Agreed w/ the Benjamin comparison. The crowd has the buzz about them when he's in the ring, you can tell they're waiting for him to pull off some crazy shit.

I love how two people so far have used the term "magical connection", implying that I said there was something along those lines when I never did. If somebody can name me a wrestler in the company who's as over with the crowd based simply on in-ring work as Benoit I'd like to hear it.

Why not cast the guy who played Beast in X2? Kinda makes sense.

The difference between Benoit and everybody else (including Eddie) is the lack of pandering to the crowd. He gets over on hard work and respect alone, something nobody else in the federation can claim.

Those are such predictably sad answers. The bottom, unignorable line is that through the way the guy works in the ring the fans connect with him on level that probably only Eddy Guerrero can achieve. "Charisma" is not defined by a flashy entrance (Michaels) or lots of ring antics (Flair, Rock). Sometimes it goes beyond that. If it's too deep for you to understand I suppose it's your loss.

I'm assuming that there's a hilarious/badass enhancement story behind this. Do tell.

I seriously can't believe that this thread is still alive, much less that people are trying to come up with logical explanations for one of the most useless wrestlers on the roster to get a world title run.

I don't think anything you just said there makes any sense in reference to what I said. Let me dumb it down for you, sport: Out of the group of wrestlers that I mentioned (Booker, Jericho and RVD) Benoit still came out looking better in the end because he didn't get outright squashed. Benoit can connect with the audience in ways that Jericho, Booker and RVD only dream of.

Don't know anything about the book but damn if that ain't a first-rate cast.

This is nuts. The crew I'm running with is basically a massive social circle of people around my area of town. Hope it doesn't fail me.

The only reason that Benoit has survived the burial somewhat intact, as opposed to the likes of Jericho, Booker and RVD is because he has an unparalelled connection with the audience and is still one of the top 3 workers in the company at any given point- has been for quite some time now.

Don't forget Benoit somehow being inserted into the Lita/Kane storyline. That continued on long after he jobbed so I guess you could say he played second fiddle to that angle too. But hey, he beat lots of people and made HHH tap out. That's what fuckin counts.

"Credible" is a debateable term when your biggest accomplishments include jobbing to a flash-in-the-pan youngster and wrestling a retard.

Just so we're clear, David Arquette is also a former champ. What a step up.

The guys who use all their backstage pull so that they almost never lose. And yet they BOTH lost, to fucking Chris Benoit of all people, who everyone thinks has just had his soul crushed by HHH.
