Religious Tolerance & Religious Moderation Are a Joke
hyperchord24 replied to Big Ol' Smitty's topic in Current Events
So, people want proof that God exists? If you don’t see it you don’t believe it? People are stupid for believing in something that they can’t prove? Let me say that I’ve been grappling with the existence of a higher power for quite some time now. And I don’t know what to believe. I do have some responses to the whole “proof” argument. Why does God have to prove his existence to you? Whether you believe in him or not has no bearing on whether he exists or not. And another thing – if God showed himself to the world and showed us heaven, hell and every secret in the world and answered every question we had, what would happen? Suicide rates would increase b/c essentially when we realize there are two worlds in which to exist (the here and now and heaven), you could basically choose which one to “live” in. Another way of putting this is if a God were to exist, would he show us that he existed or would he let us figure things out for ourselves? Does a parent constantly hold on to his/her child when he/she is learning how to ride a two-wheeler or do they let them try, fall, get up, then try again? There’s a lot philosophical mumbo jumbo in there, but I hope it gets my point across. Asking for proof that there is a higher power and not believing when none is given is a very closed-minded mindset. As far as I’m concerned, why not believe in God? If you don’t and you’re wrong, that’s very bad. If you do and you’re right, great! If you do and you’re wrong, what’s the harm? Better safe than sorry. -
I'd be mad too after seeing Murdoch botch that spot

That was a nice tag match. I'm diggin' the double team moves of nitro and thunder and that capoeira kick

Well, this is random. Vince: "well, I put over Lashley with the tride and true heel authority figure vs. face that's been screwed, so now, time to work my magic on Cena!"
-
Cena needs to add some credibility and fall with his opponent when he does an "extreme" FU. He just looks like a pussy by just throwing his opponent off a raised surface. But then again, when's the last time he had any credibility at all?

On ESPN radio Saturday, John Clayton and Sean Salsbury were discussing NFL news items and came upon the planned UFL. It was reported that Mark Cuban was going to be part owner and you can imagine the idiotic discussion that followed. It's obvious they dropped Cuban's name just to add some meat to the story, but they had to know that he was just an interested party and not one of the organizers like it implied.

Great first match. Miz is looking better with that clothsline into the turnbuckle and the modified over the top neck snap he does looks good too. What was the move that JBL was reffering to when he said it "was one of the greatest moves"?
-
Well, based on the rulebook, he caused interference. It doesn't matter if he said "ha" or "mine." He confused the infielder. And, let's not delude ourselves into thinking he's telling the truth. Arod did not say "ha," he said "mine." The only real reason he would have to lie is to cover up how stupid he was in thinking the outfielder had it by saying "ha," instead of "I got it" or "mine."

One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread
hyperchord24 replied to Black Lushus's topic in Television & Film
You do realize that there's an entire star wars expanded universe with novels, comics, guides and even game instruction booklets that have to follow canon, right? well that's along the lines of what I'm saying, but hasn't he already fucked a lot of that so called canon up? There are things in the Thrawn trilogy alone that were negated thanks to the prequels. Well, since he's the be-all, end-all on everything, he can usually just explain away any discrepancies. But honestly, I get the impression that he wants to call himself a filmaker more than a writer, and as such he almost seems to detest it when he's asked to explain the details. -

I had no idea he was such an idiot. He seemed pretty normal. Last I heard he was married with his first wife and had a kid. 13 months later, he's divorced and, blah, blah, blah.

I don't know if this was ESPN's or the MLS's marketing strategy, but this whole "MLS: you're a fan, but you just don't know it yet" seems like a desperate (and not well thought out) attempt to get fans interested. It's along the lines of NBC's "if you haven't seen it, it's new to you" campaign a few years back. Not clever at all and destined to fail.

Not a reason why ESPN sucks, I guess, but during the 1 hour NASCAR special today, a headline at the bottom of the screen read: Affect on the Rest of the Season when talking about the whole DEI story. This is an error. Affect is the verb. Effect is the noun. Yeah, I correct grammar. Whatever.

I've really enjoyed his work since I first saw him on Smackdown months ago. I'm surprised that people here bash him since he's pretty decent in the ring and on the mic. [smartmark]that could've been Shelton Benjamin's push![/smartmark]

What's more is that Bush says he plans to veto the plan to remove troops starting in March 08. What sense is that? It's going to be passed in 2 years when there's a new president? Politically, I see nothing for Bush to gain by vetoing.

I like it and no, I don't think it's lazy booking, but I do think that the qualifying matches are. Not so much that there's no thought going into those matches, but it seemed like one time before a RAW, one of the writers said, "hey we need some time to kill on RAW, so let's have qualifying matches for the MitB match."

I hope you're being sarcastic. You do realise that this line of thought is what keeps us in Iraq. Because our leaders are too stubborn to admit when they're wrong and change their mind and oh - God forbid - be a flip flopper, we suffer. EDIT: I see what you mean though about campaigning anyway. Oh and @Jerk: The direct quote says to me that right now and at this point in time a religous leader is needed, not the general sweeping statement you interpret it as.
-
Agreed. I know the evangelical christian vote is pretty big, but I think I read that even they've lost faith in the man whom God tells what to do.
-
Well, sure you don't need to have a person of faith run the country, but it isn't like someone who admitted publicly to being an atheist is going to be elected any time soon. So while there is a clear separation of church and state, religion is a very big deal to people in the US.
-
I don't pay all that much attention to politics, but for Bush to say that he's "putting more money in Iraq and that's the end of it" seems so ignorant. Does he realize he's not a dictator? Does he realize that there's checks and balances? Makes me feel like when a new president is elected in '08, and the he tries to take office, Bush is going to have troops positioned everywhere to execute something like order 66 and take over as dictator.

Did you hear Hardaway? No, I mean did you hear the way he spoke? It sounded like he was reading a script or something. What he said, he said with such lack of emotion, it makes me wonder . . . Was he paid to bring the Amechi story back to life? After all, Dan Le Batard is on the ESPN payroll and Amechi's book is published by ESPN books. If you Tim Hardaway, you have to know that saying how you felt had to bring on all this hoopla. So why would he say it . . .

Isn't this the kind of shit Eli and the Manning camp wanted to stay away form?

FOX News planning right-leaning show similar to Daily Show
hyperchord24 replied to DerangedHermit's topic in Current Events
See, when people like Tucker Carlson point out that Stewart makes fun of his guests and makes a joke out of the news, all Stewart has to do is sit back and and say "it's a comedy show on a comedy channel!" However, when it's fox doing the same thing, they make themselves, the channel and the party which they represent look incredibly childish. -
You're absolutely right. But for that reason I cannot watch that show. It moves too slowly for me to get involved because I need answers RIGHT NOW and this show doesn't do it for me. I watched the lost special last night and the synopses of each season were enough for me. Part of me wants to theorize, etc. etc, and part of me wants to kill the writers because they want me to theorize and keep watching the show.

What does this do for company morale?
