Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

Rather than waste any time, I'll complete The Minnesota Wrecking Crew. I'm selecting Gene Anderson.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis

This is something I just noticed, but people in NYC would kill someone to get a 3 BR house for $400,000. I just saw something on the news last week which was trying to show what you could get for a "mere" $500,000 these days and it could get you a 2 or 3 BR in Hoboken, NJ (I forget), a smallish 2 BR in Jackson Heights, Queens or a 1 BR condo in Manhattan and all that's AFTER the bubble burst. Just thought I'd provide a little perspective on how absurd the market still is here at least.

    College emotion vs professional devotion

Morrison's meltdown reminded me of the LLWS when some kid blows a game and the cameraman gets a nice, tight closeup shot of the sobbing child on one side of the field, while the other team is celebrating. It's acceptable when dealing with someone under 13, but a college student throwing that kind of tantrum was the most pathetic thing I've ever seen on a basketball court. His "I'm in need of a diaper change" moment lasted at least 2 full minutes too, so it wasn't something that could be brushed off as a temporary loss of composure.

    '90s Song Tournament

Veruca Salt- "Seether" - one of my favorite songs the year it came out. Beck- "Loser" - Beck was awesome. Paula Cole- "I Don't Want To Wait" - I have an irrational fandom of Paula Cole (and her nasty armpit hair). Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris" - I had both albums here but prefer this to "Missing" by a little bit. The Breeders- "Cannonball" - Fuck Hanson, and I like this song too. Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice" - If it was a video contest Helena would have won this for Isaak, but I prefer this song by a wide margin. Jewel- "Who Will Save Your Soul" - The album isn't good because most of the singles are better than the album tracks, but I'll take it over "Jump" any day. Deee-Lite- "Groove Is In The Heart" - I love me some Deee-Lite. Sarah McLachlan- "Building a Mystery" - One of my favorite songs of the '90s. Warren G. (feat. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate" - One of my favorite hip-hop songs ever. Sixpence None The Richer- "Kiss Me" - I never liked Biggie. Christina Aguilera- "Genie In A Bottle" - Not much of a contest here. Fiona Apple- "Criminal" - I wore this CD out and it was my favorite song on there. Toni Braxton- "You Mean The World To Me" - Toni Braxton's debut was a great album. Then she decided to turn into a sluttier, less talented version of herself. U2- "One" - I love old school Mariah, but this is better than "Dreamlover". 'N Sync- "Tearin' Up My Heart" - I actually have to pick a fucking boy band because I just don't like Jay-Z at all. I feel dirty. Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box" - Better than Spirit in every way. Blink 182- "Dammit" - Coin flip came up heads. I like both songs but couldn't really pick one on merit. Blur- "Song 2" - Woooooo hoooooooooo. Stone Temple Pilots- "Plush" - My favorite STP song. Smashing Pumpkins- "Today" - Today is the greatest. Seal- "Kiss From A Rose" - Great song. The Cranberries- "Linger" - Better than "Dreams", but not better than "Zombie". One of the most underrated bands of the '90s. No Doubt- "Spiderwebs" - I hated "Don't Speak". Underrated song. Alanis Morissette- "You Oughta Know" - I liked the video to "Ironic" more, but this is the song/album that got me hooked on rock so it will probably get my vote in just about every round. Green Day- "Basket Case" - That other song got overplayed, this one didn't. Oasis- "Wonderwall" - My favorite song of theirs. R.E.M.- "Everybody Hurts" - Both songs are great, I just like this one better. Meredith Brooks- "Bitch" - I think this holds up better than "Tubthumping", so it gets my vote. Bush- "Glycerine" - I only know the Rascal Flatts version of the other song, and I thought this is one of Bush's best songs. Third Eye Blind- "Semi-Charmed Life" - I purchased the album for this song. Blind Melon- "No Rain" - Great song and video. Aerosmith- "Cryin'" - I didn't like "Waterfalls" as much as most people did. Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun" - I'd rather watch En Vogue, but listen to Soundgarden. MC Hammer- "U Can't Touch This" - Come on. Spacehog- "In The Meantime" - I fucking love this song. Don't really know why though. Naughty By Nature- "O.P.P." - My favorite hip hop group of the 90s, and one of their best known songs. The Verve Pipe- "The Freshmen" - The album sucked, but this song was great. 2Pac- "California Love" - Not a huge Pac fan, but his worst song is better than anything Britney ever did. Spice Girls- "Wannabe" - I HATE HATE HATE the Fugees. Again, I feel dirty picking a band of talentless hacks. Dr. Dre (feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Nuthin But A G Thang" - One of the best rap songs of the '90s. The Verve- "Bittersweet Symphony" - Don't know the other song and I actually liked this one. Beastie Boys- "Sabotage" - Don't know the other song and I actually liked this one. The Cardigans- "Lovefool" - Tough call here, but Nina's voice wins out over the wackiness of The Spin Doctors. Offspring- "Self Esteem" - Huge fan of the group. Eagle-Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight" - No contest really. Semisonic- "Closing Time" - Catchy song even though I don't remember anything else about these guys. Collective Soul- "Shine" - I'm probably one of the only people who will pick this song, but I think it's the better choice. Radiohead- "Creep" - Not even close. The only Radiohead song I REALLY like. Outkast- "Rosa Parks" - I couldn't stand PUSA, so this was no contest. Pearl Jam- "Evenflow" - Tougher choice than I would have liked, but I've gotta go with Vedder. Sheryl Crow- "All I Wanna Do" - Sheryl Crow is a guilty pleasure of mine. Joan Osborne- "One Of Us" - Great song. Great album. Career killed by Alanis winning all of the Grammys that year. Dishwalla- "Counting Blue Cars" - Sinead has a better voice, but this is one of those '90s songs I still listen to regularly. The Divinyls- "I Touch Myself" - Fuck Nada Surf. I HATED that song. Faith No More- "Epic" - Maybe the toughest choice in this whole round for me. Guns N Roses- "November Rain" - One of the easiest picks for me. Arrested Development- "Tennessee" - Arrested Development was amazing. Hootie and the Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" - I've gotta go with Hootie here. Harvey Danger- "Flagpole Sitta" - Never heard the other song. Garbage- "Only Happy When It Rains" - Shirley Manson is one of my favorite lead singers of the '90s. Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy" - Coin toss since I don't remember either of these. Foo Fighters- "Everlong" - Dave Grohl gets the nod.
  5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7947460.stm Actually what he says makes perfect sense. If you wait for marriage for sex, and have sex with a fellow virgin, your odds of contracting and spreading AIDS drops dramatically Unless of course one or both of these hypothetical virgins was born with AIDS, which seems to be the case for a lot of kids in Africa. Abstinence doesn't work in Alaska, so I'm pretty sure it's not gonna work in Africa. The idea behind abstinence may have merits, but telling people that using condoms "increases the problem" is factually incorrect and going to lead many more people to die when they continue to spread AIDS because they didn't use condoms.

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

I'm surprised he's still here but I'm not going to wait any longer to pick up another key piece to my tag team ranks. My next pick is Ole Anderson.

    NCAA Tournament

That George Mason run is one of my favorite playoff runs by any team in any sport. Sadly, it hasn't helped the mid majors at all when it comes to getting picked for the NCAA tourney.

    NCAA Tournament

That was one of the greatest chokejobs in the history of the NCAA tourney and crying Morrison just makes that whole thing so much better. That Batista guy was the goat on both ends of the floor there.

    2009 World Baseball Classic

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/8590096/14047196 Is he the first "name" guy that's gotten hurt there? I haven't really been following it at all, but thought this was a big enough deal to post.

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

I was really unsure of whether I should choose him or Mulligan, but decided I needed more Texans.

    This week in the NBA

Wade responded today by becoming the Heat's all time leading scorer with 50-10-9, 4 steals and 2 blocks in a win over Utah. Granted he took a shitload of shots in a 3OT game, but the guy is averaging 37+ PPG, 10+ APG, ~6 RPG with ~3 SPG since the AS break. LeBron's going to win, but Wade has been superhuman for Miami this season.

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

It's been 8 hours and I still need a tag team now that Tomko was snatched out from underneath me. So, I'm taking a guy who fits the bill and happens to be from Texas to boot, my next pick is Blackjack Mulligan aka Barry Windham's father. Based on this pic they're freakishly similar looking or this is just a poorly identified pick of the son and not the father.

    The Rams released Torry Holt.

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

I was going to try to wait another round or two on him, but I could use a little more athleticism on my roster and I don't want to miss out if there's a run on guys who fit that bill now, so I'm going to take Ron 'The Truth' Killings.

You do realize that the #1 seed does NOT have to win on the road to win a series right?

    The Amazing Race: Season 14

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that all of the remaining teams seem as likely to win it all as they do to finish in last in the next episode. It's probably not much of a stretch given that 3/7 of the teams are made up of two females at this point, but if an all woman team doesn't win it this year I don't think they ever will.

Discussion: The 2010 NBA Free Agent Class

I think if anyone does move, it's going to be the "lesser" big names like Amare, Bosh or Carmelo. Wade and LeBron are their respective franchises and already have plenty of endorsement money. The other guys might feel the need to move to a bigger market to make a name for themselves, or simply to get out of bad situations. As it is though, the Knicks only have a couple of valuable pieces and there's no way they can afford to sign Nate and Lee to longterm deals and still be in the hunt in '10. I have a feeling that things are going to be disastrous at MSG when they don't land LeBron or Wade and they'll have ended up shipping away everything they had for expiring contracts or letting guys walk to clear cap space.

Discussion: The 2010 NBA Free Agent Class

I've been saying all along that they need to have a "Plan B" just in case we don't get any of the big names. I have a sneaking suspicion that they'll end up with a bunch of scrubs playing big minutes, but they'll be many millions under the cap in 2010.

I need to make this pick quickly, so I'm taking Giant Bernard.

I think I would like to change my MVP vote to Wade right now.

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

I think that this guy will be working a match against Sid, with Sid playing the role of the American hero fighting off a foreign invader. He's not a great worker, but would be perfect for a match in Texas as the hated heel even though he's not Japanese. My next selection has the most sculpted physique in the history of the (W)WWF/E, I'm going with Yokozuna. BANZAI!
