The fact of the matter is, they're already in the process of restructuring: Ford is already on the way (As Kotzenjunge already pointed out in the other thread), GM is looking to expand into China (A place where the Japanese can't get into because of hostile Chinese tariffs and restrictions), and... well, do what you will with Chrysler. Odds are that it'll likely be part of GM soon enough. I don't mind some government oversight: This idea that "THE GOVERNMENT SHOULDN'T BE ANYWHERE!" helped get us into this mess. Reasonable government oversight will help restore confidence in the system after it ran wild. Unless we want to go the "ECONOMIC APOCALYPSE NOW!" because some conservatives suddenly want to return to "balanced budgets" after 8 years of fucking things up. No matter what the Big 3 do restructuring wise, they'll always have the noose tied around their neck already by way of the Unions and the pensions of the Retired workers. There were scores of empty seats at Joe Louis all season and the Wings were barely a blip on the radar until the Conference Finals. As a Lions fan, I remember Barry wanting to come back if we traded him and the Redskins offering multiple first round picks for him and we turned it down. Under no way, shape or form is Jason Maxiel is on the same level as Chris Kaman. The only thing Max has been his whole career with the Pistons is a spark off the bench. Its a well known fact when he plays big minutes, his size shows and his effectiveness wanes. Thats why he will never be a regular starter in the NBA. Kaman was a near all star last year. You cant be serious. If we want Chris Kaman, we would have to give up Rasheed plus another starter. A guy that averaged 12.7 rebounds over ANY 52 game stretch is a consistently good rebounder. Maxiell has had 3 games in his CAREER that was more than Kaman's rebounding average last year. Kaman also is lightyears better of an inside scorer than Maxiell. I think that would have helped a team that was at the bottom of the nba in points in the paint. Maxiell's offensive skillset is devoid of post skills. Of course if you watched the Pistons, youd know that.

Calvin Johnson is already being paid like a superstar. Paying two WRs star money is a bit curious when the Lions let go starters at RB,DE,SSLB and RT this offseason without having suitable replacements.
