The centerpiece of your fantasy team? Let me guess... it's been a rough year. HA! Well he was my first pitcher chosen, and I pretty much forgot to add a pen after drafting a couple of middle relievers. I do have a kicking offense though. Essentially I'm the (insert your favorite late 90s early 00s team that went heavy into offense but not so much with the pitching) of that league.

Its possible Rock had his "...drink a tall glass of SHUT UP JUICE!" catchphrase used as a attack on Juvi's gimmick.
-
Speaking of back injuries, Randy Johnson is going on for the second time this year. Nice, the centerpiece of my freaking fantasy team goes back on the DL. All because I paid too much attention to a dopey NYC radio host blather about how he was still very much a "CY Young Contender" in each of his Yankee seasons and how that would translate (based on Clemens' 04 and 05) into a Vintage Big Unit season when he returned to the NL this year. Hell I even thought there was a GREAT shot of Johnson getting his 300th win this season as he had exactly 20 more to go before the season started. To quote Kurt Angle, "Flipping great."

There was one on adultery. -
Oliver Perez though, is heading to the DL Jason Vargas is up and is in Colorado tonight! Well, hopefully I will not be doing that tonight (looking right AT you Tommy Boy, or as members of another board would say, Tammy Tampax)
-
Nope, he is very much in today's lineup and is starting at 3rd. BY GAWD WHAT AN INSPIRATIONAL MOMENT FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES! ALEX RODRIGUEZ IS COMING BACK AND PLAYING ONE DAY AFTER A HORRIFIC HAMSTRING INJURY! WHAT A HOSS! Sorry, just had to go into Jim Ross mode there, was thinking of Suzyn Waldman, but hey this is a wrestling board! I guess it wasn't as bad as it was feared then, though I would have made ARod sit out at least through the weekend to be on the safe side but hey, I'm not a big league trainer and the Yanks actually have one of the best in Gene Monahan.

Hey Hulkster, remind you of anyone in particular? I don't know, someone still trying to live off the Hogan name and living the "Hollywood" gimmick? Not saying Hogan isn't comfortable being an aging biker and that its not a reflection of his real life persona but I hope he realizes this is a pot calling the kettle black moment! -
Okay, my count is as of 7/2/07 there are 212 different persons to hold at least one of the recongized tag belts on WWWF/WWF/WWE programing WWWF US Tag from 1957-1967 which was abandoned due to then champ Bruno Sammartino winning the Heavyweight belt WWWF International Tag from 1969-1971 except for a run by Tatsymi Fujinami & Kengo Kimura in 1985 who beat Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis for the title as part of New Japan's partnership with the WWF WWWF/WWF/WWE World Title that we all know and love since 1971 The Smackdown! Tag belts The WCW tag belts starting with Natural Born Thrillerz (Chuck Palumbo/Sean O'Haire) reign untill the Unification match at Survivor Series The NWA World Tag that changed hands twice on WWF TV as part of Jim Cornette's NWA angle which featured The Rock & Roll Express losing it to the Headbangers who then dropped it to Bob Holly and Bart Gunn as the "New Rock & Roll Express" Title was abandoned when the angle was dropped. I thought Carlito was on Smackdown? -
Right forgot about X-Pac because, well X-Pac sucks! Ehem... FWIW Sparky Plugg actually is listed in the aforementioned site as "Bob Holly" interestingly enough wrestling-titles.com
-
There ya go. And I think its even in Kayfabe that its the same 'Kishi right? Thanks.

Fun hobby I was constructing while in college, picked it up here and there, just realized that I hadn't updated the tag team titles since 2001. Basically just seeing who has been the most honored wrestlers in the WWF/WWE and such. Hence the gimmicks questions since generally the title history sites I cross reference just list the gimmick name, not the wrestler's given name or common name if it is the same guy, i.e. Mick Foley is listed as his various character names, not "Mick Foley"
-
So did the Hardys, no I'm not counting either because they were revealed rather quickly Also despite Billy Gunn using a different gimmick, he still used the "Billy Gunn" name in the three different Tag Title winning gimmicks actually Smoking Gunns DX/New Age Outlaws (granted he was an NAO before DX) Half of the Ambigously Gay "Oh we really aren't gay its all an act" Duo with Chuck Palumbo He also won the KOR as the Assman Billy Gunn (King Ass) and the IC as "The One" Billy Gunn (What the HELL was that anyway? A rip on Luger's "The Total Package" or something?) Re-tooling a character is one thing (Ringmaster/Stone Cold, Rocky/Rock, Helmsley/Triple H), changing how you look and act is another (Sting, JBL), but what Billy Gunn went through is downright crazy.

I may bring it as reading material when I go to Chicago in a few weeks. Should be a quick read on the plane.

Probably shows you how little the players follow the game they are playing as Fuentes, along with Hamels, Hoffman, Peavy, Penny, Sheets and Cordero were player choices, I wonder if Willie Randolph did put a little pressure on LaRussa not to take any Met starters if they weren't chosen in the player voting.

WWE General Discussion for June 2007
Steve J. Rogers replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Did Ron Simmons and JBL ever have a match after Simmons returned recently? Seems like they need a "blowoff" with Simmons going over for his "firing" and JBL "turning his back on him." Or at least I'd book that, as a one week TV match, I wouldn't waste too much time with it. -

Yeah I see the point, I was just doing a stream of conscience rant, and no I'm not suggesting being paranoid and suspicious of everyone, Lord knows I'm kind of a "keeps to himself" kind of guy. I just find it funny how you always see those kind of quotes in every story about serial killers or even about some domestic violence cases. I guess its more of a "how does this add to the story" kind of thing and a smack on people saying "How could Benoit do this, he seemed like a swell guy off of TV/WWE storyline stuff" which is more of an emotional statement than anything. I mean look at OJ for example, everything O.J. Simpson did in public would suggest that he would be the last person to brutally hack his wife and a complete stranger to death. -
I thought about that as well. But then again they now have Festus, granted its a slow Lenny/Sling Blade type of character rather than mental retardation so maybe Eugene isn't transforming into Nick Dismore anytime soon.
-
Who is Festus? Was that a vignette, cause I didn't see any vignette in my rls of SD? Just before returning they had a bit of two wrestlers announcing their arrival on Smackdown. Festus bascially had a Lenny from Of Mice & Men thing going (sans the talk about rabbits and living off of the fat of the land) just a slow, mute fellow, essentially Kane as he was first introduced.

I thought Chris Jericho was the Wrestling Conspiracy Victim? "http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=194116171&blogID=281625909" I'm not sure who I'm hating more at this time, Chris Benoit, or guys like this blogger and those in the comments section who are trying to make this into some sort of government/New World Order conspiracy. Thats the NWO, not the Wrestling one, and FWIW shocking that the blogger tries to make a correlation between the two as well as the Bible placing and the Biblical Four Horsemen of The Apocolypse. I mean the only correlation between the latter is that it was just a catchy phrase Arn Anderson used in a promo about him, Ole, Tully and Ric. There was never any religous or cultist things going on with ANY Horsemen angle. You know, I was in a journalism class the week after the VT tragedy and a discussion came up about whether NBC should have reported the killer's images and what was in his manifesto. I argued that it was appropriate because that way everyone would see exactly who did this, why he did it, what kind of frame of mind he was in, ect. Basically to nip conspiracy theorists in the bud. Of course there will always be people on the fringe, like this guy and Benoit but still. And I'm still find it funny that comments are still being made in the same vein as neighboors of serial killers. WAKE UP, WAKE THE HELL UP! Shouldn't you know by know that it is usually the quiet types that do this kind of stuff? That brash, loud mouth punk gets in trouble because he's doing things in less methodical and more haphazzard fashion not in a carefully planned way. And yeah, watching years of matches and sit-down interviews (as opposed to promos), reading magazine articles and maybe meeting at an autograph session or something all of a sudden makes someone "the last person you'd expect to do something like this." PLEASE, PLEASE stop acting like such marks! In fact, its belief in such notions that give real marks a bad name. Also the guy thinks taking down Benoit from all parts of WWE.com and the Shopzone is a strange and unusal thing, gee I must of missed it where Andre The Giant, Big John Studd, Eddie Guerrero, Mr. Perfect and the other dead wrestlers with merchandise still in The Zone get accused of murdering ANYONE. I can see saying "Why are they still "honoring" a coke head like Henning or whatever the hell Guerrero put in his body through the years and not Benoit" (I can see it, I'm not saying its a right but there is logic in that line of questioning) but Benoit is officially a "DOUBLE FREAKING MURDERER of a woman and a FREAKING 7 YEAR OLD CHILD" and the WWE has every right as a privately owned enity (yeah they have stockholders but still) to sell whatever merchandise they want and to pull whatever merchandise they want. -

Pillman and Russ Haas (Charlies Brother, they were in the minors at the time of his death in 2001) I was just thinking about it, Benoit is now just the second Horseman to die after Pillman. not exactly a feat anyone would want to accomplish Third after Curt Henning Fifth if you want to count Miss Elizabeth and Woman. -

Greta van Sustran on FOX Yeah, she was horrible, they just had Bret Hart on as well -
Anyone know where I can find some images of the WWWF's events at Shea Stadium? I'm especially looking for the Hogan-Andre cage match, its on the Hulk Still Rules DVD so maybe anyone have any screen captures? Shea Stadium isn't long for this world BTW, it has about one and a half years before they tear it down. Ah well, the new Mets baseball stadium, Citi Field looks like it will be a great place though.

Steve J. Rogers replied to Human Fly's topic in The WWE Folder
Here is a question, how do you handle telling a young wrestling fan, wheither they are a fan of Benoit or not, why Chris Benoit is no longer mentioned on WWE programming? Can't just say "Yeah, he died" since there are many wrestlers who have died yet are still mentioned and still enjoy merchandise being put out with their likeness on them. BTW, the reason the NFL still mentions OJ, still "celebrates" his accomplishments and such is the same reason (and no I'm not comparing) Barry Bonds' chase for Hank Aaron is still on. Same reason the numbers are not being rolled back or asterisks are being put in the record book (which BTW, is an urban legend with Maris' 61 but thats a whole other story) and the reason why no one is rushing to give back Jose Canseco's and Jason Giambi's MVP trophies. The WWE is essentially still a privately owned company, they can do whatever the hell they want with Benoit's name and likeness. The NFL, MLB and such is not. While Ralph Wilson, owner of the Bills can one day say "Take down OJ Simpson from the Wall of Fame and put #32 back in circulation" the NFL can not simply erase OJ from the history books. Hell even Pete Rose can't even be erased from the baseball history books even if Rose is unable to attend games and participate in functions. Plus as I said up thread somewhere around page 40 the unions (well maybe the NFL won't care in light of recent battles between retired players and the NFL Players Union) would be all up in arms about something like that, or at the very least if something like Benoit happened lawyers for the estate would defend the right of the surviving family members the right to keep the merchandise royaltiy income flowing.
