    Memorable/Favourite

---Whenever Jesse would call Tito Santana "Chico" Santana, and talk about his "Latin Temper". ----WrestleMania 8--Tito hits Shawn Michaels with the "El Paso De Muerte" fist drop, which Gorilla calls correctly. Heenan responds, "What was that? Extra Hot Pace Picante?" ------Later that same show, at the beginning of the Tatanka/Martel match, Heenan is hysterical over Savage beating Flair. Gorilla keeps egging him on, and finally Heenan challenges him to a fight, right there in the booth. "Put Em' Up!!" "The Brain has Lost it here, folks". "Put Em' Up!" Classic. -------J.R. and King's commentary during the HHH/Rock Iron Man Match at Judgement Day, 2000. Extremely well done, reminds me of how Gorilla and Jesse would always put over the technical aspect of the match, like WHY a move was supposed to work/hurt/whatever. -------The commentary of Mean Gene and Heenan during the Gimmick Battle Royal at Wm X-7. It was great to hear J.R. laughing out loud throughout. I loved Heenan's comment as Slaughter put Sheik in the Cobra Clutch. "You can't put him out, because he's not conscious!"

OAO Monday Night Raw Thread: 11/27/2006

I knew someone would call Lawler on that "first time ever in a WWE ring" comment, I just knew. They were the recieptents of the first Kane beatdown (not counting Taker) on the Pillman RAW. I was there.

    WWE announces 2006 DVDs

Doesn't Circuit City have the same rule that Target and Best Buy does--that if something goes on sale within 2 weeks of you buying it, you get the difference back? I would do that, but I've already tossed my receipt from the Piper DVD, plus it's not worth the 20 minute drive + standing in line for 10 minutes to get 10 bucks back. Hell, i'd spend that much just in gas driving to and from there.

    Video Games...

Super WrestleMania for the Genesis was hilarious when you would do a 4 on 4 Survivor Series match. When someone would get eliminated, there would be a 15 second delay while the defeated wrestler would roll out of the ring and the camera would follow them walking all the way to the dressing room curtain, with no emotion, like a robot. You have to see it to understand. WWF Warzone for the PS1 was something I waited for all summer long, as it was delayed about 145 times by Acclaim. I still remember reading the review in Gamepro in about March, and the game didn't get released until August. They meant well, but it was stupid with the "charisma" factor (you had to do a variety of moves or the crowd would turn on you), as someone like Thrasher would be getting cheered over Austin, which would NEVER happen in real life. Plus, you couldn't pick your opponent, which is the dumbest idea ever. WWF Attitude came a year later, again after 456 delays, and it basically was an expanded version of Warzone. This was the first American wrestling game I can remember with create an entrance, which was awesome. WCW Nitro was fun, for about 10 minutes. I played a demo at Best Buy and made the mistake of liking it. "Piledriver!" "Piledriver!" "POWERBOMB!" "It's a Surprise attack!" Yay. WM 2000 for the N64 was like a wet dream, as all my friends and I loved WCW Revenge, but hated the actual WCW. Getting a WWF Aki game was a dream come true. No Mercy is still my favorite wrestling game ever. It came out at the peak of the WWF Attitude era, and there's hardly anything wrong with it. I never cared for any of the Smackdown games. Too arcadey. I DO like SvR 2006 though. Just enough of a sim to make me happy. WM X-8 for the Gamecube was a pathetic waste of time. It was very easy for you to knock your opponent down (where they are out on the mat for a few seconds), and as soon as they would recover, you could hit them with another clothesline or something and knock them out again. This could happen to you as well. One time I spent 5 minutes getting pummeled by the computer before they finally pinned me, never recovering once because they kept knocking me down before I could get up.

I wholeheartedy agree. The AWA feature is right up there with the ECW one as far as quality goes, probably even better. I was really surprised at how they were very frank with Hogan's departure (both sides). Verne and Greg are a little too much in their own world, but at the same time you'd expect that. Who is announcing in the first match on Disc 2? (Bockwinkel/Stevens vs. High Flyers, where Bobby becomes their manager)...annoying as hell. Sounds like a 50 yearold mark, reacting with an AHHWWWHOA!! to everything. I have Piper's DVD to get to as well, but the AWA one was a pleasant surprise, and is well worth a purchase, even if you never knew anything about it's history.

    Worked Angles...

No, they called the Marines "thugs", to make it seem more sadistic that Shawn Michaels was ATTACKED!! No one has mentioned Sid snapping on Shawn the night after WrestleMania 11. While it didn't fool anyone, I was on edge all week wondering what happened, since they went to commerical with Sid yelling at Shawn, then came back with Shawn layed out on the mat, Diesel comes in to make the save, and the show ends.

I'm guessing there's a big sticker on the cover saying includes bonus disc? Which I'm assuming are Piper Pit's segments? You are correct, sir. A black sticker, like Hogan's 4 disc set at Wal-Mart, that says "Includes Special 4th Disc With More Piper's Pits". I haven't watched it yet, but the booklet just says "More Piper's Pits!!" as a listing for the 4th disc. Who knows which ones.

I bought it at Circuit City, with the 4th disc, for 24.99.

    The Old School questions thread

They wrestled on SuperStars in 1992 after WMVIII. Flair pinned Slaughter when The Mountie zapped Slaughter w/ the shockstick. I remember that match. Mountie used a super cattle prod on Slaughter. Vince sold it like it killed him

    The Old School questions thread

Despite using the same music, they were an on-again off-again team at the time. IIRC, Vince was trying to push them both as singles, for whatever reason. Of course, this would repeat, and stay permanent, in 1991.
  11. Retired until TNA offers her a bunch of money.

    WWE announces 2007 DVDs

ECW--No thanks. I'm already ECW'd out with the Rise & Fall and BloodSport releases, and a DVD of the "new" ECW would be terrible anyway. D-X 3 Disc: Again, I'm not really interested in anything current, so a 3 disc retrospective of the 40 Year Old DX isn't my cup of tea. I can't believe they are releasing this, let alone giving it 3 discs. Royal Rumble Anthology: Definitely interested, but not going to save my money up for it or anything. They could be smart and release each one individually (at least through ShopZone or something), but something tells me we'll get another $250 set. However, unlike the WM set, I only have the 2003 and 1992 (via Flair's set) Rumble on DVD, and a old VHS of 1989, so this could be a good investment. However, I would really like to have some sort of documentary disc or feature about the Rumble match itself, or some sort of extra features. releasing "Bare Bones" editions of each Rumble kind of sucks, much like the WM set. Four Horsemen: Will definitely pick it up, but how much of this will be a re-hash of the Confidental segments and other parts of other DVD's (Flair's, Greatest Stars of the 80's, etc.)?? The match listing will be the reason to pick this one up. I bet it gets TWO discs--while 2006 DX somehow deserves 3. Families of Wrestling: Interesting, but I think it will somehow be McMahon top heavy. Does something like this really warrant a release? I'm getting a "Greatest Managers" vibe from this one. Ladder Match: Might be worth it if they have the Bret/Shawn ladder match from the "Grudges Gripes & Grunts" VHS on this one, but apparently that never happened, as Razor/Shawn is now the first ever ladder match, or something. I've seen most ladder/TLC matches, and don't really want to see Jeff Hardy doing a swanton off of a 56 foot ladder AGAIN, but I'll wait and see on this one. WCCW: A surprise. Will be worth it just to see the trainwreck that was the Von Erich family. Rey: Match listing will make this a good one. Cena: Knew this one was coming, and I'm surprised it's being released so far away. A lot can happen in that amount of time. Austin: What can be on this that hasn't been covered in the other 32 Austin VHS/DVD releases? Hopefully they'll include some never before released matches, but i'm guessing we'll just see a bunch of Austin vs. Vince and his WM 13 match with Bret AGAIN. I'm semi-excited at about a fourth of that list. I really would like to see a SNME set, as those still retain some camp value even today. Watching the Hogan/Funk and Hogan/Race matches on his new set brought back memories. And when is Vince going to stop hating Randy Savage for sleeping with Stephanie (or whatever) and release his set? If he can hire Eric Bischoff and put out a Warrior DVD, surely a Savage set can't be too hard. I would also like to see a nice, 3 or 4 hour documentary about the history of WrestleMania. I can remember that book that came out about 5 years ago, and really wishing it was a DVD with that info instead. And.....I'm guessing this list won't be final, and some of this will change. Remember, we were supposed to get a definite "Austin vs. McMahon" set this year, and that became Vince's DVD. I'm hoping the D-X set turns into a complete history, and not just covering the 2006 version.

    The Old School questions thread

I swear Shawn said that line, too. I remember Austin saying it as well. They also put Austin at the beginning, and had him say, "I know what your thinkin'", as a replacement for someone that I can't remember. What was interesting about it was that it was definitely NOT Austin's voice, but rather someone doing a really bad Austin/Texas hick imitation. I think they thought they could pass it off, but I noticed right away.

    WWE announces 2006 DVDs

Can anyone confirm? Yes, I can, and it's bad. Bad to the point that I can see a replacement disc program being put in place. Hogan gets the pin, and at the very point that he is handed the belt after the match, the audio COMPLETELY CUTS OUT for about a minute and 20 seconds. SILENCE. Then, after that 1:20, as Hogan is posing, AUDIO FROM THE END OF THE MATCH (you can hear Gorilla calling the big boot and legdrop) plays. As soon as the pin happens (on audio), the audio cuts back to match Hogan's posing, and the rest is alright. It's more like 2 minutes, not 3 as Meltzer indicated, but it's a huge error.

    WWE announces 2006 DVDs

I'm guessing Hogan allowed the XWF match to be on there. Didn't he run that promotion? Flair/Hogan at BATB was quite good, I'd put it up there as one of his best matches. Hogan is severely trimmed down from the steroids, and the announcers make a point of mentioning it several times, without tying it into steroids, of course. For the record, Wal-Mart is the only place you can get the set with a 4th disc of MATCHES. Apparently Circuit City is selling the 3 disc set with a bandana, and Shopzone and Circuit City are both selling the 4 disc set, but the 4th disc is HOGAN KNOWS BEST episodes, not matches. It's been figured out already, but people were asking.

Yeah, the Boyhood Dream DVD was just a old Coliseum Video. Hogan/Warrior is now on FIVE: WM X-8, Both Hogan Sets, Warrior's Disc, and the WWE Title DVD.

    WWE announces 2006 DVDs

I second HHH/Cactus from RR 2000. I know it's on the "HHH: The Game" DVD, plus Foley's "Greatest Hits and Misses" DVD. Also, Hogan/Andre from WM III (both Hogan sets and WWE Championship DVD), Shawn/Bret Iron Man (Shawn's "From the Vault" and "Boyhood Dream" DVD's, plus the WWE Title Set) Countless numbers of matches are repeated twice. Too many to list.

    WWE announces 2006 DVDs

Bought the Hulkster's DVD at Wal-Mart, and it sure does have a 4th disc with matches. Best Buy is advertising the "Hogan Knows Best 4th Disc" version. I have "Hulk Still Rules", and almost that entire DVD (match wise) is repeated here. I usually bitch and moan about how the WWE does crap like this, but it's been 4 years since HSR, and it's out of print (or very hard to find), so I can understand this new set. There was enough "new" footage (not only matches, but interviews and such) to warrant a purchase. It was only 19.99, too. If it was $25, $30 plus I probably wouldn't get it.

    The Youtube Thread

I still think that the Rock's line during his concert about the "Lakers beating the Kings in May" got one of the biggest heel heat reactions ever. You seldom hear a crowd react like that today. Watch any Austin entrance from 1998 or so. Nothing gets that reaction today. It's like they've neutered the crowds into boredom.

    Ahmed Johnson translated

That Hogan/9-11 sig is fantastic. As far as Ahmed goes, I can remember being flabbergasted as to what he was saying in WWF Warzone. So this is funnier, to me at least.

Don't they realize why people want/buy these discs of the "Legends"? It's for OLD stuff. I could care less about a Piper's Pit with Zach Gowen or the Great Khali. But that's what WWE does with people who have recent footage. They spend about half of the feature and half of the extras focusing on the present, like anything Piper related 2003-present is gold or something. Sheesh.

Controversy Creates Cash - Eric Bischoff

I thumbed through it on my break yesterday (I work at a Borders Bookstore) and was surprised. It's not as deep, nor as controversial as I would want, but it's interesting to read about his dealings with the higher ups and his ideas for things. I was expecting a fluff piece on level with Hogan's book, but this one is pretty well written. I'll definitely read it completely sometime next week.
