That didnt happen really until 1991. Yeah, you had stuff like the ding dongs, but you also had stuff like flair/steamboat, muta/sting, terry funk, the steiners, the skyscrapers, pillman, sting/flair, etc.

For a lot of fans, ECWs run on TNN was the first time a lot of casual fans had seen ECW. It was great to see guys i had only read about before, and stuff like rvd/lynn had me hooked. I agree that they should have promoted it better though, since the only ads for the show were shown DURING THE ACTUAL SHOW itself.

How popular was wrestling at your school? It never really lost popularity as far as i know, though there werent as many fans during the 92-97 era, but thats understandable . By the end of high school though (i attended from 94-98) austin and dx shirts were everywhere!

The Time Is Now... to Change Cena's Theme
Hadley replied to LivingLegendGaryColeman's topic in The WWE Folder
Am i the only one who thinks cena should switch to a rock song? After all, he doesnt have the rap gimmick anymore so coming down to rap would be pointless. -
What was your reaction to Hogan's heel turn in 1996? I remember my friend telling me that Hogan was the 3rd man at BATB 96. I couldnt believe it so i tuned into Nitro intently that night (i dont even remember what RAW was offering that night) and they made subtle comments about it during the whole show, before revealing the heel turn at the very end of the show. It did make me a huge wcw fan for most of 96-97 (though i didnt care much for hogan at the time, even when he was with the nWo who i marked for) just to see what was going to happen next. Looking back it was the start of wrestling's loss of "innocence", since throughout the next year we saw the rise of austin, the USA/Canada feud, more and more serious stuff in the big two (i didnt get ecw until 99 so i cant comment on that) which was in sharp contrast to what was going on even a year ago (1995).

Didnt the Arachnoids gimmick get on tv? I do remember them having a cup of coffee as a jobber team around that time.

Taker/Austin at summerslam did pretty well and that was a face/face match. And even though austin/rock was good, with austin/foley you set up more unpredictability (not just booking-wise but also match-wise, especially since this was the era where foley was doing crazy bumps galore).

How about having foley keep the belt until WMXV? You could have done the dream match between austn and foley there, and it would have been more memorable, plus the ending wouldnt have been so obvious (an 8 yr old could have told you austin was walking out of WM with the belt). Also, taker should have gone over bret at survivor series 97 instead of hbk. That way you get the belt off bret without the screwjob (though in the long run it was a good thing), taker gets his heat back after losing HITC a month before, the kane feud gets more intriguing, and hbk can still win at Rumble 98.
