  2. Mitt Romney says let Detroit go bankrupt

Pretty amazing to see that in the NY Times of all places!

Remember when he said he'd get all those jobs back for Detroit? I suppose this would have been his plan. Glad to see he's still a complete hypocrite outside of election seasons.

Truth be told, I don't buy these bullshit scare-tactics the CEO's of Ford, GM, and Chrysler have employed. If they file for bankruptcy, they will be forced to restructure. The jobs will come back, and the company will be better off. And we won't be asked to hand them checks anymore.

I agree with Romney's article too. Restructuring through bankruptcy is eventual, unless we're just going to cut them a check every few years. With no credit there is no market for automobiles, American or otherwise. With no market for automobiles, they will not make money. They'll go under, or we'll prop them up year after year. Pretty simple to see what needs to be done here.

Restructuring through bankruptcy won't happen, because they won't restructure. If they go bankrupt, they'll likely liquidate due to the credit market right now. And hell, let's say that they're lucky enough to actually restructure. They've been polling people, and 80% of the general public will NOT buy from a bankrupt auto maker. Yeah, that sounds like they'll really have a chance to succeed. Christ...

The fact of the matter is, they're already in the process of restructuring: Ford is already on the way (As Kotzenjunge already pointed out in the other thread), GM is looking to expand into China (A place where the Japanese can't get into because of hostile Chinese tariffs and restrictions), and... well, do what you will with Chrysler. Odds are that it'll likely be part of GM soon enough. I don't mind some government oversight: This idea that "THE GOVERNMENT SHOULDN'T BE ANYWHERE!" helped get us into this mess. Reasonable government oversight will help restore confidence in the system after it ran wild.

Unless we want to go the "ECONOMIC APOCALYPSE NOW!" because some conservatives suddenly want to return to "balanced budgets" after 8 years of fucking things up.

No matter what the Big 3 do restructuring wise, they'll always have the noose tied around their neck already by way of the Unions and the pensions of the Retired workers.

Im not going to say they should cut off the retired workers pensions, but they need to do something about Union Workers making almost double what a non union worker for Toyota at a plant in the United States makes.

  4. We (meaning the taxpayer) should maybe loan them the money, and not tell them what they should do with it.

Certainly not a handout, and certainly not interfering with their private business practices. Not interfering any more than what our government should be, anyway. We shouldn't require them to fire their board, they should not be asked to let the government be involved in approving every contract they make with suppliers. The latter requirement which has been floated around is absolutely ridiculous. The need for government rule in everything (except the market, which clearly needs rules and regulations. Like duh) has gotten out of hand. The greed populating our government is sickening. I don't know where it's going to stop. Just a one-shot deal, and tell them that's all they're getting. Let's give them the opportunity to succeed this last time, and when they fail again, let them fail. They'll rise again. I don't think we should be telling them what to do, after all, they'll just come back with the excuse that restrictions placed on the automakers is what's keeping them from succeeding.

Truth be told, I don't buy these bullshit scare-tactics the CEO's of Ford, GM, and Chrysler have employed. If they file for bankruptcy, they will be forced to restructure. The jobs will come back, and the company will be better off. And we won't be asked to hand them checks anymore.

The forclosure rate is going to go up by how many percents while you play peek a boo with the jobs?

    4.Red Wings

    5.Pistons

    6.Michigan State basketball

    You're on crack

The Red Wings are basically the Atlanta Braves here in terms of fan interest. There were scores of empty seats at Joe Louis all season and the Wings were barely a blip on the radar until the Conference Finals. The Lions had a fucking march during a losing season and has sold out every game since 2001 until this week. Any other pro sports team in Detroit would have been playing in front of crickets if they had a decade of losing like the Lions have had. The Red Wings sure did the last time they were a loser.

  6. The Packers should be seeking their trade options right now for Favre. As a Lions fan, I remember Barry wanting to come back if we traded him and the Redskins offering multiple first round picks for him and we turned it down. Barry never played again, we got nothing for it and no playoff appearances ever since. From where we stand today, Favre coming back as starter after all of this makes little sense, him coming back and being Rodgers backup while making $12 mil is unfathomable. Get something for Favre. As July turns into August and the season gets closer, there will be a bidding war of teams wanting to take the risk.

  7. It positively amazes me that people think a guy that doesn't take shots outside of 4 feet from the basket and shoots 48 percent is a good offensive player.

He is a ineffective number guy. He gets you 15 a night but it is at a low percentage considering his position and what shots he takes. He is unquestionably horrible defensively.

I don't hate 7 footers. I just don't overrate them because they are tall. I personally would rather have a effective 6'9 guy than a ineffective 7 footer.

If this was fantasy basketball you go with Kaman all day. But if you are looking for actual positive results on the court, Maxiell is the better player.

Is it anymore amazing that you are saying 6'6 260 lb PF who gets 5 rebounds a game is somehow good? Id take someone staying in the paint hitting half of their shots rather than someone content being the third jump shooting big on their team. Jason Maxiell will never be a regular starter in the NBA. If the Clippers want a young big man from the Detroit Pistons, they will want Amir Johnson.

  8. Once again, Maxiell is a much better defender than Kaman.

Second, Kaman shoots a pretty bad precentage from the field when you take into consideration where all his shots come from. He, like you said is a low post scoring center that shoots 48 percent from the field. That is what people expect from good guard. Good Centers don't shoot below 50% from the field unless they are taking alot of jumpers.

His rebounding numbers this year are clearly a abberration, ADHD or not. He has averaged under 8 rebounds 3 times in his five year career. He had one year where he was near 10 per game, then all of a sudden this year, he gets 13 a game. But like I said, when you miss 30 games, your stats are giong to be a little inflated. He was having a good all year, but seriously, Kaman is kinda just worthless.

He can't defend opposing Centers or PF's at all, he isn't a good rebounder consistantly, he shoots a low percentage for a center or a PF. He basically does what Amare and Andrew Bogut do on defense. Ignore the pick and roll, play horrid defense on their on man, but will get you a few weakside blocks per game and people seem to think he can play defense because of it.

Yeah, Jason Maxiell is undersized....and still defends bigs better than Kaman. He is just as talented a shotblocker only takes fewer chances than Kaman, he also looks better on the block.

The only faucet of the game Kaman looks better at is being tall.

Under no way, shape or form is Jason Maxiel is on the same level as Chris Kaman. The only thing Max has been his whole career with the Pistons is a spark off the bench. Its a well known fact when he plays big minutes, his size shows and his effectiveness wanes. Thats why he will never be a regular starter in the NBA. Kaman was a near all star last year. You cant be serious. If we want Chris Kaman, we would have to give up Rasheed plus another starter. A guy that averaged 12.7 rebounds over ANY 52 game stretch is a consistently good rebounder. Maxiell has had 3 games in his CAREER that was more than Kaman's rebounding average last year. Kaman also is lightyears better of an inside scorer than Maxiell. I think that would have helped a team that was at the bottom of the nba in points in the paint. Maxiell's offensive skillset is devoid of post skills. Of course if you watched the Pistons, youd know that.

  9. All joking aside, "play against Michael Jordan" is the correct answer here.

They would have lost to anyone. The games they won on the way to the finals featured them keeping the ball out of Sucky VonChokesalot hand. Stocktons three, Horney's layup, Ostertags block. All plays that fuck up would have fucked up.

The bulls doubled stockton two years in a row to force him to pass to Malone with the game on the line and he turned it over both times. That dude really did suck ass.

For people to put him in the All-Time PF list over Barkley or Mchale is embarrassing. (duncan is still a center. Fuck the spurs lineup chart)

You say Malone chokes alot, yet would put Barkley ahead of him??????? wtf?

  10. Why are the Lions open to trading Roy?

Calvin Johnson is already being paid like a superstar. Paying two WRs star money is a bit curious when the Lions let go starters at RB,DE,SSLB and RT this offseason without having suitable replacements. Lions also already have alright WRs in Furrey and McDonald. Improving the worst defense in the NFL takes draft picks so it would make perfect sense to do a deal now. But, its the Lions.
