I just heard on the radio that Barkley has turned ABC down. Supposedly, his quote was "The only thing I know about football is the point spreads."

What's up with your life right now?

So Mandy's available again? Can I call her? -
It's not rooting for them to be embarrassed. It's giving a guy his due for having an amazing night. This is what, the 16th perfect game in history? You don't get much more historical than that. Hell, I hate the Yankees, but I was pulling hard in the final innings for David Cone when he tossed his a few years ago. And I'd do the same if someone did it to the Cubs.

Whoa. That's a nice little bit of trivia. Baseball is such a strange game sometimes.

I just love how Skip Caray said something like "fans getting into this one" in a rather flat tone...almost as if he thought there's something wrong with cheering the opposing pitcher for THAT. Hell, if you can't appreciate that kind of effort or realize the history you're witnessing, you aren't a baseball fan.

Randy Johnson has a no-trade clause. I think I'd be surprised if he waived it.

I think Wagner's been using that since '96 or '97, so unless Rivera's use of it dates back that far (wasn't the closer in '96, IIRC), screw Mariano Rivera.

Phil Simms didn't play in SB XXV. Jeff Hostetler did.

Your obsession with Jimmy Haynes is kind of creepy.

Al, do you think it might ever be possible to build a consistent winner in Colorado (not a one-year fluke)? I don't know if it ever could happen...that place is just too dangerous for pitchers.

Any of the Police Academy movies, except Mission to Moscow. The Disney version of Robin Hood also.

Sheets's pitch count today: 116 pitches, 91 strikes. That's incredible. Braves never had a chance.

How in the fuck did the Astros lose that game today? That was probably the most one-sided extra inning game I've ever seen. Total choke job. Oh well...Cubs up 4-2 in the 8th. I smell a tied NL Central race!

Estes GOOD?? 6.70 ERA, .284 BA against him, 20 BB's and only 19 K's is GOOD? As I said, I'd be for this trade too, but only if they sign Beltran long-term as part of the deal. What's the point of trading Patterson if you have no one to replace him with if Beltran walks away? Farnsworth could get smacked by the El tomorrow and I wouldn't be that upset. The only downside would be that that might bring about the return of Michael Wurtz, who is worse.

I was saddened to see the Broncos upset the Packers in the SB that year, but the Pack had it coming to them after all their ridiculous "We're going 19-0!" bullshit before that season even began.

The Cubs could probably afford most anybody they really wanted to. The Tribune Company just doesn't free-wheel with the checkbook like the Yankees do. Their payroll is high though. And you forget that guys like Prior, Zambrano, and Patterson are still pretty cheap because they just don't have the years of service for arbitration eligibility or anything like that. That works for me, but only if they sign Beltran to a multi-year deal before the trade is executed, or at least have an agreement with Beltran on a contract offer.

It's not a stupid move. You don't walk Piazza in that situation and bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Rather, you depend on your supposed stud closer to get the out, especially with a 1-2 count. Don't get me wrong...I (as a Cubs' fan and certified Astro-hater) was THRILLED to see Piazza hit that homer. But don't blame Jimy Williams for that. I think he made the right call. The bigger thing bugging me about this Mets/Astros game is that it should already be over, with the Mets winning. The umps BLEW that fucking call at second base in the sixth inning when Ensberg came off the bag and Garcia held the tag on him. If they'd gotten that call right, the Astros' second run never would have scored and the game would have been over on the Piazza homer. The umpiring this season is some of worst I've ever seen.

Who would TAKE the Hawks job? I mean, really...why would you?

Yeah, Biggio should have caught that ball. I didn't think he would get to it, but he did and then basically dropped it. Should have been out #1, but the Astros' below average centerfielder cost them the tying run. That's Moneyball, too: below average defense doesn't hurt you very much. It's a flawed philosophy, in my opinion. Craig Biggio playing centerfield is fine in a 10-2 game, but Craig Biggio in centerfield in a 2-1 game is disaster waiting to happen. If he doesn't drop that ball, I think the Marlins don't win because Nunez never would have made it around - they didn't get another hit off Dotel after the triple. Regardless, the Astros lost and the Cubs won, so I'm happy.

My list of stadiums visited is rather small, so my choices are limited. I don't see how I can rate a stadium if I've never been there, so my list will have to do. Baseball: Wrigley Field, no question. I'm probably biased being a Cubs fan, but I can't imagine any MLB experience topping the two days I spent at Wrigley. I've been to Minute Maid Park several times, but that place just has too many retarded quirky things (the train and the hill, for starters) to be the best. The Astrodome is another I've been to, but it was nothing great in the 80's/90's when I was there. Football: I've only been to Reliant Stadium and Texas Stadium, and despite my Cowboys' fandom, Reliant wins. Basketball: Toyota Center is pretty neat, but my opinion might be inflated because I was sitting third row courtside (directly behind the Rockets' owner) at mid-court.

Inspired by the news that Deion Sanders has been fired, I thought this might be an interesting poll. Personally, I vote CBS, especially without Deion. Fox and ESPN are too full of their own shit.

Sorry to hear that man. I broke my leg about 7 years ago. It's no picnic. Good luck with all the rehabbing ahead of you.

Hallelujah, unger's gone. We need to ban people for stupidity more often. He crossed the line between entertaining crackpot and annoying psychopath a long time ago.

My memory's probably getting fuzzy on this, but wasn't Kobe crying like a little bitch because he wanted to be in LA and not Charlotte? I seem to remember him bascially holding the Hornets hostage on that one, but I might be confused on the whole thing.

I remember six or seven years ago when you got it for $0.75 a gallon here. THAT was a sweet deal.
