-How the mighty of fallen for Kerry Wood. Whatever you blame it on, the fact that he's mopping up the potential final game of this series as his only appearance in the series is quite sad. -How does that decision to take Zambrano out of Game 1 look now with three outs to go before Game 1 turns out to be the LAST game Carlos played in 2007. -Sorry, but the song 99 Bottles of Beer comes to mind right now... 99 Years without a Championship on the wall 99 long gut wrenching years... Okay, no more taunting lyrics.

BTW, congrats Phillies and congrats to your 2007 NL MVP, Jimmie F'N Rollins. You did it, you have now replaced Chipper Jones as the most hated Met rival. Nothing else needs to be said about this matter. Well that and I truely want to see the Golden Jubliee celebration next year at Wrigley!

MLB.com says it starts at 7:37 ET/4:37 PT. Is that on ESPN or TBS? I intend on Tvio-ing it for the baseball historical nature of it

If you like to collect stuff like that sure, (and I am one of them) you buy all of the shirts. The division, league pennant AND the World Championship.

Anyone want a disinterested 1B with declining skills? Next year should be a stop gap before going after Mark Teixeira.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

Fair point, but the argument is mostly done in the NFL, and specifically the QB position, than the other sports.

That being said, that one game was a disaster for Knucksie and the Braves. Atlanta Braves IP H R ER BB SO HR Niekro 3 6 5 5 6 0 0 He didn't get the loss, and he was facing the NL West Champion Giants, but it was clear that the gimmick was a failed one.

Granted different ownership group, and it was for a One Game Only deal but they did bring Phil Niekro back for one more round before Knuckise called it a career.

Not to mention there is a great case that can be made that Favre is OVERRATED as a "great winner" since he only won the one time, and lost the second time and hasn't been back since. Jim Kelly has taken more teams to the Super Bowl than Farve did and Craig Morton has taken the same amount of teams to the Super Bowl as Farve has! Not to mention Jim Plunkett's 2-1 record and Joe Theismann's 1-1 record as well. Oh sure he is a future HOFer, and certaintly I'll take him over all 4 of the QB's I mentioned (easily over Morton, Theismann and Plunkett, Kelly there can be a debate about), but to put him in the same conversation as one of the all-time greatest winners in sports history, let alone the NFL, as so many "pundits" tend to is overstating what Farve has accomplished in his career. Not to mention that it is clear proof that in the media's eyes once you win A RING in the NFL you are "bulletproof" regardless of what came before or comes after winning your ring. So Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger can never win another postseason game the rest of their careers will be listed among the great "winners" in NFL history just because of their one championship ring.

There was a hilarious argument last night on BBTN with Ravech and I believe Dusty Baker. After they cut away from the Yankees/Rays feed, complete with Brian Kay (?) deeming this season a story of perseverance and courage, Ravech wondered aloud, with a $200 million budget, whether it should rather be labeled a season of underachieving. Baker then retorted "You can't call it a underachieving season. Their pitchers, early on in the season, were pitching terribly." What I would pay to have a camera on Ravech's face after that. Ravech just sighed and moved on to the next segment after that exchange. That's hilarious. I heard something similar on some ESPN show a few weeks back. One of their analysts was saying that this year might be Joe Torre's finest work as a manager because he took a team that no one thought could compete (really...?) and kept them in the race all year. According to this dolt, the Yankees were in a clear rebuilding mode this year and weren't expected them to make a run at the playoffs. It was too much for me to handle. I had to turn the channel. What is the purpose of even making an argument like that? And yeah, show me ANYONE who actually thought the Yankees were going to suck real bad this year?

Hierarchy of Worst Owners in Sports

He was suspended from 1990 to 1993 for paying someone to try to find dirt on Dave Winfield. I sure as hell wouldn't want to work for the guy, but a fan couldn't ask for a better owner. He spends money on the team, fields a winner, hires competent front office people and shows respect for the team's history. What more could you want? To most Yankee haters, and even Yankee fans (don't forget he pretty much ruined the Yanks from 82 to his suspension because he pretty much had free reign and didn't really have a soild baseball guy telling him no) he probably should be listed among the worse. -Being the reason for "The Evil Empire" -Being a liar, cheater, and all around egotistical piece of turd -Don't forget he was suspended in the 70s for using funds to illegaly fund Nixon's campaign or something like that -Essentially he is the Vince McMahon...check that, Mr. McMahon (he's more like the character version of Vince than the real Vince) of MLB Believe me, there will be many people who will be overjoyed and poping champange bottles when he finally passes.

    "Oops, I Forgot"

Right. For some reason I thought it was the other way around. The IC's history starts at Patterson, but it is rooted in that NA title. I wonder why they didn't just go with that title change rather than going with the tourny that never happened in Rio de Janero? Just to whitewash DiBiase's past? Have they ever kayfabed someone who Patterson BEAT in the final of that tourny that never happened in Rio?

    "Oops, I Forgot"

Anyone know exactly when that practice of forgeting everyone's past started? As I said up thread there is a backstage promo on the Hulk Still Rules DVD sometime around Hogan's title win (don't recall if it was before or after winning) where Bob Backlund flat out confront's Hogan on his heel past. I even remember reading a WWF kids book around the same time that even mentioned Hogan's past WWWF run, even saying that Hogan was managed by Freddie Blassie! Another great one is that Ted DiBiase's past (which included an IC title run) in the Fed so when "The Million Dollar Man" came in, it was like some complete new person.
