    State Your Unpopular Opinions

Ron Simmons got the belt because Watts thought he could make money with him. Don't let the truth get in the way of this historical inaccuracy. Can we close this thread? It's just pages and pages of morons sprouting ridiculously false statements and completely failing to support the "beliefs" that are so mind bogglingly wrong just for the sake of sprouting shit. Only a handful in here have said anything that was remotely correct. It's statements like this that give smart fans a bad name. Seriously, the thread title is "state your unpopular opinions. Say it with me. "State"- not talk about and back up your opinions - state. Opinions are not right or wrong. Unpopular doesn't mean wrong. Get off your high horse.

    State Your Unpopular Opinions

Like this board needs another John Cena tirade, but anyway . . . Anyone else absolutely HATE his "Hustle, Loyalty, respect" T-shirt? It makes NO sense whatsoever, and are just 3 buzzwords from the rap/hip-hop community strung together to get over the fact what his character is supposed to be. Yeah, and that Marine salute (if you could even call it that) is the most rediculous thing I have seen him do in a long time. It just goes to show how much of a company man he really is. I mean, if Vince and Johnny Ace told him to go out there to the ring with a tutu on, showing his sensitive side, he would go oout there, no knees and all, get in that ring, use his Will Smith voice and act like he's over.

    OAO Vengeance 2006 Thread

I have no doubt that Sabu will dive into a crowd at some point, but the lumberjacks will probably wind up keeping this match in the ring more than it should be. The match would be better if it was just "extreme rules." Even with that stip, you could still do the Sabu dives into a crowd of ECW guys spot and it would be far less predictable. Something I never thought of. Having an extreme rules lumberjack match seems almost counter productive. Obviously the kayfabe reason for having lumberjacks is to make sure the "action" stays inside the ring. But if it's an "extreme rules" match, why would you want to contain them? Now, the real reason you have lumberjacks is so they get heat for interfering with the match. But again, if it's an extreme rules match, guys can interfere anyway, with no threat of any reprocusions. All this, I'm sure the WWE thought of.

    OAO Vengeance 2006 Thread

Well, that is specifically what I was referring to when I said 'failed', not becoming the next Rock or Austin like Vince wanted. Wasn't Meltzer saying that Vince was making getting Cena over as a babyface his new pet project? I personally don't believe that people are coming to see Cena at house shows. Do you happen to have the numbers at hand to show it? As for TV ratings, they went up when Cena lost the belt (to Edge), and I think that sends a powerful message. I hate Lumberjack matches were all the lumberjacks are heel, they always suck, and I have a feeling the only difference with this one is Sabu'll pull out an awesome spot or two. I just don't like the idea of Cena overcoming the odds (like that's anything new). We've already seen how they're willing the book the finishes of "extreme rules" matches, and I fear that the ending sequence could kill a nice match (lots of brawling, a few nice spots, the crowd reaction to Sabu). I would also not be surprised to see the match end with and ECW/WWE brawl, and that would be a shame. With that in mind, I surprised Cena hasn't said he's gonna bring 10 lumberjacks from WWE with him. At least this way, it wouldn't be a garauntee that Sabu and ECW would get booed.

Styles' weekly column from WWE.com. Interesting read. Breaking kayfabe on WWE.com?

    What was your reaction to....

I'm not sure. I thought Nash was undeserving, of course, but I'm not sure if someone who deserved a rub would have made the end that much better. What's the best way to end an undefeated streak angle? Well, even though you could make a major star, never starting one would be the first thing. There are so many bad things that can happen when you do one.

    Most annoying ROH crowd ever?

Wul, ya, but it's Joe and Kobashi I remember and ill-placed "this is awesome" chant. I felt like since the crowd thought it was going to be an awesome match, they figured if they jumped the gun, that's okay.

    TNA's Greatest Match

I've seen Styles v. Joe v. Daniels and it's one of the most entertaining matches I've ever seen. Mind you, I haven't seen much GOOD wrestling, but still. I have no idea which one it was. I believe Styles won and Daniels was going in the champ.

OAO 6/20 ECW Week 2 Thread

Well done. Every match entertained the hell out of me. Even Orton's presence didn't screw things up too badly. Of course, the real question is who's show was it? While it does look like Heyman's hands were on most of it, why would Vince let him do anything based on last week's rating? I thought for sure the show wouldn't be this good.

OAO 6/20 ECW Week 2 Thread

I don't understand this. I thought based on the reaction last week that Vince would do things his way b/c of the ratings.

    OAO 6/19/06 Raw Thread

That could've been the brooklyn brawler for all the WWE marks could tell. Why must HE be the one to work the WWE-style match? You know, Cena hit Richards with a chair too. At least he would look a little better and the fans would know who he is too. Why Balls? Did Vince find his name funny? And who was the SS member who got on the mic to call DX out just before the slime? He sounded very much at home, which is a welcomed change from the other recent call ups. It amazing how Cena's now getting pops again. I almost started cheering for him while he was getting up -- before he started with his mean face. Sabu is amazing. For someone who's heard a lot about him, but never really saw him in ECW, he is fun to watch. Good gimmick control too. While he plays an arab, he doesn't ever resort to getting cheap foreign heel heat. Or does he? Like I said, I've only read about him.

I don't think he's turning heel until his movie comes out. They need the fat chicks and children's money

    Educate me on ECW

A lot of these things could be said about TNA and ROH. I know I'll get blasted by a lot of the people here by comparing the three, but it's true. Same small venues, wrestlers that worked their ass off and no mention of politics (save JJ). Just great wrestling. That's it. None of the crap that goes along with it in WWE. Only ECW did it about 10 years ago. They were the orginators. No argument there. I just figured the OP maybe followed those promotions and could relate to it and understand ECW as it was.

OAO ECW TV Thread - June 13th 2006

I'm glad you decided to pick out THAT part and reply to it. Either way, I was just saying that even though VKM wants something to succeed doesn't mean it will. But then again, that's true for just about anything anyone does, so whatever.

OAO ECW TV Thread - June 13th 2006

So, I’ve had a while to let ECW’s first show sink in. If anyone cares, here are my thoughts. You know, VKM REALLY wanted XFL too succeed to you know. Just thought I’d put that out there. When I came on to the boards after the show, I was SHOCKED at its reception. I thought it needed work, but I didn’t think all the comments about a wasted hour of TV were not needed. I figured people were just being too smarky and those who were saying “OMG ECW is going to suck!” needed to say they were right about ECW failing and were too proud to say anything else. I was wrong. I was duped in thinking that VKM would step aside and let Heyman run things all by himself simply because he wanted it to succeed. That said, I think it’ll get cancelled some time in the future, and become an internet show and die a slow death. But then again, we’ve only seen the first show. In itself, the product is not beyond saving. There are ways of building upon the first show and saving the product. But that requires a virtual on air statement that VKM and co. do not know how to make good wrestling. This brings me to my next point. You know, any one of us could fantasy-book this show and it would be a better product. I don’t like fantasy booking. You know why? It’s not real. We don’t have to deal with wrestlers. We don’t have to deal with egos, politics, images, crazy, senile owners, network reps, money or jobs. We just want good wrestling. All those afore mentioned characteristics get in the way of good wrestling. This is what we get because it makes the most important people happy. No, obviously not the fans, the owner and the network. Hell, even scifi doesn’t want their icon (an alien) to get squashed by a wrestler. SciFi isn’t feeling the job? What the hell is up with that? It’s the image you’re concerned with? Wrestling is scripted, that alone should make everyone involved with the business concerned with their images, not winning or jobing. One last thing I want to point out. In looking back on the ECW’s first episode, I now realize it was very WWE – influenced (I know most of you saw this right away). Not because of its hokyness, but because booking. I was in love with the idea of ECW being recreated because of one reason: OVW stars and indy stars would finally be making it to TV. I didn’t want to see the old ECW. I wanted to see what Heyman could do with WWE money and a good farm system. That’s why I didn’t immediately hate the first episode. After Vengeance, we’ll start to see the future stars, I thought to myself. One thing I didn’t notice right away was the nonsensical booking. Did we see who Angle’s next feud is with? No. Did we see RVD’s next [ECW] challenger for the belt? No. We got a commercial for RAW. Did I see credible match ups? No. Did we see any long-term booking plans? No. New INTERESTING characters? No. This is the same throw-stuff-at-the-wall-for-two-hours-and-see-if-something-sticks kind of short-sighted booking that we see on RAW and SD week in and week out. I was entertained for an hour last Tuesday and I’m ashamed to say it. I’ve been watching WWE for too long and I feel I no longer know what good wrestling is anymore. I apologize. I’ve watched VKM’s version of wrestling a have become brainwashed. I’m going to watch some old ECW matches, some ROH and TNA matches to understand what good wrestling is again.

    ECW Videos

So, on the subject of ECW matches, I never really watched all that much ECW and would like to start. I'm tempted to get "The rise and fall of ECW," but I know it's just WWE revisionist history. What ECW dvds should I get?

OAO ECW TV Thread - June 13th 2006

I was wondering that myself. Vince COULD have RVD throw the WWE belt down, but why crap on that legacy. He'll be double champ until he gives it back to Cena, which is why the name plate hasn't changed and RVD didn't breal off the spinner.

ECW One Night Stand 2 Thread

Why in God's name would they be chanting for batista? So . . . the crowd heat made the ppv? So if I wanted to buy it when it comes out on dvd, how much of the crowd heat would be edited? Should be interesting to see how the crowd reacts from now on since niether the 'E or the new ECW wrestlers will be in front of a crowd like the one from the ppv.
