A few questions: 1) Was there a planned Undertaker vs Berzerker PPV match in 1992? I remember seeing the Bezerker trying to I guess 'kill' the Undertaker with his sword, with the Taker just escaping and the sword being driven into the canvas. Surely there must have been a pay-off for this? 2) This has probably been covered but what were the circumstances regarding the Paul Roma vs Alex Wright match in 1996 that allegedly led to Roma being 'blackballed' from the industry. I seem to remember being told it was either because Roma shot on/no sold Wright, but this has happened with numerous other guys so why just ostrasize Roma? 3) I remember watching a Flair vs Regal series in 93/94 for I think it was the 'Calcutta Cup' (?). What was the buildup surrounding this series, and how come Flair was put over as the babyface winner only to morph into a heel shortly afterwards for his feud with Hulk Hogan? 4) I remember a 1993 match between Mr Perfect and Rick Martel ending during the commercial. Did this happen commonly years ago, presumably before the more tightly run TV shows? 5) Was Yokozuna ever close to signing for WCW as was rumoured in the mid 90s for a feud with champion Hulk Hogan? If so, what stopped him? 6) What led to the Genius parting ways with Mr Perfect and eventually joining the Beverly Brothers. Similarly, why/how did the original Coach character take over from Bobby Heenan in managing Hennig? Thanks

In Smarkland, Bill Goldberg gets a lot of sh!t, but seeing him for the first time was one of those moments as a wrestling fan i will never forget. In my opinion, Goldberg is awesome.

As Native American Tatanka, Chris Chavis went on a winning streak that lasted around two years IIRC. The WWF obviously had plans for the guy, and he was a very over worker for quite a bit of time (at least before the heel turn). But what were Tatanka's best matches in the Federation?
-
Didn't Tatanka face Bret Hart for the WWF Title during his short-lived comeback in early 1996?
-
'If I remember correctly'. Apologies.

Owen Hart vs Shawn Micheals post-Montreal should have gone on longer (at least a PPV match). This feud would've rocked if given more time - two great wrestlers and a legitimate backstory = great feud.

I think we're talking Dave 'Evad' Sullivan here.

David Flair and New Jack

Jason Jett was supernova-over in WCW's dying days. On a vaguely-related note, here's a bold statement: If WCW didn't go under, Sean O' Haire would've become the biggest star in the business.

Re: RVD getting the WWF Title, the ideal time for that would have been at No Mercy in 2001. Obviously with the InVasion stroyline looking to be killed off, this would have either taken the imprtance away from the Austin/Rock based confrontations or extended the feud longer, which they obviously didnt want to do. Still, back then Van Dam was as over as anyone outside of Hogan in recent times. Hip, fresh (to the casual viewer), he should really have been given the torch there and then.

34. Disco Inferno - bring him back as colour man who occasionally wrestles. The man is entertaining.

Just today remembered a match from an epiosde of Nitro (or possibly Thunder) in fall/winter '99. Diamond Dallas Page faced this guy known only as The Machine. It was practically a squash if I remember rightly, yet the guy was hyped during the show and, at near 7 foot (wrestling heights) was by no means your typical jobber. A few people who saw the match at the time said it looked like Goldberg under a hood. Does anyone know who this guy was and what his purpose was in WCW?

Fair enough man, I didn't realise the Austin point, but I'm sure the Kane/HHH match was billed and advertised as a unification match. As for the World title thing, i understand the point about HHH just being given the belt. In storyline terms it was a power play by Bisch to get back at SmackDown for for signing Lesnar, but admittedly it could have been done better. Back to the original question, i find it hard to accept the 'WWE' Championship as being what Bret/Hogan/Andre won whereas to me the World title is what Flair/Sting won years ago. This may be somewhat to do with the actual belts themselves, but is mainly becuase the World Heavyweight Championship seems more prestigous than one that refers to 'Entertainment' in its name.
-
1) HHH was given the World title after winning a number one contenders' match. As he was the top contender on Raw, and with Lesnar leaving, the Raw part of the belt should by right be his. 2) Noone seems to moan about the IC belt's lineage (Rio de Janeiro 'tournament') and the fact that the belt was unified with HHH's World title, thus making the current IC belt's lineage different (starting Judgment Day 2003)

OK, my 1989/90 history is a bit hazy... Kerry Von Erich won the IC strap at SummerSlam 1990 from Mr Perfect, replacing Beefcake i believe as the challenger. My question is (bearing in mind i've never seen the whole PPV) how come the debutant was given the belt in his first match? I know Von Erich was a 'name' in other promotions but the Texas Tornado character was new and Vince let him go over Hennig with no prior feud or anything. Was this basically to appease the fans, disappointed at Beefcake's non-appearance, or was Tornado meant to be pushed heavily as champ before his run got cut? (i ask because Hennig regained the belt soon after)

HHH vs Batista? Flair vs Benoit? Edge vs All the other Canadians?

The first ever... Hats ladder match To unify Bradshaw's cowboy hat and the Taker's 'old school' hat thing There can only be one hatted champion

The HHH turn basically revolves around his jealousy of Orton holding the title. The only way to keep them apart now really would be to have someone contest Trips having the title shot, but Benoit has been pinned twice now by Orton, and noone else is really in the main event picture. Besides, Orton will surely want retribution on HHH right away. They will headline Unforgiven alright. Anyway, slow burn is boring if you know the exact plan up until 'Mania. Twists in the plots keep it interesting, no? Admit it, very few people saw Monday's turn coming on that night. This is what we want as fans essentially - sensible booking and surprises that make sense, leading to bigmatches.

RALPHUS!!! PEN!!! NOW!!!

Did he not work indies as Vince Torrelli or something similar? I seem to remember PS putting UFC/Pancrase guys in the list though.
-
Slightly random thought but wouldn't it be cool if they brought in DDP for a night for Orton to give him the RKO?
-
Interesting that the top 2 guys ten years ago are arguably the same as many people's top two guys today. 100th post! Wooooo!

Apparently he also faced Hardcore Hak on the Thunder prior to Spring Stampede 99. E-C-dub!
