    The NFL Offseason/Pre-Draft Thread

Why would they bother? This would be a really dumb move for the Titans considering all the holes they have and how washed up Eddie is. He was HORRIBLE for the Cowboys last year.

    Best/Worst songs for commencments/senior sendoffs/

We had "I Will Remember You" as well, which was pathetic because 1) it's so cliche, and 2) the class the year before us used the exact same song. We looked like a bunch of fucking copycats. My nomination was the Green Acres theme song, which would have been appropriate in so many ways. Sadly, it only got two votes.

Senate to Vote on Minimum Wage

I won't deny that a credit card is very tempting, nor am I going to say that I haven't used one to delay paying for an item until the end of the month. And I'm aware college campuses are loaded with credit card applications as I was bombarded with them constantly while in school. But do you know how easy it was to just tear them up and throw them away? Takes 2 seconds. Why are we talking only about stupid teenagers and college students though? Though I have no statistics in front of me to say one way or another, I'd be willing to bet that a good chunk, if not a clear majority, of outstanding balances are not made up of stupid teenagers and college students. Just here in my office, there are at least three families knee deep in credit card debt (among other types of debt) because they constantly take weekend road trips, buy lift kits for their pickup, and eat out five nights a week. Is THAT the credit card companies' fault? And what is the alternative? Do we want to make some sort of law that says you have to be 25, married, and have $10,000 saved in the bank before you can get a card? Who should they offer credit cards to? While the credit card companies are not totally blameless in all this mess, the number of people failing to accept responsibility for their own actions (and the number of others supporting their doing so) is disturbing. I guess I'm just tired of seeing dumbasses using the cards as a tool to live a lifestyle they can't afford. I pity those folks whose medical bills or job loss forces them into debt (a compeletely different situation altogether), but I just can't support people getting off the hook for their own irresponsible behavoir that is nobody's fault but their own.

Senate to Vote on Minimum Wage

But they still don't force those stupid teenagers or college students (or anyone else) to actually use their cards, just as they don't force those people to apply for the card. Their offering a card is just that: an offer. The individual has to decide whether to accept it or not. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the individual that made the conscious decision to obtain the card and then use it. It's ridiculous to me that people think it's the company's fault they got themselves in trouble. It's no less aburd than a fat ass blaming McDonald's for making him fat. And, just speaking from my own experience, MBNA actually is more selective than other companies. They made me get a signed letter from the HR department of my company stating I was employed and made at least X amount of money before they authorized my new account.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

I don't see Texas missing the Tournament. Even if they lose their last two and bow out in the first round of the Big 12 tourney (which I don't think they will), they'd still be 19-11, with a .500 record in a major conference. I think that'd be good enough.

Anyone Going After Cubs vs. Red Sox Tickets?

I'm flying to Denver in August to see the Cubs play the Rockies after they spend the first half of that week here, playing the Astros. I've got tickets to all three games here and two more in Denver, so I'm going to be broke after that week is over with. It's not Wrigley, but I'll take it.

    Thinking about buying an iPod

Go for the 40 GB model, if it's available in your area. I picked one up at Best Buy this past Friday, and it was only $10 more ($229) than the 30 GB model. I've been rather pleased with it thus far in the limited time I've had to play with it. It just doesn't make much sense to me to pay almost $100 more for an iPod while getting half the storage space Creative gives you.

    I passed my driving test!

$450 a year?? Damn, what company do you have? I pay that for 6 months and I'm approaching old man status.

    NHL to Cancel Season

I'm not a hockey fan in any way really, but I understand that if they play, the season will be, what, 30 games + regular playoffs? What's the point of that? How can you determine anything in a 32-team league by playing only 30 games?

They make minimum wage, right? I used to NEVER tip pizza guys until my cousin delivered for Papa John's for a while and explained why I should. They get something from me everytime now.

    Dynasty?

I agree. If anything, wouldn't it be harder to win with fewer teams in a league simply because the collective talent of each team would be much stronger and thus the level of competition higher?
  17. sfaJack

    Dynasty?

Wrong. They are NOT even with the Cowboys. Ahem. Are you not aware that the Cowboys have five Super Bowl wins as well? In fact, if you look strictly at number of Super Bowls, the Cowboys are the greatest franchise of the Super Bowl era because they've been to nine of them. I don't believe any other team is even close to that.

    Favorite Superbowl Commercials?

Terry Tate was a good one. I wish we'd hire that guy to take care of some of the dead weight around my office. I also really liked the one where the zebra was reviewing a replay while the horses all stood around waiting to run the next play. I think it was a Budweiser commercial, but I don't remember that part of it.

    It's National Signing Day.....

Well Mack Brown just lost the #1 recruit to LSU. Les Miles steps into LSU and screws Texas after years of losing to them in the Big XII. It was probably more Saban's doing in the long run but Miles had to close the deal. Can you blame him for going to LSU, who has no proven starting QB, over Texas, who has 2 more years of Vince Young? Perriloux (or however you spell it) has a better opportunity at LSU; it has nothing to do with Mack Brown blowing it.

The good news for Astro fans: Lance Berkman avoids arbitration and signs a one year deal worth 10.5 mil. The bad news for Astro fans: Lance Berkman signs only a one year deal. EDIT: Harley just beat me to it...

    Super Bowl XXXIX discussion thread

See, I disagree. It seems to me that the level of fan interest in a sport is rarely higher than when there is a strongly hated team playing for the championship consistently. People want to see them lose so badly that they tune in or spend money on tickets to see it. Why do you think the Yankees sell a lot of tickets when they go on the road?

    Super Bowl XXXIX discussion thread

I hate parity for two reasons. 1. It's fun to hate dynasties if it isn't your team. On the other hand, it's fun to bask in them if it is your team. 2. Parity has resulted in so many one-shot playoff teams and/or Super Bowl champions that it's pathetic. You'd think that you'd want your best teams to at least have SOME staying power. Now I'm not saying we HAVE to have teams winning 2 of 3 Super Bowls, but it'd be nice to see more than a couple of them sustain their success for more than one year.

    Randy Moss to the Raiders

How about Priest Holmes straight up for Moss? Moss would give KC the receiver threat they've been lacking, and with Larry Johnson and Derrick Blaylock, they shouldn't miss Priest all that much. Of course, it does nothing for their defense, but I think it's a little intriguing.
