly at London Shootfighters another purple belt Pastel usually does the majority of classes. I am trying to arrange UK seminars for Andre Galvao, Dean Lister and David Jacobs in the coming months for my kickboxing club Fei Lung M.A.S. I also try to get to the wrestling classes Fridays at the Pavillion in Bromley, Kent to improve my takedowns. I've been to Holland to visit family the last two years running and on one trip went to an Ernesto Hoost seminar at the Vos Gym. Also got to meet Ilonka Ilmont and Alistair Overeem which was nice. Next rtime I want to try get to Breda to go meet Cor Hemmers. LOTC, fuck off.

He will end up released before too long much like Marty Janetty.

I have been training in BJJ/sub grappling for 3 years now and in my experience a triangle and figure four are not the same thing. A triangle is generally a reference to the choke, a body triangle is the same leg positioning applied to the waist. The only times I have heard a figure four referenced in grappling is in regards to the arm position setting up a kimura on a few Bas Rutten instructionals and some early smaller MMA shows. If you have any fights, shows or instructionals where the body triangle or triangle choke has been referred to as a figure four I'd be interested in digging them up. The UFC is a sport that wants to be taken seriously. WWE is sports entertainment which is near impossible to be taken seriously. It's not a valid comparison in my estimation. My girlfriend wanted to kick the TV when watching UFC with me when Kerri kept saying the exact same thing to every single fighter. She maybe be hot but after the exact same "so how do you feel?" "talk us through this" four times in a row even I was like "For fucks sake, ask something else!" I really don't care about Dames leaving the site or not so that has no bearing on my reply. The guy has been on past boards I've modded and vice versa so I really don't view him in a different light simply because of his admin status. Mike's pretty much been running the show for a while anyway, the site was even taken over by Mike previously only for Dames to ask his way back a few months ago after an extended absence. The only difference now is he is now going on his own terms rather than having his position taken off him while he's gone. I have no malice towards the guy buy I do think trying to compare sports entertainment to an entertaining sport is tenuous at best and as such chose to reply with my own opinion.

10 years?!?!? What kind of moron signs a contract with a 10 YEAR no compete clause. God that's just moronic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think technically it is now 8 years because he signed the contract in 2003. He's got no money (even had to sell his custom bike on Ebay), no source of income and apparently Rena Mero hasn't enjoyed having to support him and their relationship has became strained as a result. I'm not entirely sure if they are actually still together (their wedding was postponed last I heard). But given Brock's repentant attitude, his lack of money to fund the case and the fact should he lose (which he probably would given he did sign the contract; if he and his lawyer didn't read the fine print at the time then that's really on them) he'll have to cover both his and WWE's costs... I really doubt he has actually turned his back on them yet again.

What if the WWE was to relocate a brand to the UK?
cameron chaos replied to Ultra Violence's topic in The WWE Folder
They didn't even sell out both nights at their last TV tapings over here (Raw was sold out, Smackdown still had seats available the day of the show) so a long term stay here wouldn't work. I thought they were better off a few years back when they came over once a year for a UK PPV/glorified TV show and a few house shows. Those would always sell out. Now with their more frequent trips a lot of the appeal of going to the shows has worn off. -
I'm assuming your girlfriend is hot as hell then. Pics? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What's that got to do w/ Porter not finding Jillian attractive? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I assume he thinks that unless I can do better than her, I have no right to find her ugly... *shrugs* <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not quite. You have the right to your opinion but she's not exactly ugly to begin with. Maybe not your cup of tea but she's not exactly in the truly ugly league of say or even I mean, I can understand you saying she's not attractive, but ugly is a bit much.

What the fuck is a figure four of death? You mean the body triangle spinelock? Why exactly would they bury anyone? They have no reason to. Dana White does have problems with Frank Shamrock and BJ Penn currently, but those are professional and even then Dana doesn't wish them any misfortune. In the UFC they try to get quality fighters to face each other for belts that actually mean something because you actually compete for real to obtain one. They are trying to use these competitors so that the audience will get behind them based on their performance and in the future buy PPVs where there favourite fighters compete, making UFC money and raising their other fighters profiles at the same time by exposing fans to other fighters on the same cards. If they even tried to give someone a "gimmick" it wouldn't work because the fighter could always turn around and say "I'm paid to fight, not dress like an Arab". Besides, most of the guys are characters anyway (Arlovski, Sudo, "Mayhem" Miller, Trigg, Riggs, Leben just to name a few). The UFC is an actual sport whereas WWE is not. Trying to compare them in terms of their promotional tactics is pointless since one is real while the other is entertainment that has the pretence of being real. Dude, that wasn't booked. Why do you refer to it as a finish and what exactly do you want to name it for? Why not just call it a sloppy armbar? Your use of wrestling terms in relation to a real sport is pretty geeky. Everybody look for an acquaintance of mine, Shannon Knapp, this weekend as she'll be doing the post fight interviews for Ultimate Fight Night. She's a step up from Kerri "So how do you feel?" Kasem.

No. Not at all. Cena has had millions of dollars spent on him to try market him as an all round superstar than can rap, wrestle and act. He makes them millions in merchandise in return. He is more over than ever and marketable to wiggas, kids, the new breed of slut teenage girls that pretend to be black and hard done by but wouldn't actually really want to be... he's a golden egg right now amongst a lot of goose shit. Jericho is the record holder for IC title wins. He is second tier in many eyes and had his one chance at success pissed on by Booker T run ins to help him win, picking up dog shit and being a world champion that runs around getting fucking lotion for the boss's daughter. He is born to runner up.

She had the surgery to go from this to this And then they go an put a fucking crackerjack on the side of her face? If I were her and I paid thousands to dramatically have my looks altered in the hope I'd be more appealing and receive a spot on TV, worked my ass off for years for shit money just dreaming and hoping and then they went and pissed on all my efforts by glueing a fucking crackerjack to my face... someone would die. If only Jilian Hall had killed Stephanie in a rage fuelled cat fight when this gimmick was brought to her...

As I said, I stopped watching regularly a while ago however the monotony of hearing week in week out "Batista can't beat me" when he had twice in a row... for fucks sake, the facts speak for themselves, at least go the "I used the first two matches to test his limits... now I know what he can do and while Batista has the brawn, I have the brains and have a gameplan through experience to beat him" or something a little different. It was hard to figure out who he was actually try to convince that the angle had life left in it. Metr0man, I often note your posts since they are often stick out amongst a sea of drones, much like Rudo or HTQ's posts. However you seem more on the level and appear to put less weight into your internet opinion, although 90% of the time I find myself agreeing with what you have said and as a result actually post less since you say what I want to most of the time. Feel free to drop by either board I mod at, you won't be banned but may be baffled at times. Nice avatar, by the way. Warren Ellis's Metropolis was black comedy gold.

> I prefer the more rounded central medal. If anything the attitude era belt just looks like the Eagle belt mk. II. Also I think the eagle looks better sitting on top of the globe rather than with it's wings framing the globe.

I stopped watching regularly a couple of years ago, I stopped watching at all during the run up to Batista vs HHH's Hell In A Cell. I like watching wrestling, what I don't enjoy are uninteresting overly long storylines, illogical angles done in poor taste and having my intelligence insulted. WWE doesn't even attempt to recognise recent history at times (Edge beat the shit out of Christian then 2 weeks later they are tag partners and all is forgotten). I still get matches if I have heard good about them but it's clear WWE are half arsing it so why should I watch a show that doesn't even attempt to maintain quality or continuity?

Pray Shawn Superkicks Hogan to HELL!
cameron chaos replied to Shanghai Kid's topic in The WWE Folder
Bullshit. Vince isn't stupid. He saw what happened to creative control clauses with Bret and WCW. -
Shit, put him in a turban and teach him the suicide dive on top of it. That's money. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Muslims don't wear turbans. Sikhs do. I'm curious if he'll have to "pay his dues" upon returning or get put back on top. If he goes straight to the top again I could see a lot of wrestlers resenting that kind of preferential treatment.

Both of them are worth millions already and make money off the artists they have brought in (D12, G-Unit, Obie Trice and Memphis Bleek, Freeway, Beanie Siegel, Kanye West) and their sales, as well as money earnt on their own back catalogues, from their clothing and shoe lines, posters, all sorts. I doubt either will want or need money ever again. The only reason for either to rap anymore is because they want to and it's clear neither does save guest appearances on tracks to get their new signings over with their own old fanbases.

The fuck? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> USWA booking. He also saddled Glen Jacobs with the title of the Unabomber.

To be fair, if Edge hadn't worn down Lita on the road leading to her cheating on Matt, none of this would be happening. However if Edge's wife had been a bit more attentive and canny regarding her man, he'd not have strayed. I think we all need to thank Lisa Copeland's negligence for this storyline.

Nope, and I bet Vince is loving every minute of media exposure he is getting out of it. Sure, he had his spokesman Gary Davis put out his little blurb about it, but behind closed doors he has got to be loving the press. The carny in him is probably thinking "Any press is good press... ON with the show". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Considering past tasteless angles (Big Show dad/Bossman, Al Snow/Bossman, HHH/Katie Vick, Kane/Lita, Vince/Trish) and incidents (Owen's death, Mae Young exposing herself at the Royal Rumble) that have not been apologised for, I'm leaning towards you being spot on. What's sad is that he may have that mindset.

Were you also as pissed off when a train blew up in Batman Begins? Because's that's a lot closer to home in respect to yesterday's events rather then what happened on Smackdown. And well, that's not just to you specifically, but in general. Because you might not have even seen the movie, just making a point. People aren't worked up over that. And just because it happened before the events shouldn't make any difference..this happened before too technically. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Running a terrorist angle on the fucking 4th of July is bad taste, keeping the skit in and airing the day London gets bombed is fucking out of the ball park of bad taste. Comparing a film based in a fictional city where a guy in a Bat costume save the day so trains don't ruin the city while a power mad environmentalist tries to turn the world into the Amazon to running an angle that mimics terrorist attacks and torture on the same day of an actual terrorist attack is a little tenuous. The fact you are trying to compare a movie based on a comic book to a real life event is even more so. Christian Bale doesn't pretend to be Batman day to day, but Mark Magnus does and blurs the lines. I acknowledge it is intended to be entertainment, but the fact they use faux terrorism for entertainment value is pretty fucking bad.
-
Keeping the segment on the program rather than editing it out, even with the advisory warnings, is fucking insensitive. One minute their supporting the troops, next they are trivialising terrorism for cheap heat. Anyone excusing their actions is fucking stupid. If you can not can realise why it's fucked up having someone attacked by terrorists on TV on the same day hundreds are injured and dozens are killed by a terrorist attack, you really need to get a fucking clue. Wrestling is meant to be escapism, a medium we watch where we can live vicariously through our favourite characters. It shouldn't be a social commentary featuring men in skimasks gathering and imitating beheading videos for a few boos. A friend of mine is in hospital right now due to the terrorist attack, that's not fucking television. I don't find it funny when what she experienced is being made light of for entertainment purposes. It's not just television, it's real life being trivialised on television by insensitive pricks for jaded apologists like yourself.

Finally! Kurt Angle DVD announced...
cameron chaos replied to pochorenella's topic in The WWE Folder
Considering the guy has a screwed up neck, back, and limited strength in both arms due to nerve damage I don't see him going for too many years more so I agree it would be best to put together a comprehensive career retrospective rather than one now, especially if they try kayfabe it like they did on his first video. I think he'd be more likely to open up and be honest after his work, in both senses, was done. Commentary tracks of how matches were laid out by Angle would definitely be interesting to me. -
I'm pretty sure Vince would sing it from the rooftops if he wasn't so busy rubbing his hands together and repeating to himself "I knew he'd come back... they all come back sooner or later."

When was this? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Juvi Driver, Nail In The Coffin, Michinoku Driver, Rikishi Driver, Balls Mahoney's version...
