WWE General Discussion - November 2007

WWE® Opens New Developmental Territory in Tampa, Fla. Monday November 19, 10:52 am ET STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--World Wrestling Entertainment® is proud to announce the formation of Florida Championship Wrestling, a new training center for future WWE Superstars. The official developmental territory is scheduled to be fully operational by December 2007. “Florida Championship Wrestling will serve as a training ground for the WWE Superstars and Divas of the future,” said John Laurinaitis, Senior Vice President, Talent Relations. “FCW is building a top-notch facility in the heart of Tampa Bay that has the capacity to groom our vast crop of rising Superstars.” FCW’s training facility is being expanded to 10,000 square feet, and will include a 300-seat arena. The rejuvenated training facility will also host a weekly show in front of a live audience to be broadcast for regional television. Currently, the facility operates with four rings in which it trains 35 contracted athletes. WWE plans to increase that number to more than 60 in the near future. WWE has contracted with WWE Legend and former Superstar Steve Keirn to operate the territory. WWE trainer Tom Prichard will oversee all talent training. FCW is located at 4535 S Dale Mabry Rd in South Tampa. More information is available at fcwwrestling.com. Additional information on World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWE - News) can be found at wwe.com and corporate.wwe.com. For information on our global activities, go to http://www.wwe.com/worldwide/ I think that explains the thoughts on OVW possibly being phased out with FCW becoming the #1 spot.

They also did Hogan/Taker when Hogan was back in 2002 I believe..... He'll never work with HBK or HHH, they despise him, especially HBK.....I think you could get some Edge matches...he might actually be better off on Smackdown considering all the Raw stuff... He also worked with Orton his last time back and the WWE didn't like that because he refused to job.

    - Matt Hardy's Appendix burst actually had him on his death bed. If he didn't get to the hospital in time he could have died due to the toxins poisoning his body. As reported he is expected to be out for 3 months then return to continue his feud with MVP until Wrestlemania. - There is brief talk about putting MVP in a short feud with Jeff Hardy.

Yeah, provided you could get past them making you do 500 squats in a row, and many other "exercises" which would have Amnesty International up in arms if we tried them at Guantanemo. Plus you had to pay a fee, forget how much exactly, but something like a couple hundred bucks. Basically, if you weren't already a serious pro athlete, you didn't have a chance. In his book Batista trashes the Power Plant and the trainer down there Buddy Lee Parker, saying that it was total garbage and they purposely did shit to run guys off. He calls Parker a total piece of shit assshole and then wonders how many guys that could have been something that the Power Plant ran off.

  19. Kurt Angle vs. Yuji Nagata for the IWGP V-2 Title has been added to the Tokyo Dome show on January 4th, above Tomko & A-Train vs. the Steiners, and Abyss vs. Manabu Nakanishi. So after all this time, it finally comes out that New Japan and Antonio Inoki were working together all along as it regards the Inoki Genome Federation. Inoki started the group in June of this year, having supposedly severed all ties with New Japan, and promoted Brock Lesnar as his champion. Lesnar had won the New Japan version of the IWGP Title, but due to issues with the company he walked out. He took the belt with him and ended up working for Inoki as IWGP Champion, which of course New Japan did not recognize (Hiroshi Tanahashi won the belt from Giant Bernard in the tournament, and the current champion is Hiroshi Tanahashi, who beat, coincidentally, Nagata in October). Brock defended the belt against Kurt Angle on the debut show and lost, so Angle took the belt with him to TNA. Strangely, there were never any lawsuits threatened by New Japan. So now that Kurt is defending the belt on a New Japan show and the Inoki side isn't threatening a lawsuit, well, that answers that question. If Nagata wins, New Japan can do a Tanahashi vs. Nagata rematch with both titles on the line to unify the belts again and I guess, if you care about that sort of thing, restore the damaged lineage. Very weird situation. The Wrestling Society X DVD is out, covering season 1, which happened to be the first and last season. It's a four-disc set and includes the never-before-seen season finale, tons of extras, explosions, etc. Read the funniest thing ever, the proposed wrestling rules from the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. It was the weirdest thing you ever saw, this strange mix of work and shoot, and it made for fabulous reading. The money issues are going to really hurt the indies in the area. Promoters must get licensed; provide a $10,000 security bond; notify the commission of the time, date and location of an event at least ten days in advance; pay the 5% of gross revenue within ten days of the conclusion of the event; and have a physician at ringside, an ambulance and 2 EMTs on hand. As far as rules, "Wrestlers MAY NOT deliberately cut themselves and all wrestlers must be over (18) years of age"; "No one under the age of 18 is allowed in any area of the venue other than their seat except when accompanied by a guardian"; they must pay $100 for a commission representative to be present (!!!); they have to announce changes to the advertised card before the show starts and offer refunds; wrestlers can not physically or verbally threaten any member of the audience. There were all sorts of rules about what guys can and cannot wear. Your gear must be clean. I'd have been kicked out Chikara Sunday. You may wear 2 pairs of trunks one over the other. No grease, lotion or foreign substances on the body. Female wrestlers must wear trunks and a top. "The inspector present at the event may disallow the use of inappropriate attire or disqualify a wrestling participant for the lack of appropriate attire." YOU MUST HAVE REAL GEAR. You also must have your fingernails trimmed close. There are lots of instructions about the barriers required. It's like God giving Noah the blueprints for the ark. And then we get to the fun stuff, a legitimate RULEBOOK OF WRESTLING. Matches have a maximum 60 minute time limit. A wrestling contest shall be determined by one fall or best of three falls. "A fall is scored by a wrestler when the wrestler’s opponent has both shoulders touching the mat for a count of three (3) seconds. The referee shall signal the wrestler scoring a fall by immediately slapping the mat." Someone clearly got confused when writing these rules. A two minute rest period is allowed between falls. Also, it's now a TEN COUNT in Georgia for breaking a hold, not five. That's extreme. You can't inhibit breathing by covering the nose and mouth at the same time. "Unsportsmanlike or physically dangerous conduct" -- not allowed. If you keep it up, you must be disqualified. No blading, but you may use blood capsules. Seriously. "If a wrestler refuses or is physically unable to continue a match, the match shall be ended and the decision awarded to the wrestler’s opponent." Ever wondered what a tag match is? Well, it's "a contest between two (2) teams each composed of two (2) or more wrestlers." Let's get more specific: "A tag team contest shall be conducted as follows: The contest shall begin with one (1) wrestler from each team inside the ring while the respective partners remain outside the ring on the apron; The wrestler(s) outside the ring may not enter the ring unless a fall is scored or his/her partner has tagged his/her hand; In order to be eligible to receive a tag, the wrestler’s partner shall be outside the ring on the apron in the proper corner with both feet on the ring apron and only receive the tag over the top ring rope; When the tag is made, the wrestler making the tag shall leave the ring as the partner enters the ring; Only two (2) wrestlers from opposing teams shall be permitted to be in the ring at any one (1) time; After the scoring of a fall a wrestler may relieve the partner; If a wrestler is unable to continue; the wrestler’s partner shall continue the contest alone; The referee may call time after an injury to permit the injured wrestler to be removed from the ring; and Release the rope provided in the team corner until officially tagged by the partner." I am not making any of this up. A wrestler may have a second accompany him to the ring, but if the second interferes he can be ejected. Refs must be properly attired within 30 minutes of bell time and must "enforce the regulations of the commission". Matt Cross is off the ROH tour officially with his torn groin. Boy that sucks, because he was really looking forward to it. The final big CMLL match of the year, Sin Piedad (No Mercy), takes place December 7th with possibly Shocker vs. Hijo Del Perro Aguayo in a hair vs. mask match on top. The World Boxing Council promoted a match between Hijo del Santo and Kawashima this week to determine the group's Honorary Wrestling Champion. It took place at the Mall of Asia for the WBC's 45th annual convention. Three guesses who won. Santo gave his bloody match to WBC President Jose Sulaiman and his son Mauricio afterwards ROH MAN UP~! debuts on In Demand, Dish Network and TVN on November 30th credit:F4W Newsletter

It was on another board.......I'd say take it with a bit of a grain of salt but they haven't exactly been thrilled with OVW lately. From the Tony Atlas shit and all sorts of shit going on there. OVW is in some major trouble. HHH and Shawn Michaels visited OVW last month and sent a very negative report back to Vince about what they saw. Today, WWE sent out a press release announcing that their Florida territory was their number 1 training ground. Internally, this was seen as a major slap in the face to OVW and a clear sign that they better shape up or they will be removed as DSW was a few months ago.

WWE General Discussion - November 2007

Bobby Rush, who is on one of the two panels that is investigating WWE, announced that his House Energy and Commerce subcommittee would hold a hearing on performance enhancing drugs in baseball and other sports, including pro-wrestling, in early 2008. The announcement came the day after Barry Bonds was indicted, so that was likely the thing that turned the tide in all of this. "Given recent developments - the impending Mitchell report and reports of widespread abuse in professional wrestling - I believe it's time we get a formal update on what progress is being made to eradicate steroids from all sports and sports entertainment," Rush said. "A criminal investigation found evidence of the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by Bonds and others and led to the indictment of Bonds," said fellow subcommittee member Cliff Stearns to the Baltimore Sun. "I am still concerned that MLB does not have in place a sound policy addressing steroid use in the sport. I believe that another hearing should be held if the Mitchell report [on steroids in baseball] or the Bonds trial shows the use of steroids and other drugs among baseball players." It's an interesting situation, because obviously they have to focus more on baseball, the mainstream sport, but that pushes wrestling, which has a much larger problem (tons of people dying) than baseball (guys are failing tests), out of the forefront. The belief is that the other committee (Henry Waxman and Tom Davis) has not completely given up on the idea of scheduling hearings, but they're going to wait until this first set wraps up to see how it goes Phil Astin, who is totally broke, has asked to be allowed to return to work. No ruling has been made either way yet. Chris Masters on The Shoot radio show said he was one of the twelve wrestlers suspended in the Signature Pharmacy case, so he took a month off to train and get healthy. He claimed he was tested three times that week and one of the tests came back positive, which surprised him. One test out of three? How the smurf does that work? He said John Lauranitis sent him the info telling him he was done for 60 days, and as soon as he saw the CNN special he knew he was smurfed. And he was right. There was a major incident backstage at the Smackdown tapings. Miz and Morrison were sent out to do commentary on the CM Punk vs. Jamie Noble match, and they talked over themselves and yelled at each other and it became so heated that they paid no attention to the match whatsoever. Later, they teamed up against MVP & Matt Hardy and apparently the work was horrible. So backstage, JBL laced into them about both issues, telling them they owed everyone involved an apology. Apparently Miz was fine with this but Morrison apologized to the guys and told JBL to mind his own business. According to one source, he actually shoved him. Seriously. There was nearly a killing, but it was broken up. No idea what this will mean for Morrison's future, but things like this usually aren't good. Although Game Plan is still kicking ass with nearly $90 million in domestic earnings, it's not all good news for Dwayne Johnson. Southland Tales also debuted this weekend to bitter reviews. Roger Ebert, who loves Rock, gave it one star and said it was actually worse than the terrible version that got booed out of Cannes. Rock did some interviews that were so funny since he clearly knew the film sucked and didn't want to ruin his own credibility by saying otherwise. credit:F4W Newsletter

    Smackdown Spoilers for Nov 23rd...

There are also reports that say the Nasties acted like returning heroes and gave no respect to their opponents, to the point of stiffing them for no reason and making them look bad. They also took too long for the match, giving very little time for the crew to set the ring for ECW. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that's just the way Knobbs and Saggs were trained. I mean they really are old school late 80's/early 90's gimmicks and look who they all worked with. Guys who were brought up that way as well. So I wouldn't doubt if that happen or not but I don't know, I just don't see Knobbs or Saggs just stiffing guys to prove something. Wait..their match took place before the ECW set up, not before Smackdown? Don't dark matches normally go before anything airs or tapes except for those special dark main event matches? That doesn't make sense to me. No no, it happened before Smackdown. The point is that their match took so long it made the Smackdown taping before ECW run long hence the problems changing over before you are going to go Live with ECW.
