    This week in the NBA

I'm going to the Rockets/Warriors game on Friday. Thank God the tickets were free.

kkk NFL Pick 'em Week 14

I'm not sure we could have more 7-6 teams in the AFC if we tried. I have no idea how I'm in playoff contention (much less first place), given my horrible PF total, but I'll take it. Pure luck, probably. I really need Tyler to beat Tom for tiebreaker purposes, too, so go Steelers.

Nationals future in D.C. already in doubt

MLB better think long and hard about taking this deal, if only for the fact that they don't have too many other choices when it comes to relocation.
  4. It's been widely reported that he is indeed recieving profit from the company, nevermind his buddies will be reaping the benefits. Prove it, you fucking retard. It's been "widely reported" by the lunatics who don't know shit about Halliburton and are just desperately hoping that something they throw against the wall will stick to demonize Bush/Cheney. Dick Cheney severed his ties to Halliburton (earlier than he was required to do so, by the way) way back in 2000 before the first election. The compensation he gets is GUARANTEED REGARDLESS OF WHETHER HALLIBURTON MAKES A SINGLE DOLLAR OR NOT. They make $100 million? He gets paid his compensation. They go bankrupt? He gets in line with the other creditors to collect his compensation. Yeah, you do realize that what differentiates Halliburton from Bechtel and Schlumberger is KBR, the unit that is actually doing the work for Halliburton, right? Bechtel and Schlumberger don't have a unit like KBR. Brown & Root (which is now KBR) did the work after the first Gulf War, and are now owned by Halliburton. If Halliburton didn't have KBR, they wouldn't be a player in repairing Iraq and we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

    MLB Winter Meetings

Tim Purpura said this morning that he thinks January 8 will be the Astros' drop-dead date with Carlos Beltran. At that point, if he's in, he's in and if he's not, he's not.

    What do you collect?

Loose change. At last count, I had over $600.

For the 4th time in 5 Years

In the very first game of the year, so take it with a grain of salt. A&M played much better every week after that. And barely losing to Miami on the road is better than beating an overrated A&M team at home. You're out of your mind. Cal and OU would beat Utah, and probably fairly easily.

    The Official Rose Bowl Thread

I find Rodgers' comments to be no less whiny than Mack's. It's pretty easy to sit back and say "Oh, we'd obviously be more classy about it" when it's after the fact. I guarantee you that if the roles had been reversed and it was Cal who trailed Texas going into the final week (and with no games left), Mr. Rodgers and his friends would be doing the same thing Mack did. Period. ...and? They only had to play this week because of a hurricane. If not for a freaking hurricane, they'd have been just as vocal as Texas about the whole thing and you know it. Would the end result have been the same? Who knows. We'll never know. People continue to lay the blame on Mack when it's obviously the voters that should bear the burden since they're the ones who changed things. They're supposed to be objective and fair, right? If that's really the case, then let Mack campaign all he wants because it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

    The Official Rose Bowl Thread

I don't get people bashing Mack Brown for his campaigning. What the hell is he supposed to do, just sit back and accept whatever fate he's handed? His team is deserving of the BCS, and, as the head coach, it's his job to do all he can to get them there. Whether it works or not is out of his hands, but don't kill him for trying to get the best opportunity for his team. Aaron Rodgers just needs to shut the hell up. If Cal had hung onto the fourth spot, he wouldn't have said a word about any of this. I guess it makes for a nice crutch, though.

    The Official Rose Bowl Thread

Exactly. Everyone bitching about how Cal got screwed needs to realize that the real problem of the BCS is the fact that either Texas or Cal was going to get screwed, and that it was going to be an injustice to whichever school got the snub (in this case, Cal). BOTH teams deserve to go, and most certainly deserve to go ahead of Pitt...and probably ahead of Utah as well. I'd have ZERO problem with Cal/Michigan in the Rose and Utah/Texas in the Fiesta. You can make many arguments for both Texas and Cal to get the bid, and it is impossible to say that CLEARLY one deserves to go ahead of the other, the same as it is impossible to say that CLEARLY USC and OU are better than Auburn and deserve to play in the championship game. Lay the blame at the feet of the poll voters, as they're the reason Texas is in the Rose Bowl. It's funny; the ones bitching about the pollsters lifting Texas to the Rose Bowl are many of the same ones that bitched last year when USC got squeezed out and demanded that the polls have a greater impact in the BCS rankings. Now they want the opposite...

For the 4th time in 5 Years

... Anyway, everyone bitching about how Cal got screwed or Texas got some favoritsm is overlooking the fact that neither Utah or Pitt deserves to go to a BCS bowl over EITHER of them. I think Cal and Texas would both beat Utah if they played tomorrow, and I think we can all agree that Pitt is pretty undeserving of a BCS payday. The fact that either Cal or Texas got screwed any way you sliced it, to me, is the second biggest injustice in this year's BCS mess (the biggest being a 12-0 team having no shot at the national title, of course).

    A playoff in I-A football

And an undefeated Mountain West team deserves a shot? Boise is the same situation as Utah, really. If Utah can get in such a playoff, Boise deserves the same chance as well based on this argument. Rampaging over the Mountain West is no great shakes, but how is it really better than destroying the WAC?

Breaking News: Urban Meyer accepts Florida job

I think if Notre Dame finishes in the top 6, they get a guaranteed spot, just as any non-BCS conf. school does.

    The Sports Confessional

Despite being a big Cubs fan, I rooted hard for Roger Clemens this last season.

    And So it Begins

Didn't see this posted anywhere: Houston Chronicle says that the Astros are preparing/have made an initial offer to Beltran for 6 years, $81 million. The Astros are denying this. The Astros have also supposedly offered Jeff Kent a 1-year deal for $5-6 mil; Kent is demanding a guaranteed second year, which the Astros are so far refusing because they're thinking Chris Burke will play in '06.

    BCS Week 6 Standings

And Utah wouldn't get beat by many of the Top 25? I have a serious problem with them being ranked as high as they are. They're a very good team, no doubt, and have done all they can with the schedule they had, but they've got exactly one win that you can count as a quality win and it was, at home, against an overrated A&M team. To put them in the top 5 is ridiculous. Cal, Texas, and Georgia would all beat Utah, and you can probably throw Miami and Louisville into that group as well.

    PETA campaigns against eating fish

I think he ate the hamburger in front of a bunch of folks on a hunger strike, but either way it's still an awesome, assholish thing to do.

    And So it Begins

Percival already has a WS ring. I don't blame him for grabbing one final big payday. He'll probably be out of the game in a few years...might as well make all the money he can. Kudos, Troy.

    Clear Channel stupidity..

There are now 16 Spanish stations in Houston. I'd love to hear someone from Clear Channel explain how there can possibly be a market for that many. I guess "the growing Hispanic demographic" means you have to ignore all the other ones. RIP KLOL; it wasn't a great station, but it was definitely the best of the lot. I guess it's even more sports talk for me now. Indeed. And to further that point, anyone who actually likes Big & Rich is a fucking retard.

Fahrenheit 9/11 sequel on the way

My God, that's... 455.5 Oddly enough, that's also the number of cupcakes that Mikey had for breakfast today.

    Now they've fucking done it

They can't be any worse than the Home Alone sequels.

    LOL He wont give up

I just don't see any purpose to this film (other than money, duh). The whole point of F 9/11 was to get people not to vote for Bush, but now since Bush can't run again if he wanted to, why even bother with this film? Is ANYONE going to care about this in 2007? I am anticipating Moore's new health care movie though...but only if he includes highlights from his stomach-stapling surgery.
