    This week in the NBA

Why though? Guys like Kobe, Garnett and LeBron have all shown that you can be really good coming into the NBA right out of high school. If a player is NBA ready, why don't you want to see them? That's why. Ripper says that, for every Gerald Green, there are ten guys that turn out to be good players. Not only do I strongly disagree with that, I go completely the other way: I say that, for every LeBron James, there are three Ndudi Ebis. For every Dwight Howard, there are five Robert Swifts. For every Kevin Garnett, there are six or seven Leon Smiths. I could do without that aggravation. While we are making up and twisting stats around to support our viewpoints, For every Tim Duncan theres 10 Ed O'Bannons, for every Jason Kidd theres 6 or 7 Mateen Cleaves for every Shawn Marion theres 6 or 7 Jeryl Sassers. Three of the probable top 5 players in the NBA came right from High School. Theres just as many if not more first round flops from 3 year and 4 year college athletes as there are players out of high school or there for a year. Basically, the only leg you can stand on is the "NBA says its the rule and thats that!". Because you can never prove any correlations otherwise.

    This week in the NBA

I will never take the pro age limit guys seriously when I saw 18 year old NBA players get chastized for not being ready and told that they should be forced to stay in college whereas many of the same people say nothing about Sidney Crosby being drafted at 17 and making his NHL debut at 18. I also hear people fake concern about the NBA guys saying, they arent possibly ready for the money and lifestyle, yet the Tigers give Rick Porcello a 3.5 million signing bonus at 18 and you dont hear a peep. People like college basketball and college football and they want to protect such along with a tiny hint of racism. There are many players who go pro early in every sport and is not ready. The NBA could easily remedy such by utilizing the NBDL as a true minor league, granting roster exemptions for teams sending players down (like MLB and Hockey) and if they are ready to produce right away, let them play. Michael Beasley wasted a year at Kansas State. LeBron James would have wasted a year at Ohio State. College basketball can only improve players to a certain level. When a player is surpassed that level, it is a injury risk and not much more.

Floyd Mayweather vs The Big Show

In terms of realism they could play up Elijah Burke's boxing background and have him do the run-in. It could give him a hotshot to the upper midcard for next year (assuming anyone in management cares about him). The feud writes itself and they can do some more worked boxing/wrestling/mma stuff that might actually be entertaining with two actual wrestlers. I would be more interested in Burke/Mayweather than Show/Mayweather, but the fact is Im willing to bet the Mayweather camp would be too worried that Burke might make Mayweather look bad in boxing related stuff (if Burke is as good of a boxer as he's been hyped up being prior to wrestling) so I doubt that will happen. Plus Burke is a heel still and since they panicked and turned Mayweather heel I dont think it would work. You think any heavyweight who is a step above a club fighter would go to OVW instead of going pro? Part of the spectacle is the size difference between Show and Floyd which puts doubt into the audience. That will get many to buy the PPV. It wouldnt work as well with anyone else on the roster.

    NFL Offseason Thread

Looking like we dealt Shaun Rogers to the Browns for Leigh Bodden and a third instead. I like this trade much better. Who knows what the hell Cleveland is doing trading their first 3 picks.
  5. http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/WWE_New...cle_24425.shtml After a successful decade of "SmackDown" on both UPN and The CW, World Wrestling Entertainment and The CW have agreed to conclude our partnership. Since The CW's exclusive negotiation period ran out as of last Thursday, January 31, we have been contacted and have been in negotiations with other networks. "WWE SmackDown" will continue to air on The CW until the conclusion of the 2007-08 broadcast season. We are grateful to Les Moonves, Dawn Ostroff, and their entire organization for bringing "WWE SmackDown" to millions of viewers for so many years.
  6. He is part of the reason the company is public and stayed making money even when Austin missed a year. McMahon made way more off The Rock than vice versa. Never forget that. The Rock's contract is over. He made it out of wrestling without fused vertebrae in his neck. He made it out without having to use steroids long term. He is 36 years old. When you are saying the Rock needs to come back and owes WWE and all of that bullshit, think about your favorite wrestlers that are no longer around. Think about Mick Foley who will die young and gave his health to wrestling coming out to crickets nowadays. Think about Flair period. Let the man retire.
  7. Cena is speaking for the WWE. The Rock is retired. He is 36 years old. Hes not that young man anymore. I know its a newsflash to those in the wrestling business but, sometimes people move on from the business. Thats life. Jim Brown retired from the NFL at 30. He wanted to do other things that hurt him less and paid him more. That dont mean he still dont love the Cleveland Browns and the NFL. He had to make the best life for Jim Brown and his family. Dwayne Johnson had the same choice. When John Cena has children, maybe he'll see things differently. I gotta watch my favorite wrestler as a youth still wrestling at 59 years old and its sad. Id never want The Rock to have to resort to do that.

The OaO Raw Thread for 2/25/2008.

Only if its Flair it does, given that hes 59 and is too old to wait to use his title shot. Anyone else would logically wait until they have a night off and the champion just finished having a tough match.

How to book the rest of 08

He wasn't the WWE Champion at the time, he didn't get busted by the cops, and his best friend wasn't in the passenger seat with a bag full of pain killers at the time either. He wasnt WWE champion but got the belt a mere two months after the Signature thing in his second steroid bust of 2007. He wasnt punished for a good 6 months like RVD did obviously. He was busted by the cops obviously when they broke up the fake pharmacy, only they declined to press charges. But recieving steroids in the mail is illegal right? Illegal should be illegal no matter what if they took that kind of actions against RVD. Its the same thing with the current World champion and the ECW champ who all got title pushes very soon after the signature bust.

WWE General Discussion - February 2008

I dont think Mayweather is as known as Tyson at his peak, but when you take everything in account, there is no outside celebrity save Dwayne Johnson that would be more perfect for a Mania angle than Floyd. I think he is easily a household name. You dont have 2.4 mil PPV buys for a match unless both fighters are major draws. Far different than No Limit which was a very short urban fad that had already past by the time P got to WCW.

    I see WM 25 being Cena-Taker with Taker's streak ending...feasible?

    This week in the NBA

long story short, he doesn't want to lose his bird rights to be signed over the salary cap, plain and simple. I doubt Dallas will resign him anyway though given that hes been out of the rotation most of the season, crying about wanting to be traded and then blocking it when he did get traded. The Mavs can always throw Keith Van Horn or any other guy whos rights they havent renounced in the deal to make it happen.

Devean had a 2 year contract that he signed in 2006. edit-guess not..im sure Dallas can just throw in Hassell and the Nets and throw in another bench guy to make it happen

He doesnt have a no trade clause or a trade kicker in his contract. How could he block it?

5 Euro expansion teams? That is a terrible, league crippling idea. Look at the D league rosters, look at the rosters overseas. Are there 60-75 NBA caliber players out there? Will we have to wake up at 7am to watch a Detroit-Moscow game? Most importantly, will the Europeans in England,Russia and France pay NBA season ticket prices to support the teams?

    Smackdown to leave the CW

I always thought FX would end up with a wrestling show. Whatever show NBC has on Friday night usually beat Smackdown in the ratings so I dont see that as an option. Honestly, if they dont take the steps to put Smackdown on the same level as Raw (making it live, more stars on the show), then I wouldnt mind the show going away for good.
  19. It was also Owen's choice to jump from the rafters with the faulty wires too right? "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!!??!!" applies to everyone but Vince I guess.

    Superbowl XLII

Not a report. More like a rumor from an unnamed source. News reports generally have proof or evidence of some sort.

    Superbowl XLII

Arlen's second biggest campaign contributor just happens to be Comcast. The same Comcast that just happens to be in a bitter battle with the NFL over the NFL Network. Arlen is just doing the bidding for his corporate interest.

    This week in the NBA

Mobleys bitcification of Joe Johnson had alot to do with that win too though. I wanted the 20 point loss so bad so that they would have lost by over 50 points to close out this road trip and Woodson would get fired. Then he puts in Acie Law with 6 minutes left and WHAT DO YOU KNOWii!! A 19-2 run???? Woodson is just a fucking idiot and gets outcoached nightly. I am not sure there is much you could have done with Thorton this night though. No one could really stop him. I always thought Mike would have been the perfect coach here to replace Larry. Ah well

    The 2008 Royal Rumble Thread

This year, more than any, id love a suprise winner like Austin kinda was in 1997. HHH,Batista and Taker all won it before so its kind of like ho-hum to me.
