The fact that Tom felt the need to say anything at all implies enough. Considering how infrequently Dames was around and how much administrative flux has happened on the board over the last year, it would be rather naive to expect a passing of the old administrator to occur without some commentary. But, lo and behold, I made a small comment about Dames' considerable inactivity and Tom felt so compelled by my distasteful comments that he couldn't help but deride them as classless, as though "class" were actually the standard of this administration (or any "administration" on the web, for that matter). Maybe I thought it was pretty funny that I managed such a response out of somebody who ripped a certain poster from asshole to elbow for just posting a farewell thread at WDI, somebody who famously ridiculed many a poster who had issues with the board for having "sand in their vaginas." Oh, come on. Dames had the option of humbly stepping aside for "his" site to success under somebody else's watch. But why do that when you can feed your self-importance by going over the top! Yeah, I know where you're getting at, because you've seen me post in the past...but you're reading way too much into it. I saw his comment and felt like flaming back, maybe even to bait him a little bit because I was aghast - aghast - that stoic Dr. Tom would even bother replying in the first place. Given that Mike the Admin was throwing ads on the page and panhandling on any street corner he could for TSM money, I'm not sure how much of anything Dames really paid for. Please don't tell me I'm the only one who put two and two together here. The fact that he continually undermined the administration that worked under him with his erratic appearances and promises of big changes (which were followed by nothing and quickly forgotten) doesn't help you out a lot either. He was a terrible administrator who successfully guided what was a burgeoning online community into a mediocrity, perhaps even a running joke at this point. The fact that it's stayed afloat for so long is more a credit to the posting habits of the people therein and the relationships that they've developed with other long-time posters, rather than any riveting plan that Dames managed to implement for the site. -

Not a thing. -
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ah, well.

T I M E P A R O D O X Er, you're the one who brought a thread to Site Feedback. If you didn't want to bring attention to him, then what exactly were you trying to do? First of all, you seem to be under the false impression my John Cena thread was intended for anything other than attempts at comedy. I find it hilarious you didn't get that, especially considering what the very first thing I posted in that thread was: That really should have been an indication I wasn't taking it seriously at all. So then some guy posts just to piss me off, so I decided to play along. How should you have known I was just playing along? I posted this: If his goal was to annoy me, he needs to find something to do with his time that is more challenging. Apparently my big-ass anvil of subtlety was a little to difficult for you to understand. Or maybe you misplaced your "big-ass anvil of subtlety" when you went all the way over the top by creating a thread in Site Feedback about it. Yes, I quoted it twice, because it's that stupid. He needs to stop annoying you because it's easy? </TheMikeSC> Once again, let's get back to the point you keep sidestepping. Why start the thread? If you started it as a joke, then why bring it to Site Feedback, that untapped source of ha-ha for the whole forum, and say the guy was a troll? Or what, are you going to reach across the internet and beat me up? Good lord. You posted your shit in Site Feedback, that pretty much puts the scope of the discussion in site feedback. Which is the folder we're in.

Did you know that guests can view every folder on the board but Site Feedback?

Two Oasis albums in the Top 20? Almost makes you think that the poll was held in England or something.

KANSAS CITY MONARCHS Lineup vs. LHP: 1. L - 2B - Joe Morgan 2. R - 1B - Jeff Bagwell 3. B - CF - Mickey Mantle 4. R - LF - Joe Medwick 5. R - 3B - Ron Santo 6. R - RF - Bobby Bonds 7. R - C - Johnny Bench 8. R - SS - Robin Yount Lineup vs. RHP: 1. L - 2B - Joe Morgan 2. R - 1B - Jeff Bagwell 3. B - CF - Mickey Mantle 4. L - LF - Jim Edmonds 5. R - 3B - Ron Santo 6. L - RF - Bobby Abreu 7. R - C - Johnny Bench 8. R - SS - Robin Yount Starting Rotation: R - Curt Schilling L - Bill Foster R - "Bullet" Joe Rogan R - Red Ruffing Bullpen: - Closer: John Smoltz - Setup: Robb Nen - LOOGY: Jim Brewer, Arthur Rhodes - Sidearm specialist: Gene Garber - Middle relief: Gregg Olson - Mop-up: Rick Aguilera Bench: * R - 2B/SS - Julio Franco * L - RF - Chuck Klein * L - 1B - Will Clark * R - C - Johnny Romano Manager: I'm not sure who would fall into this, but only bunt for hit, aggressive stolen base, don't reserve closer for endgame (in fact, since it's Smoltz, leverage him for as many innings as possible). I think that Sparky Anderson probably fills the first two, but it's hard to tell with the last one, considering that the Big Red Machine teams almost had six man rotations with a very small bullpen. Reservists: 3B - Bill Joyce RHP - Jeff Shaw CF - George Van Haltren LF - Zach Wheat 3B - Jimmy Collins
-
I'll grab LHP Arthur Rhodes for my final pick.
-
Intriguing lineup the Reds are trotting out today: D Jimenez 2B K Griffey Jr CF S Casey 1B A Kearns RF A Dunn LF J Randa 3B R Aurilia SS J LaRue C Kearns cleaning up? Casey in the three hole? Dunn stuffed back at No. 5?
-
And, since it seems like I'm yet another round behind the pack, I'll grab 2B/SS Julio Franco
-
All right, let's try this backup catcher pick again: C Johnny Romano
-
If only I had searched the draft picks page for "Darell Porter".
-
And, since I need a backup catcher and a source of exotic drugs for my team, I'll take C Darrell Porter for my third pick.
-
Since I don't have a lefty reliever, I guess I probably better take RP Jim Brewer to help shore up the pen a little bit.
-
Wow. Looks like I've missed a couple of picks. Well, since I'm three picks behind, I'll go super value pick with 3B Bill Joyce first.
-
Kansas City takes OF Bobby Bonds. EDIT: I had pencilled down a pick, but changed my mind. Given that nobody read it and the picks list wasn't updated, I thought it would be okay to change...however, if it's not, Al's got my old pick as well.

The database does not account for Ruth as a pitcher at all. Now, should I adjust Ruth as a pitcher? I do not believe so. Ruth lived a duel role as a batter and pitcher for two seasons, in 1918-19. His strikeout rate plummeted. The Yankees did not see fit to use Ruth in that role, and I see no reason to think Ruth could succeed in that manner. So I am inclined to use Ruth solely as a hitter. What about "Bullet" Joe Rogan? He pitched and played in the outfield for a good deal of time, if I remember correctly. Does the DB have any adjustments for him?

I got 28/40 on the first time around, would have been 29 if not for the "gotcha" on 39.
-
Since closers are dropping like flies, I guess I better overdraft and take P Robb Nen.
-
Since my whole strategy has been revolving around how statistics will be translated between eras, I have a feeling that my team is either going to be pretty decent...or just implode terribly. C - Johnny Bench 1B - Jeff Bagwell 2B - Joe Morgan SS - Robin Yount 3B - Ron Santo LF - Jim Edmonds CF - Mickey Mantle RF - Bobby Abreu SP - Curt Schilling SP - "Bullet" Joe Rogan SP - John Smoltz SP - Red Ruffing SP - CL - I also realize I haven't picked out a park yet. Hmmmmm.

Well, time to make a homer pick. I can think of three or four other players to pick, but I don't really care. Even though he's renowned for his defense in center, he played left early in his career and - frankly - I don't care because he'll have the range to cover whatever ground he needs to. It's fitting that he'll be in the same outfield with Mantle, since he's shared a Mantle-esque prime of his own over the last couple of years. The Kansas City Athletics select: OF Jim Edmonds

anyone been watching the Congressional hearings?

I'll take SP Curt Schilling.
