Morgan seems like a "My era was better" kind of guy probably, and could be that Sandberg supplanted him rather quickly as "Possible Best NL 2Bman Next To Rogers Hornsby Of All Time" Steve

Oh GOD! So how convultued is Super Mario going to make the contract so that its so backloaded that its 20 years and not 15 years untill he becomes a member of the ATM on Skates? True, that does rank as a "Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make" Course that was before the "Sign anyone with a name for riddculous amounts of money" time period. Though I think we did have a better offer on the table, and who really knows... Yeah but if they were making the playoffs, or were in contention for the playoffs, then the Rangers would "matter" But the point I'm trying to make is that the NHL and the Rangers (and by the same token the Habs, Leafs, Bruins, Hawks, and Red Wings) need to be doing well for the other to really be successfull Probably. And good, since there are teams who haven't won in longer. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didn't say we NEED another Cup celebration at the Garden for the NHL to come back, that was me being exasperated with the last 10 seasons of complete inepetude and imcompetence since winning our first Cup in 54 years Yeah I know those chants are coming. Nine-Teen-Nine-ty-FOUR! I need some beers.... -

Well at least find a way to get the Rangers in the top TEN of the draft order. In a normal year 15 is an early exit from the playoff's slot, and we know the Rangers haven't done shit in that department for 8 years now -
Also Rome has built up a rep on talking general sports All the general public (except those listening to his radio show 12-2 on 1050am ESPN Radio in New York) knows about Steven A. Smith is that he's an NBA analyst

10 TV Cliches That Should Be BANNED
Steve J. Rogers replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
Just saw another bad cliche that is annoying on an old Everybody Loves Raymond Basically Person A (generally the star of the show) is talking to Person B (usually a non-cast member) and is trying to talk in code or tries to give signals to Person B to intimate that he/she is being secretive or just plain trying to give Person B a message without coming out and saying it. So of COURSE Person B is completely oblivious and comes off looking not to mentally capable if the audience can pick up on the clear clues (even if you didn't see the previous scene explaining why Person A needs to be secretive or is trying to give non-verbal clues to Person B) and of course if Person A is trying to give a message about someone else before Person C who Person A doesn't want to know whats going on, invaribly because Person B failed to pick up any of the clues, Person C finds out in an embarassing way Steve -
The One And Only Fantastic Four Thread...
Steve J. Rogers replied to Jonathon's topic in Television & Film
What I said was, Blade is part of the current era of comic book adaptations being dark, gritty, character driven and more adult themed than past genre films (fantasy/sci-fi) which lulled reviewers, and fans to expect every comic adaptation from here on out to be more darker, more adult themed and not at all for children and not at all the fun excapeism that the FF comics personified I wasn't saying they were particullary good or bad movies, I was listing a bunch of recent comic book adaptations that fit the "adulturation" of comic book movies Steve -
Geez, even though I hate the BootyBarberZodiacDizzyEdBoulderManWithNoFace, that's a bit harsh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Guy probably thought it was all part of a too over the top work

The One And Only Fantastic Four Thread...
Steve J. Rogers replied to Jonathon's topic in Television & Film
I think the reviewers have been spoiled through the years. With the X-Men, the new edition of Batman, DareDevil, Blade, Sin City, Star Wars, and even Spidey to an extent Instead of the camp, family-friendley fare that stigmatized the genre, sci-fi and comic films have been busting out darker, grittier, more adult-oreinted (in the sense of you don't want to have a 5-10 year old watch the films, not in the porno sense) films and now there is Fantasitc Four... So with expectations of the genre being in a place that was more for mature audiences, a movie that is more along the lines of the Brady Bunch remake a few years back (not in the parody sense, but in the same bouncy, carefree sense) comes along and reviewers see it as a regression rather than looking at it as its own movie Steve -

I don't see them breaking down the door to get promos on Indy 500 either or NASCAR or which other racing sport has its big race winner down a bottle of milk And last I checked beer companies are major advertizers in this country, and all over the world. Dairy Councill is a small patch on their fanny in terms of size and scope Oh don't get me wrong, "Got Milk?" has become a phoenomon and even has its name on the NBA Rookie of The Year Award, but it is nothing in terms of the scope and size of the beer industries advertizing revenue streams
-
This confuses me. I've been to events in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, and Seattle and I've never once seen them sell beer to the crowd and I've only ever seen one person visibly drunk. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh? I'm sorry I guess I thought they'd sell beer in all arenas. I've seen beer sold at college basketball games in Bridgeport, CT! And MSG here in New York Maybe it depends on the actual venue Is there a WWE policy or something? Must be recent probably
-
Steve Austin and the APA are on WWE programming? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Geez, you know what I meant. I haven't watched regularly in quite a while to know if anyone is carying the beer guzzling torch. And Austin has made frequent cameo apperances using his beer guzzling gimmick through the last few years, and several alcohol related Austin clips (especially the beer truck hoseing of Vince, Shane and Rocky from 98) often get viewed as "All Time Classic moments"
-
Car care products (Castrol), and transportation companies (Greyhound) have spots on WWE programming. Maybe its also part of the demo the WWE is trying to reach (15-30 males) isn't going to be running out to buy the new, fresh off the line models and are more interested in maintaining their current vehicle and/or other modes of transportation I'm more curious as to the alcohol related ads though. There are no beer/liqour ads on WWE shows (which can be considered a "sporting event" ) despite Steve Austin and the APA being virtual advertizers for beer virtually every segment or match. Not to mention beer is quite clearly seen at every event during crowd shots Also I'd love just ONCE the truth.com or antidrug.com or any of the other anti-tobacco, anti-dope, ect comanies to step up to the big plate and run an anti-alcohol ad (I'm not counting actual anti-alcohol ads from MADD or SADD, well plus thats more against driving under the influence more than actual consumption of alcohol) Granted its not an illegal drug of course, but the target demos those ads are supposed to reach for the most part can NOT drink alcohol. In other words, put an ad saying why you have to drink "responsable" or just list the horrors of alcohol abuse, ect Steve

Anyone with Netscape and Mozzila having the same problem I've been having with MSN's Hotmail? Just doesn't seem to want to log in Steve

1) Darko did get on the cover of ESPN The Mag hyping him as being on the same level with LeBron and Melo, so ESPN bashing the pick is abit hypocritical 2) Brown at the time said it was going to be a long time before he'd pay dividends for the Pistons, so I think they have a "plan" for the Darko project

Listening to the NYC ESPN sports radio station and the local 20/20 update guy this morning has been mentioning the fact that Brendan Donnelly is appealing his suspension. Nothing wrong with that? Well I guess the report that he ripped it from says “LA reliever Brendan Donnelly” because he kept calling him “Dodger reliever Brendan Donnelly.” And this is for about 8 or so updates this morning. Now what makes this funnier, after the first time I heard the faux pas, the host and a caller talked about the incident and made reference to the Angels and Mike Scioscia. So apparently the update guy doesn’t listen to the show that he is doing updates for! I think it was the same guy, but same station a few months back mentioned the story about the guy persecuted for sending threatening emails to the Phillies or something like that. Well I guess the AP story or wherever they ripped the story from referred to the guy as a “fanatic” or probably used the pun “phanatic” in the title because the update guy kept calling the guy “The Phillie Phanatic, or the guy in the costume.” Come to think about it, that changes that story entirely. Instead of an obsessed fan hacking into the Philadelphia Inquirer email system or whatever he did, it becomes the Phillies getting an employee jailed just for sending emails disparaging the Phillies management. Of course neither faux pas was ever corrected.

10 TV Cliches That Should Be BANNED
Steve J. Rogers replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
As stated above Shameless Cross Promotion NBC is its Must See TV heyday was the king of this, even going as far back as Norm and Cliff showing up in Wings' airport No real rhime or reason for the crossover as the shows aren't considered official spinoffs or anything, just a way of saying "Hey thats that guy from that show playing the character from that show" Probably the worse ones are when the actors crossing over aren't portraying the actual characters from their normal shows. Couple of good examples: On Friends' first season, (also ER's first season) George Clooney and Noah Whyle guest starred as, yup, doctors. Though since Friends is in New York and ER is in Chicago they weren't "Doug Ross" and "John Carter" Wayne Knight would become a reaccuring character on Third Rock From The Sun as Sally's boyfriend Don, well in promotion of "Don's" first few apperances the NBC's promo staff promoed it as a "Newman" apperance as if Knight had taken his Seinfeld character to Third Rock, and sometimes it would be promoted as "guest starring Wayne "Newman" Knight" Actually a whole new thread could be made of "next week" promos and other comercials for upcoming programs cliches Steve -

Steve J. Rogers replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
Not to sound geekish, but Ursula was done in order to do a shameless crossover with Mad About You (an even worse cliche in my book) Also it was done to justify Lisa Kudrow still reprising the Ursula role on Mad About You in case Friends flopped. I also don't think it was ever abused in a wacky way that other cliches are, usually the Ursula bit would be just one or two scenes. Russ was thankfully an one episode thing Steve -
Big difference, that was for commentators, this is for those giving the news

Bonds, ARod and all things Yankees may be hated, but here is a story about how much one Red Sox fan hated Reggie Jackson My uncle, huge Red Sox fan was watching Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS. Well, right as Dave Henderson came up to hit the homer off of Donnie Moore, the cameras spotted Reggie Jackson putting his arm around Gene Mauch's shoulder, and to my uncle. that was pure "Look at me" Reggie. Basically Reggie couldn't give a rats behind about Gene Mauch before or after and here he is being all "You are finally going to the World Series because I am on this team" So from that point he knew that the Sox would win the Series, because Reggie just put a jinx on Mauch and the Angels Course my uncle got Bill Buckner and Donnie Moore confused when remebering who wound up killing themselves but thats another story... How much one guy can hate Reggie Jackson
Steve J. Rogers replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in Sports
Just a story about Reggie Jackson hating as compared to Bonds/ARod hate today A guy hates Reggie so much that he thought Reggie putting his arm around someone's shoulder was an "All about me" moment and saw that as the reason why the Sox would eventually win the series Uh, you guys are well aware that Reggie Jackson was the Barry Bonds of the 70's and 80's right? In terms of being the most hated player in baseball Steve -

Not to mention no rime or reason for the hodgepodge selections And the majority of stuff is readily avaliable on both VHS and DVD -
Lets get the topic started... And lets officially welcome James Marsters as "Spike" and there may be more Buffyverse apperances... Also lets welcome back Joss Wheedon on a more regular basis! Could be the last year on WB, or the last year period. Who knows, but thats a topic for winter of 04 Steve
