    Super Bowl XL

The intention behind using the old geezers was to make sure they are somewhat known and won't flash their boobs and keep the attention on the game. If the game is as bland as this one, we should get some boobage. Suzy Kolber, to be exact.

It's in Miami, which is noted for being a hip, trendy area. ... The NFL is proud to announce that Elton John will be the special hafltime entertainment for Super Bowl XLI edit: I actually believe Elton John will be the half-time show next year, that wasn't a sarcastic shot at the NFL's old safe geezer policy.

You know, if they wanted overated 70's arena bands, they could have gone with KISS. At least Detroit Rock City would have fit the event, rather then I can't get no (satisfaction). They are equal corporate whores as well.

I am in the same boat as you are, maybe they are a good live act which is their claim to fame (although I'm not seeing it here) but very little of thier arsenal is special.

Ya know, I am really surprised the NFL didn't try to have Rolling Stones do some cheesy Hurricane Katrina tribute ala U2 and 9/11.

I love the plants in the crowd. Yes, obviously the young twenty-somethings are loving this. This has the feeling of an MTV music award performence. Phone in, likely lip-synced and phony crowd.

You mean to tell me, that people will fork over $150 bucks for 3 hours of this?
  8. Hawk 34

    Super Bowl XL

I know they aren't the best band or anything, but U2 really emphasized the way the halftime show should be.

Leave it to the Stones to play a boring set using the same old songs. Fuck you Janet Jackson. You led us to this.

What do you have against team introductions? Do we really need to stretch the pre-game anymore?

    Who's gayer than kanyon

What about chili? Do crackers, of any variety, add or take away from the chili? I don't like crackers in my chili, any kind of chili. I don't mind sprinkling some cheddar cheese but crackers don't mesh well with chili, for me at least.

20 years of cracker consumption validates everything Rudo is saying.

Most of these MVP's look bored/pissed walking out there.

Does Stevie Wonder do every single pre-game super bowl show? It feels like it.

Blame it on the team he plays for, being trapped in a market like Seattle where ESPN and other national sources don't pay attention to, has caused him not to be exposed enough to the casual fans. Credit his lack of personality to be a reason, he isn't a top-shelf name in the NFL. Having great stats doesn't always mean people know who you are. It's about where you play and what you have done. You need to stop acting like it's a personal insult that people don't follow Seattle. This team has a history of mediocrity, no other major stars except Largent. How can you expect people to care about Seattle. It's fact. They lack a superstar presence and lack anything meaty enough for the media to push to the country. That's why the expectations are low, that's why Pittsburgh dominated the media focus. It's Seattle's chance to step up and show the nation who they are...but it won't matter. Next september, it'll still be "Seattle what?"

    Super Bowl XL

People know what the Seattle franchise is, thanks to the constant plastering of their name and logo on every network, newspaper and website over the last two weeks. People just don't know them. There's a lack of superstar players (Alexander is far from superstar level), it's a city very people identify with or if they do, they attach it with Cobain, computers and coffee. Pittsburgh has a legacy that people are familar with, an obvious sentimential story in Bettis and a rising superstar QB in Big Ben.

    Save Wrestlemania

You see the problem with WM4 was, there was no real "great" match. Although Savage/Dibiase finals was good, considering. Just as a whole, the show was flat, which was assisted by the long duration. Without the tournament concept, the show is forgotten. Yep. WM 5 is better than WM 4. And what bad match is at WM 3? Hercules Vs Billy Jack Haynes, King Kong with the "vertically challenged", and Reed Vs Ware...I could have gone without seeing.

    ROH Dying????

The promotion isn't booked around anyone for the matter, not even Danielson or Joe. It's always a ROH show, not a indy show staring Samoa Joe and Bryan Danielson. Gabe was willing to place the title on WWE contracted worker, twice. Knowing full well that WWE could easily order them to no-show those dates and hold the title hostage. TNA and ROH have a working relationship, TNA lets ROH keep its talent, ROH sells and promotes TNA items and they have worked together on certain things. ROH allows TNA workers to use the TNA titles on ROH shows, TNA will give ROH a mention on national television or pay per view.

I just don't understand everyone saying there is no story or angle with this game. Maybe I'm a bit biased because I'm in Pittsburgh but you have Jerome Bettis coming back for another season, just to get to this game, getting there, in his hometown none the less. And oh yeah, he's #36 and this is the 36th day of 2006. You have a second year starting quarterback, the youngest to get there next to Dan Marino, and he could become one of the greats with a lot riding on tonight's performance. You have the longest running tenured coach in the NFL who may never be considered a 'great coach' or a Hall of Fame coach unless he gets a Super Bowl ring. The #6 seed in the AFC playoffs that overcame all odds to get there. Another coach on the opposite side of the field trying to prove himself a winner without Bret Favre as he takes a team to Detroit for the franchise's first Super Bowl. I just can't believe that people outside of their hometowns are upset that it's not the Colts or Patriots or feel there is no backstory to this game because there isn't a 'marquee player'. Not enough trash talking beyond Joey Porter. I couldn't take the Patriots in this game AGAIN. Had Tony Dungy and the Colts got to the big game - I just have a feeling there would be an uncomfortable emphasis on Dungy's personal tragedy bordering the WWE-Eddie Guerrero situation in turning a real-life tragedy into something for NFL storybooks and ratings. Seattle sucked the life out of this super bowl, at least as far as hype goes. When the nation collectively doesn't care about 1/2 the teams involved, expecations and excitment is lowered. The Bettis story was burned out before AFC title game over, Big Ben is a good story but Tom Brady wasn't much older then Ben is when he won the title, so the appeal of a young QB going to the sb isn't there rgith now. Holmgreen isn't exactly a major coach in the eyes of the casual fanbase, so the whole "Can he win without Favre" thing doesn't exist.

If you are watching any pre-game shows, which one are you watching? The ESPN countdown, ESPN2 SB hightlight marathon or ESPNC's 40 hour special or NFL network's show.

    ROH Dying????

Not even close. Once again, ECW was horribly ran. Gabe and Cary have a well designed business structure. ROH isn't shutting down, the workers ARE getting paid, they are making money. I guess it's hard to understand that ROH doesnt WANT or NEED ppv and tv to thrive.
  23. Hawk 34

    Super Bowl XL

I want Pittsburgh to win, mainly because I do like Bettis and obviously, I have a connection with Ben but i really think people under-looked the Seattle team. I don't think it'll be close, I hope it is but we have been spoiled by the NE super bowls. People say the SB never lives up to the hype but if a game has zero hype, are there any expectations for it? I think the game will have a difference of 2 touchdowns, but no more then 17 points. My hope? Pittsburgh 27 Seattle 23 My prediction? Pittsburgh 16 Seattle 31

    ROH Dying????

TNA has television and pay-per-view. Publicity and money are far more important than anything else in the wrestling business. TNA having TV and PPV doesn't make them stable. TNA doesn't make money. RING OF HONOR, does. Making money is the most important thing, which ROH does. Not making Money, is what TNA does. Publicity is nice but when you aren't turning over a profit, you aren't stable. TNA just has a good backer in Spike and Panda.
