    The Old School questions thread

Probably Vince Russo ripping on the WWF's "New Age Outlaws" like alot of Vince Russo's stuff in WCW. Also I guess they needed some "legends" to put over Jeff Jarrett as a "legend" since most of the legends still in WCW either wouldn't do the job, injured or doing their own thing.

    Shitty Scenes in Great Movies

I guess scenes in extended edition DVDs also count. Elwood quiting his job in Blues Brothers seems uneccessary, as it was clunky and kind of annoying that it takes away from Jake being the only one to take off the glasses during the scene with Carrie Fisher later on.
  3. FYE: In recent radio ads I've heard For Your Entertainment stores, which I usually hear as F. Y. E. read as Fyes just one word, not the letters. Which one is the correct one? And if it is F.Y.E I wonder who the heck is screening the material after it is has been recorded? Target: I've always thought it was Tar-GET as in "hit the target" which would also tie into their bullseye red logo and buildings with it as its name are usually spoken in this manner, but I've been hearing it pronounced in a French way that rhymes with gay. Uh, which one is the correct one? I assume the hit the target one is correct and the persons using the other one is trying to sound pretentious.

Okay but he is still top 2 all time at that position, 3 if you want Ernie Banks and Honus Wagner in the conversation

Heh! Don't laugh, there really are still Yankee fans who cringe whenever you tell them that the best SS in the game is currently at 3B

ARod is two HRs now shy of 500. No matter when he does it this season he will be the youngest ever, edging out Jimmie Foxx's mark of 32 years, 337 days. For anyone still compelled to argue that Derek Jeter is a better player, consider that Jeter needs just 10 more home runs to clear 200. Sure homers aren't everything of course, but it is hard to argue with that disparity when in other areas of the game the two seem to be equals. Take for example hits, Jeter actually leads 2,281 to 2,178. That really should be a fun race a few years from now as they make their respective charges for 3,000 BTW, while its because he's been often injured, Noooooooooomah is well off their paces with 1,629 hits. He does have more homers than Jeter does with 214.

WOAH! I go on vacation and this is what I come back to!

Hey I didn't want to ask for a job and have someone say "Didn't you refuse us last year?"

Major restaurants and stores not in your area?

Oh I'm sure, and no doubt I'd probably go just once after "trying it out" and comparing it to say Pizza Hut or Papa Johns which probably would be the equivalent (Dominoes near me are for the most part take out/delivery and not really so much sit-in restaurants) I just love the ad campaign tactics that were used by them during the spring on local radio.

    Problems with PM sending

I've been trying to PM other posters, but it seems that the sent message does not appear in my Sent Messages mailbox. Does this mean the PMs aren't going through? Steve

    Part of a Complete Breakfast

I usually have flax seed in my cereal so I do chug after finishing the cereal portion. I don't eat suguary cerals so there is none of that disgusting mix of sugar and milk at the end. I do add blueberrys so it does from time to time have a powder blue-ish hue to it.

Major restaurants and stores not in your area?

Recently CiCi's Pizza Buffett was running ads, in New York City, and they do not have a franchise in New York State! Mostly in the Southern States. I know what they are trying to do (rise up interest in the market so they know that they would do well in said market), but it is crazy when there are probably those who think about eating out at the said restaurant that day based on a radio (or TV ad) that very second after the ad runs. Well thats what I thought about when I tried to see if there was a CiCi's in my area!

Eating at Applebees for the first time in four years.

I went to a local Applebee's the other day and had some rib bits. Apparantly I was under the impression that they'd be boneless rather than St. Louis style and ended up with my napkin to my mouth often. Lord knows how that must have looked to other patrons.

Eating at Applebees for the first time in four years.

Stayed there once in 1991. Not much except for a Mexican themed area and cheap hotel/food joints. No clue about how much it has changed or not in the ensuing 15 years though.

If that was the case Howard would have won in a landslide though. Seems like the Brewers went into hyperdrive mode to get Fielder in. No clue why Howard was chosen over say Aaron Rowand if LaRussa wanted a Phillie on the bench. I mean he ended up with two bench 1Bmen anyway so why not.

The Sporting News does that, its not an officialy official MLB award, they reconize it but it is not something that is considered official, but it is considered as close as you will get to the All-NBA squads and the All-Pro (not to be confused with the actual Pro Bowl) squads of the NFL

Mariano Rivera's pool accident, was there any more to the story?

Tried to PM you but I seem to be having issues, eh might as well post it here Interesting that yours is the only reply. Well okay, not so interesting, just wanted to get a more unbiased opinion about what exactly happened that day in October of 2004. I actually started (by accident) a flame war on a Met board because I suggested that Mariano Rivera was a Yankee that you could like because of what we know about Rivera off the field (missionary work, the fact that despite a classic great closer cockiness (same one that Goose and Eck had to let bad games roll off their backs) he is quite humble and not a jerk) I couldn't see one reason why one would NOT like Mariano Rivera So another poster posted, and many agreed with her something to the effect that yes it was very easy not to like Rivera and I wonder if it was just because of the incident because many on that board geniunely do feel that Mariano Rivera is a murderer of puppies and children (and not just because of the lyrics of his enterance theme) because his pool and property were wired to the exessive point that it seemed he didn't just want intruders (human or otherwise) to go away, he wanted them "dead" Plus the majority of posters are liberal atheists so to them Rivera's missionary work is easily dissmissed as "so what if he is painting churches in Panama" Never mind that their posts about how Rivera would be found criminally negligent and would be sued up the ass if that happened here in the states showed a complete lack of understanding of third world countries, that it isn't like suburbian US. Hell conditions in some places are probably worse than the worst neighboorhoods in the Tri-State area. The Benoit situation brought that question up again in my mind, well yeah the deliberate murder of one's wife and child and then himself is COMPLETELY different than two people getting accidently elecrocuted in a pool while doing maintenece, but in a sense the reaction of so many against Benoit brought the whole "Can one tragic incident erase all good that a person does in his life" question. Now granted nothing was really known about Chris Benoit except for his love and dedication to wrestling, and any reports of him being a "good guy" just came from stories from the lockeroom, dealings with the media and meet & greets with fans (both arranged and informal) so unlike Rivera most of Benoit's off screen personality was percieved from soundbites and momentary meetings but seeing how so many turned against Benoit made me wonder about the Rivera situation since I've seen vitirol thrown at Rivera because of the accident that seemed to go beyond the normal "He's a Yankee, therefore I hate him" hate. So maybe it is just Met fans that feel that way about Rivera. Ah well at least now I know that I'm not crazy in thinking Rivera really isn't as evil as that board thinks he is. Later Steve
  18. Had this discussion on another board some time ago, and granted it has nothing to do with some imbalance that causes a man to suddenly snap and deliberatly murder his wife, 4 year old child and then himself but the turning on Chris Benoit by many fans made me think of the situation in October of 2004 when two relatives of Mariano Rivera's were electrocuted in Mo's pool in Panama because Rivera essentially wanted wild dogs and Lord knows what or who else would go onto his property dead. So this is kind of a two part question, I mean, I haven't heard Rivera's wife's cousin's family (well his wife's family of course) try to get a wrongful death suit against Mo for the deaths of her cousin and his son in 2004. I don't mean to suggest criminal neglect, nor am I suggesting that Mo's home in Panama should be open 24/7 for all critters and people to just walk in (though the deadly force may seem excessive) I'm just trying to resolve in my head how I haven't heard anything else about the accident since it occurred, maybe I've just been growing up in too litigious of a society, where if a burgler breaks his leg while tripping over something in the house that he is robbing he can sue the home owner successfully, and I would think Mo's in-laws have a stronger case. And the second, which ties in with Chris Benoit, (and as I said, yes this is not even apples and organges but more like apples and sirloin steak) does one tragic incidient where the only issue is one of criminal neglience and not that he deliberatly set to murder two relatives, where a man who's public image has been very pristene (I mean look at all the good works Rivera does for Panama and there is talk of him becoming a minister down there after he retires) all of a sudden has all of that erased to the point where people hate him just because of the incident.

Is your dislike for a artist due to them or their fans?

Well, it's not like they're wrong or anything... Heh, fair point. Just sounds more like they don't give anyone much of a chance and dismiss anyone that emerges from the rest of the crap as being inferior to their favorites in every way possible. Of course forgetting the fact that there were forgettable artists in their eras as well.

Mets gain a game over the Braves, Valentin though looks to be out with a broken tibula as reported by the Mets radio You know, over the first 25 years the Mets franchise was famous for their black hole at 3rd. Well that has been solidified over the last 20 years, but now it seems 2nd has been a black hole! Phillies leading the Pads late...and it goes final, so MLB for Friday 7/20 is in the books!

As soon as people realize that its almost August and the Brewers are still in first! I do find it amusing that the Brewers lose 2 out of 3 to the Mets back in May, go into a tailspin and everyone stops talking about them being the "darlings" of the season, despite the fact that they never lost their divisional lead. It is bizzare though, both the Central and West races, hell even the East race isn't even getting too much national attention, let alone the very tight AL races, but the Yankees "surging" while the Red Sox are "wilting" gets the coverage.

Is your dislike for a artist due to them or their fans?

I'm surprised the (Insert name here)Heads that seem to follow the likes of Jimmy Buffett (Parottheads), The Greatful Dead (Dead Heads) and Phish (Phish Heads) around from city to city, tour after tour, year after year, after year, after year. haven't come up yet. Certaintly I can see a dislike for those fanbases equating a dislike for, or perhaps a notion that that the artist is vastly overrated. I don't but I can see how someone would. I get a bit turned off by older generations fans of certain genres, country music for example, that get turned off by the generations that directly follow their favorites. Like fans of the original Outlaws of Country Music (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, ect) will hate on today's stars like a Garth Brooks, Toby Keith or a Tim McGraw and complain that there is nothing to their songs, and that they are nothing but souless entertainers who only care about album sales and concert attendance. The vitrol is so much I don't even bother argruing, or questioning if say Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty faced simmillar backlashes coming into country from a rockabilly background.

    I'm going somewhere, too.

Hey me too! The weekend of Aug 3rd to the 5th. Will see the Mets at Wrigley on the 4th for the FOX national game. First time I've ventured out there, no doubt it should be a blast.
