As rumored for along time, UFC has just purchased Pride. This is huge and I think will make a significant dent in WWE's PPV revenues for guys like me who like both, but if I have to spend x amount of dollars a year on PPVs, I'm going to spend it on megafights of UFC/PRIDE and just wait for WWE PPVs to come out on DVD. I truly think the now together UFC/Pride will make much more $$$ than WWE this year and in the future. When Fedor fights a UFC guy (Couture for a unification bout?), that alone will blow away any Wrestlemania buy rate ever. No question about it.

The OAO Raw Hot Sell for WM 23 (March 26th)

Oh man, I hope this is true, but I won't expect it. With 70,000 people present (ie, a much bigger than normal Mania crowd), I would think it would be tougher to have a crowd turn against a storyline (ie, cheer for the heel), only because the percentage of # of people attending likely goes up in the categories of children + women, who usually cheer the babyface/heels and are less likely to "try and make a statement". Chicago (last year) and NYC (WM XX) were easier venues to have something like this happen b/c of the rabid/vocal fanbase in these cities and that they are smaller venues than Detroit's, in my opinion.

Who says they won't for mania? If they did the whole Conan/king of kings thing and Mobster cena last year, they may do it this year too.

The OAO Raw Hot Sell for WM 23 (March 26th)

Lashley will lose by McMahon having like twenty guys interfere on his behalf (and then umaga at the end). Does that really make Lashley look weak, going into Mania? Not really. And Lashley/Trump have been "coming out on top' in all the pre-match feuding, so it only makes sense Lashley has a setback.

Personally, I'd like to see Vince get Uber-heat by having Umaga give her the Samoan Spike and forcing her to join the Kiss my Ass club. Course, Umaga wouldn't look imposing as i'm pretty sure Arethra looks like she weighs more than him. Might need a forklift to get her in the ring.

    WrestleMania 24 venue officially announced

I can see it now, the ending to Wrestlemania XXIV: Triple HHH, grabbing his sledgehammer, goes to wack Cena across the head, but slips on a rain-soaked mat, and knocks himself out, allowing Cena to retain...again.

Watching some old WWE DVDs and I came across a question that has been bothering for sometime. We all know Kurt Angle was an olympic gold medalist from the 1996 Summer Olympics. But why did he come to the ring with TWO (obviously fake) gold medals while in the WWE, when i believe he only won one (in the heavyweight freestyle division, I think).

    WrestleMania 24 venue officially announced

WTF? Are you serious? I'll assume you aren't but just in case, WWE has run in Vegas countless times including other PPV events. There are no legitimate lines in Vegas over pro wrestling. It'd do damage for a wrestler to throw a fixed sport? I really hope this is sarcasm that didn't go through well. OF COURSE this was said in pure jest (wrestling is fake?!?!?!). I thought the sarcasm went through pretty well, myself.

    WrestleMania 24 venue officially announced

Obviously. Afterall, I'm sure Vince wants to keep the WWE credible and make sure it's not influenced by the lines in Vegas for the matches. It would be a terrible tragedy/cause irreparable damage to the sport if a wrestler threw a match or didn't do all they could do to win a match. Or worse, if a Ref were bought off by the bookies.

    WrestleMania 24 venue officially announced

I think it will suck for all the people in attendance that don't have ringside level seats. I say this because of the lighting(if they use do it at night)/special-type matches (hell in cell or ladder/money in the bank/)/other extra supports they'll have to have around the ring since they can't support it/hang it from the ceiling like they normally do. Thus, I think alot of the ring/viewing will be obstructed, unless you have a ringside seat. Always thought Wrestlemania IX must have sucked for those in attendance b/c of poor visibility for fans not at ringside (and the fact that hogan won the belt for the second title change in 9 seconds).

I agree (except he's more important than goddamn Batista, who is ruined), but really, the Rock became an "elite" type wrestler with his feud with Foley; from there, the Rock went to the moon.

hopefully it's to say he's never coming back. I really don't understand all the Foley hate that's been coming since a couple of years ago on this board. The guy makes really sporadic appearances, has great promos and segments, puts on great matches, puts everybody and their grandfather over, so what's not to love? Or are some people still crying as to how Foley SHOULD have stuck around ROH and make Joe the superstar he should've been by now? I just don't get it. Foley's serious promos and actual feuds (ie, when he's not plugging a damn book) since he "retired" have all been very good/great (except with flair); much better than any of what Flair has done as active wrestler during that time period. And unlike Hogan, actually puts everyone over in a meaningful way. Hate seeing him plug a book, but otherwise, he's much better than 95% of the lockerroom still.

I am not sure what Lesnar's weight was in college, but he wrestled JUCO where I lived and even then the guy was a beast. People at Bismarck State College told stories where he practically lived in the weight room. That and he would carry full kegs of beer over his shoulder for parties. Yeah, everything picture I've seen of him in college shows him to be looking literally as strong as an ox. But when he won king on the ring/Summer slam in 2002, he had muscle on top of muscle (look at his extremely defined pecs, esp. upper from lower pecs when he beats the rock) and i have a hard time convincing myself that anyone can look like that naturally. He's not totally freakish like Lashley, but it's impressive. Anyways, anyone else realize why this particular report on wrestlers in the scandal was a top story on ESPN? That with Monday night raw as its main compettitor opposite the millions dumped in by ESPN to Monday Night football, it's trying to make it's compettiton look bad and thus gain more of an audience (yes, I know, the ratings for MNF>>Monday Night Raw). Really, if ESPN doesn't have MNF, it's like the 5th or 6th story at best.

I do find it humorous that nobody has mentioned Benoit in all this "Who's taking 'roids" thing in this thread yet. Too obvious, I guess. A couple of guys i wonder about in wrestling in the past: Goldberg (who was NFL size before, so I'm not sure) and Brock (who looks like he certainly was, but I'd like to see his college wrestling weight compared to his WWE weight, if anyone knows). I'd be damn surprised if Taker isn't using steroids to be the most muscular he's ever been currently at his age. Something tells me even if he were busted with the Wellness program, that he'd still get paid. Oh, and of the ECW guys, I'd be surprised if Sandman wasn't using steroids for awhile (he got really big for him, compared to himself in the 90s).

You can't be serious about Rey, right? It's a no-brainer he was on roids. Of course, Eddie, though being off hard drugs, was obviously on roids; anyone who watches his 2004 No Way out title win over Brock can obviously see that he has perhaps the worst case I've ever seen of back acne from roids. Guess Benoit gets his roids from Canada, and thus, will not be named...until his unfortunate premature death from steroid related causes.

All PPVs Returning to Multi-Brand Format

Kill ECW (as having three brands makes no sense) and just have the champions go back and forth between shows. Unify the belts (all of them) except the US and Intercontinental, which can be the top "brand-specific" belt.

Nobeody gets higher, or is stiffer than RVD. Anyways, it must hurt when Edge does his maniacal laugh. I hope they keep this new angle/attitude with Edge past money in the bank. Cheap heat, yes, but good heat.

The Electrified Cage match was announced at the tapings to be taking place at Lockdown. Wow, TNA really is just WCW. Why don't they just bring back Abdullah the Butcher to be taken out in the electric chair?

    Ideas for WWE Box Sets

Just a disc on "The Art of the interview/promo" that would be just of the best promos/interviews all time with the guys who did them commentating on them: Include Flair/hogan/Rock/Warrior/Foley,etc.

Cheapest way (so far I've determined), is FYE @ $169.99 + 10% discount if you have their backstage pass discount card. Really helps in states like mine (NY) that charge a high tax. Deep discount.com has it for ~$ 172 with free shipping.

    OAO Raw Thread 3-12-07

While it would be funny for about 3 secs, WWE would lose all credibility from the media that is covering this "big event", and piss off alot of actuall WWE fans. The people who are only casual watchers of WWE will stop watching totally, and a portion of the diehard wrestling fans, like myself, will stop watching because of being tricked/cheated (out of principle). It's one thing to have bad storylines based on Necrophilia, but it's company suicide to a degree to piss off your fanbase by essentially stealing their money by promoting something so heavily and duping them on your biggest PPV of the year. So, it's no going to happen: Vince WILL get his head shaved. Period. But I do want the fans to trurn on Trump/Lashley (which will mean the crowd will be really hot that night, which always makes for a better PPV watching-wise, in my opinion).
