GSP and Huerta are going to have the Twin Cities ladies falling apart like a Minnesota bridge. They are the North/South South to Mouth Connection.

UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin
Lord of The Curry replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Pretty much, yeah. Griffin could keep this standing and win on that alone. Thinking on Griffin he's a weird case. Came in strong, had a great bout with Edgar and followed it up with the Guida and Tavares wins but since then I get the feeling that UFC isn't putting as much hype behind his fights. For whatever reason Tibeau and Aurelio feel like a step backwards. -
Oh yeah, my buddies and I were loving it. Guida needs to be ringside at every MMA event, his energy is contagious.

Dama- I disagree 100%. It would be much more beneficial for Elite and Kimbo for him to lose but still show something in the process. Anybody who wants to see Kimbo get humiliated is unquestionably somebody who cares nothing about his growth and just wants to see him get taken down a peg as opposed to evolving as a fighter.

If Gonzaga can effectively implement a leg-kick gameplan against Werdum I see no reason why Vera won't and unlike Gonzaga I expect Vera to stick to that gameplan and not folding like a cheap suit.
-
Okay, give the guy a break. He's been thrust into the spotlight without much time to prepare and is being shit-talked left and right by anybody with a mic in their face. In terms of skill-level of course he shouldn't immediately be fighting in the main but the ratings speak for themselves and what they're saying is "Elite made the right call". Can you imagine what a disaster it would've been if Lawler/Smith got curtains?

UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

The Tavares fight was dope no doubt but it also exposed a fairly large hole in Griffin's game in that he takes too much of a risk by putting himself in bad positions. Will Aurelio be the one to make him pay for that? -
I'm the ice cream man. I'm a one man band.

Man, I used to down those all the time when I worked next to a Tim's but now they don't sit quite right. Maybe because the fat content is massive, even worse if you get it with cream instead of skim or 2% milk. -
Oh, I'd also be remiss to mention the uber-fit blone cop who was escorting fighters down to the ring.

So reading up on Lostpedia another "connection" if you will to the possibility of Charlotte being Ben's daughter: Charlotte was one of the Bronte Sisters, as was Annie and the third sister was Emily who shares a name with Ben's mom. At this point I can't see how Charlotte isn't Ben's daughter but hey, it's Lost.

Yeah, the only times Kimbo made any motion they were thumbs-up when Thompson had the guillotine and side mount. Whatever, some people will find a way to hate regardless.
-
So far the best conspiracy theory I've heard about this show is that EliteXC utilized a phantom tape-delay thingy in the second round when Kimbo supposedly "tapped" which is why none of us saw it.

People bitched about UFC 80 and it delivered in spades, I expect this one to do the same.

Technically, maybe but Faber/Pulver I'd rank higer simply due to Jens hanging tough when nobody giving him a shot, the crowd heat and Faber not being afraid to stand and trade with Pulver. I thought Jens was DONE after Faber dropped him the 2nd.

Hermes Franca vs Frankie Edgar SWEET JESUS THIS CARD IS SICK Fitch/GSP Herring/Lesnar J-Mac/Maia Florian/Huerta Danzig/Guida Kongo/Evensen Karo vs TBA McCrory/Cummo Franca/Edgar Manny/Emerson SOOOOOOOOOOO HOT

Just so we're clear, Faber vs Pulver is your FOTY right now. Not a FOTYC. Nothing's coming close to beating that right now.

NEWARK, N.J. – While millions of viewers around the country were able to tune in to a night of live mixed martial arts action on network television, far fewer were able to witness a verbal exchange turned near-altercation between victorious EliteXC heavyweight fighters Brett Rogers and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson –- and Ferguson's entourage. The tension began to brew before Ferguson had even made his way to the post-event press conference that followed Saturday's "EliteXC: PRIMETIME" event. Rogers, who defeated Jon Murphy in the night's first televised bout, was one of the first fighters at the conference to address the media, and he made it a point to discuss what he felt was a less-than-stellar performance by headliner Ferguson. "I seen some [expletive] today," Rogers said. "I seen some [expletive], some garbage-ass [expletive]. I'm a heavyweight, and I feel I'm a true heavyweight. (James) Thompson? Much respect. But I'm saying it like this. Kimbo Slice, man, that was just garbage, man." The conflict continued to grow when Ferguson took to the podium 20 minutes later. Before speaking, Ferguson shook the hand of every fighter on the panel. Rogers did so reluctantly and with a disgusted look on his face as he refused to look Ferguson in the eye. When a reporter brought Rogers' earlier statements to Ferguson's attention, the YouTube legend did his best to defuse the issue. "Everybody's entitled to their opinion," Ferguson said. Moments later, with Ferguson still at the podium, Rogers was asked directly if he would like to match up with Ferguson in his next bout. "Looking at the fight tonight, man, yeah," Rogers said. "A man is man. And what I saw in this man today, it was just garbage." Rogers then turned and addressed Ferguson directly and brought up a controversial "phantom tap" that some believe occurred at the close of the second round. "I'm going to speak it real," Rogers said. "It was garbage. You did tap. You did tap out (and) I was right there." Ferguson responded immediately. "That sounds like a challenge, big dog," Ferguson said. As Ferguson and his entourage converged on Rogers (and the entire stage), "The Grim" refused to back down. Media members, including a certain MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reporter who sat just a few feet from the stage, soon found themselves -- literally -- in the middle of the melee. "It is a challenge," Rogers replied. As the EliteXC staff worked to restore order, the two fighters glared intently across the podium. Ferguson was being restrained by EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw and Vice President Jared Shaw, as well as members of his entourage, while Rogers was being held back by fellow panelist Phil Baroni. Despite the best efforts of many, the verbal tirade between the two continued. "I ain't letting no bush [slur] call me out like that, man," Ferguson said. "You talking all hard, and you bring that garbage-ass [expletive] today," Rogers replied. Ferguson was quickly calmed by Gary and Jared Shaw, but members of Ferguson's entourage continued to shout at Rogers. "You a hater," the group directed repeatedly at Rogers. "I'm a hater?" Rogers asked. "I'm a hater because I'm putting [Ferguson] on the spot?" A member of Ferguson's management was finally able to corral the majority of the entourage, telling Ferguson that, "We'll get our chance in the cage." The tense moment was finally over as Ferguson and his entourage left the room, and further questioning resumed for the remaining panel members.

They don't offend me. I'm used to seeing them in previous EliteXC shows. I got over it fairly easily.
-
I'm not seeing a ton of awful but then again I wasn't expecting a lot after seeing Shaw embarrass himself at the press conference. The first three fights were perfectly acceptable MMA, no question that Lawler/Smith was BS and if you are shocked that Kimbo got leeway against Thompson in the second I can't really help you there. Can they improve on time? Absolutely but this was no worse then, say the Swick vs Burkman UFN in January.
-
Miles has enough potential in terms of storyline to seriously factor into the final season.
-
This might go down as one of the bigger over-reactions to a show ever. Take notes.

If Mik is going to let this slide we'll need some ground rules on what exactly warrants a thread, otherwise this place will just turn into shit. -

If we're making threads about this we might as well just copy and paste every article that shows up on the MMAJunkie home page. -
Big Country vs Kimbo was more thread-worthy then this. Mik, do yo thang.
