Because he's "great with the young pitching staff." That's the accepted line here, for whatever reason. Anyway, according the sports radio here, the Astros aren't saying how much money the deal is for, but that "sources" indicate it's $2 mil per year. Seems a bit high for a guy who can't hit .230 with just about zero power, but it's certainly more reasonable than the $5.5 mil they paid him last year.

Damn it. I eat at all those places except Arby's (don't like it) and Hardee's (don't have one near me). Guess I need some new places to go.

One of the Houston radio stations is saying that Rudy Tomjanovich might be contacted for the job. Don't know how accurate this is, but that's what they mentioned this afternoon.

It's a fake, I believe. Check snopes.com; I think I saw this story (or one very similar) there.

Well if the Giants can deal with Bonds/Kent and all their bullshit, I imagine Pierzynski won't be a problem.
-
I think if I were a teacher these days, I'd be hooked on drugs too. How else would you cope with all the bullshit you're forced to put up with?

No, a game against the Braves just before the All-Star break. Prior was running to second and he collided with that little pissant Marcus Giles, injuring his shoulder and shelving him for nearly a month. EDIT: Damn it Al, you're too quick.

I don't think so. I don't believe wins against non-DI schools count towards bowl eligibility.

It was always hilarious to me that SI would pick a team led by STEVE BONO and a decidedly over-the-hill Marcus "Not a Hall of Famer" Allen to go to the Super Bowl. They must have all smoked a big old bowl of some really good shit when they did that.

While working at a grocery store deli in college, it came to one of my female coworker's attention that I was being paid $6 an hour while she was only making $5.50. She had been working there for over two years, and, at this time, I had been there a little more than 2 months (note: I was hired at $6). She threw a fit, and even went to our store director, demanding a raise to at least equal of my pay. They humored her, filled out a couple of forms and even conducted a performace review of her, before deciding that she was a lazy bitch (she was) who did nothing but bitch about how horrible it was to work there (which she did) and denied her the raise. Within about three weeks, they reassigned her fat ass to the gas station booth outside, where she sat all alone, with no one to bitch to. And she was still making $5.50 an hour.

When people realize that she has absolutley ZERO talent. I thought the world had already figured that out...

Pinjockey - yes, trying the onside kick again. It worked once...it's probably not gonna work again, regardless of whoever's patrolling the Dallas sideline. I agree that even if it works, it's a horrible idea. Parcells even said after the game that they were "ready" for it. Reid had a major brainfart there.
-
Yeah, what the FUCK was Andy Reid smoking to think that the onside kick would be a good idea?

Another bitter Patriots fan, huh? I would love to see that. I don't recall anyone ever claiming the Cowboys were going to win the Super Bowl. Nobody worthy of being taken seriously, anyway. Hell, I love the Cowboys (no sense in denying it), but I think their chances of winning anything major this year are rather small. The Bucs can still play when they want to, and the Cowboys were due to lose because, oh my gosh, THEY'RE NOT A GREAT TEAM. As for the Falcons' loss...well, I guess maybe it was first-game jitters or something. It happens. Houston took down Miami on opening day, after all. @ New England Carolina Miami @ Philly THAT'S not a killer schedule?? Those four games, in consecutive weeks? Geez man, your standards are pretty high. I won't even mention having to close the season with the Giants (who always seem to have it together that time of year) and Saints (you never know how good they will be on a given day) because it'd be lunacy to count those as tough games by your logic. No argument here.
-
That's nuts. 8-8 (if they actually fall that far) with the Cowboys' talent is a damn fine job. In the end, depending on how the season plays out, it might be a little short of Coach of the Year honors, but to take away from Parcells for going 8-8 is lunacy. Seriously....unless the Chiefs go 15-1 (or, dare I say, 16-0), Parcells is very deserving of Coach of the Year. Why? Because 8-8 with the Cowboys, to me, would be a bigger achievement than winning the division with KC. The Chiefs were a decent team last year (8-8, if memory serves correct)...the Cowboys were one of the worst in the league for three straight, and they still have a lot of the same personnel this year. Throw in the Chiefs' relatively cupcake schedule (versus the Murderers' Row the Cowboys appear to be entering), and it's a no-brainer.

The drops haven't exactly crippled the offense or anything. And it seems every time they do drop a ball or make a bad play, they come up with a great one to balance it out. If the drops were a huge problem, they wouldn't be 7-2. The Cowboys have more pressing needs than receiver (i.e. running back, pass rush). I'd rather see them address those first. It's not necessarily a bad move if they were to sign Johnson, but they really don't need him.

Hurrah. No drama, and no controversy here. Both guys certainly deserve it. I suppose the bitter Red Sox Nation will raise hell over Grady getting 19 points, though.

The average temperature in Boise in January is 11 degrees versus 9 degrees in December! Seriously though, do teams even want to play there? I know the AD's do because they still get some money, but Boise in January is hardly a reward. A couple of years ago, Texas A&M was in line to be invited to the Humanitarian Bowl. The rumor was that they would in fact turn the invitation down because the bowl didn't pay enough for them to justify the trip up to Boise. I believe they ended up getting invited to the galleryfurniture.com bowl (now Houston bowl) instead, which they of course took. So I doubt that any team that would have to travel a great distance would be interested, unless they're just DYING to play in a bowl game.
-
Nah, the Cowboys are pretty set at receiver. Why does everyone seem to think that they need help there?? Galloway, Bryant, and Glenn are one of the best trios in the league. THE COWBOYS DO NOT NEED RECEIVER HELP. An upgrade at running back would be more prudent.
-
So Willis wins, huh? He's a pretty underwhelming choice, considering how he fizzled after his rather impressive 9-1 start. Brandon Webb was nails all year; where is the respect for him?? I guess playing for the world champs (despite pitching poorly in the postseason) and having a funky delivery is enough to win the award these days.

If that's true, then I won't be using any this (or any other pay service if they're all the same way) until they make 320 kbps available. I'm willing to accept a 128 kbps file off Kazaa, but if I'm paying for it, then I sure as hell better be getting a top-quality file.

Don't be mad at just Fox about that. ALL of the networks do the exact same thing. You should instead be mad at Fox for showing those goddamn promos for Skin during EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK. That's why I didn't watch; their constant promotion of the show just pissed me off to no end and left me with zero desire to see the show, and I'd wager that thousands of other people felt the same way. Add that in with the fact that Fox, during the baseball playoffs, constantly crammed an extra Skin/Joe Millionaire promo in during commercial breaks, thus overlapping actual game action (i.e. they suddenly cut back to the game with the count already 0-1 on the hitter), and I was left one pissed off viewer. I actually wanted to see this show fail because of that.

I guess America just didn't care that HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not diggin' the logo that much, but the uniforms are pretty nice. The sand color could be a little bit lighter (are they trying to tie in the San Diego beaches or something???), but otherwise they're not too bad.
