One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread
Steve J. Rogers replied to Black Lushus's topic in Television & Film
Most underated has to be Luke vs. Rancor. Squash yes, but it builds how much stronger and smarter Luke is by this point, consider how long it took to dispatch a Wampa for crying out loud! He almost jobbed, but pulled the "out of no where" finish after taking forever to figure out how to set up the force spot! BTW, TECHNICALLY you have to include the back-stage scrape with "Vader" and Luke in ESB on Dagobah, a squash by Luke but very psychological on the part of "The Force" -

Dud of all time is Han v Greedo version II Give me version with Han squashing Greedo any day, I mean Han COMPLETELY NO SELLS Greedo's first shot in the second version! Bobba Fett vs Sarlac on screen was a major letdown, but apparantly they pull a Benoit-Regal from the Pillman show in the books -
I've seen some spoilers, but still I am wondering if these loose ends will be tied up in Episode III -How Obi Wan comes to being called "Ben" -Does Padme die or does she go to Alderan with Bail Organa -Why the Lars deemed it that Luke grows up with the "Skywalker" name Any others that people are hoping to see Steve

Ahhh this one IS rated PG-13 From the looks of it, it was a spoof thing, probably not marketed to kids anyway. So there lies the point, not every movie that looks like a kids movie IS A KIDS MOVIE! Of course never mind all the ROTS toys that have and are about to hit the market Steve

The History of the Horsemen
Steve J. Rogers replied to Team Angle Pusher's topic in General Wrestling
Wonder how close HHH ever got to calling Evolution "Four Horsemen" I wonder if he even did consider using the name exactly who said "Uh NO!" Probably Flair himself if the idea never made it on air Steve -
I dunno -- I was six years old at the time. But that was then, this is now. When I worked at the theater, some old people came out of "Toy Soldiers" or whatever it was called with their grandkid (I'm assuming) and started bitching to us because it was such a violent movie and this was their kid's first trip to the theater. I had the nerve to ask them why they would bring a little kid into a PG-13 film for his first movie-going experience. That didn't go over well... Why on earth would you bring a kid to This flick? Why because that kid from The Goonies (Sean Astin) and Wes Crusher (Will Wheaton "Crusher" being his role in Star Trek: The Next Generation) are in it? Never seen it but I would assume the subject matter is something little ones can't even comprehend let alone serve as a "babysitter" Geez, people have to use their own judgement and LEARN ABOUT THE FILM YOU ARE TAKING YOUR LITTE ONE TO BEFORE TAKING HIM/HER TO IT! If you want to get TECHNICAL about it, Mick Foley retired the "Cactus Jack" character that night at No Way Out as every single apperance wrestling since has been as "Mick Foley" not Cactus, not Dude Love and not Mankind, so in affect he did keep that retirement promise By the way, both Dude and Mankind had interesting final apperances, Dude's costume gets burned, and Mick throws off the mask, and rips the shirt and tie off to reveal a Cactus Jack shirt Steve

To Flair about 8 years to return, I think that might be a record in terms of leaving a promotion via "Loser Leaves Town" and the eventual return Ironically Mr Perfect returned a month later but the two never appeared on screen together I can't believe I forgot "I respect you, bookerman!" which was to be a worked shoot but ended up as a real shoot If I'm not mistaken Pillman's final onscreen apperance in the WWF was in bed with Marlena doing one of his "playing with Goldust's mind" bits

How was the soccer mom (or whatever they called suburbian housewifes in 1982) reaction to Empire Strikes Back after seeing this great babysitter in the original Star Wars? Granted Empire isn't horrific in its violence, its just a dark movie where the good guys are trounced by the end Steve

The History of the Horsemen
Steve J. Rogers replied to Team Angle Pusher's topic in General Wrestling
Uh, hate to nitpick but weren't the Andersons storyline cousins? And Ole was never in the WWF, Arn and Tully split for the WWF not Arn and Ole Great stuff so far -
The Shea Stadium shows came long after Jess passed the torch to Vince Sr. (1935). The first Shea show was 1972 with Pedro vs. Bruno, and none of those sold out. Not sure about the Boston Garden but MSG wrestling was pretty new at that point. The bingo halls is more right than wrong. I meant Vince J. McMahon, wasn't he called Jess? As opposed to Vince K. McMahon, but the point is, they DID put regular shows in Shea during a time that revisionists say the WWF was only in bingo halls and flea markets Steve

Was there a reason for even finalizing the "character's" diviorce? I mean this is the same company that droped Vince and Linda's diviorce proceedings when it appeared that angle was going no where and the HHH-Steph "diviorce" dragged out for months Steve

Same here. I'm sure lots of people think Foley beat Taker in HITC II I think there is some review on Amazon.com that says that Wonder how many people think D-X STARTED as a "Merry Pranksters" Face group since they get alot of face treatment in retrospectives and such (before the group's face turn because they faced off against The Nation) Or believe revisionist history about the WWF under Jess McMahon being performed soley in smoky bingo halls, when in fact Bruno and Backlund were selling out MSG, Shea Stadium, the old Boston Garden, ect

A long standing feud between two legends based on the fact that one has never beaten the other. I kind of based this on Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels as the characters are modeled after them. One the uber-serious technician, the other the cocky ladies man wannabe rock star. The way I thought it up was, in the Michaels-like character's debut TV match (probably a weekend or B show) he was supposed to win using a move, he misses the move but the Hart-like character (who has been in the promotion about 5 years or so) still sells it, but HBK (going to use HBK and Hart just here as I haven't quite found their names) breaks the script and tries something spontaneous that was completely vetoed prior to the match, Hart shoots all over him and forces the ref to give a three count and eats the punishment. A year or two goes by and they both face off again for the big title and Hart wins and beats HBK in the rematch. During the buildup the real life situation surrounding HBK's debut match gets mentioned and Hart says he never, ever wants to lose to HBK after what happened. Not too many different angles happen (with both interchanging heel/face) but a lot of house shows and televised shows between the two occur through a lot of years in the promotion, and the two are quite respected and have won many titles, except HBK still has never beaten Hart. Till one day HBK just snaps and demands one more shot at Hart (now once again champion) a FINAL shot and HBK if he loses again he will quit, while Hart says the day HBK beats him HE will quit. And just to add special stipulations to the "Loser Leaves Town Match" which would be on the promotion's major PPV of the year, it would be an Iron Man match inside a Hell In A Cell like structure Naturally HBK wins the match, ending the very, very long angle, probably a good 10 years would be good for the angle to be effective Steve

Didn't Shawn himself say that in a promo with Jeff Hardy where Shawn was saying how in order to do something extrondinary in order to get noticed he superkicked his partner into a window Here is another one, Andre The Giant passing on soon after WM III which Hogan seems to think (he said it in that A&E special) Okay, around 6 years isn't too long, but its long enough to not be considered "soon after" or "right after" That may have been his last "big time match" (err not counting his win the next year and their "rematch" of course) but also not the end of his career

My interesting angle/character idea
Steve J. Rogers replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in General Wrestling
Oh, the heat would be impotent all right. And if the initial angle is forgotten after a year, than you really have an even worse idea, because besides that, all you mentioned is that he lost to the guy a few times, and then beat him after ten years. For comparison, Austin had beaten Rock twice in the main event of Wrestlemania, and also in about four other notable matches, but by the time they faced each other at WM XIX, no one really cared at all. Actually it'd be more than just a handfull, probably in the hundreds if you add house shows and random TV matches Steve -
Looks like something out of the late 1970's-early 1980's, heck even the photos kind of look dated!

My interesting angle/character idea
Steve J. Rogers replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in General Wrestling
Uh why? Wouldn't be akin to Vintage Yankees-Redsox where the rivalry is pretty much "You never beat us" -
Yeah, that would be like a history of baseball book saying Babe Ruth was TRADED to the Yankees, when he was SOLD Or botching a famous free agent signing as being a trade as Adam Sandler did in the Thanksgiving song "I can't believe the Mets traded Darryl Strawberry" Ugh! Steve
-
HA! Another example though of mainstream not realizing that WCW and WWF aren't, or weren't, the only games in town. And in case there really is someone that doesn't know reading this thread, after being FIRED from WCW Austin had a brief fling in WCW where he pretty much used a character that was a template for "Stone Cold" before going to the WWF Steve

My interesting angle/character idea
Steve J. Rogers replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in General Wrestling
No, the impotence for the heat in the first place is the botched finish/worked shoot (well it would be kayfabed somehow), from then on its about the HBK guy trying to beat the Hart guy and the Hart guy staying "one step ahead" The first match would be forgoten after their first big match And, as I said, they'd be kept away from each other for most of the 10 years in terms of major angles/storylines, maybe 5-7 big PPV matches (including tag/battle royals/ect) the rest just random TV matches/house show matches/ect Steve -
I thought I was the only one who noticed the striking resemblance between Clemens and the Undertaker. Early in Taker's run I thought Tommy Greene of the Phillies (pitcher in early 1990's, hurled a No-No one year) looked a little like him

Wrestling Moves you busted out In Real Fights
Steve J. Rogers replied to I like Forums's topic in General Wrestling
See, when Triple H portrays the Pedigree as the ultimate finisher from which no one can get up ever again... this is what happens Another move I don't think ever gets done outside the ring! Course thats what the Sledgehammer is for... In fact, how many finishers are good for non-ring vingettes and such? Probably only a handfull once you get past submission moves and basic suplexes/slams Steve -
WWE to show Wrestlemania Battle Royal
Steve J. Rogers replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in The WWE Folder
Booker T There was a bit of a spoiler on the post-WM Smackdown when Angle said he and Eddy were the only ones (out of him, Eddy, Ray, Show, Booker and JBL all in the ring to demand a title shot) to win a TELEVISIED match at WM and mentioned that Booker wasn't on TV at all Steve
