The new AFI Top 100, coming June 20th on CBS

Perhaps, but they seemed to be more specifically talking about the first one in that case. In fact, I'm one of the few who agree on the Net. As much as I like ESB, I consider ANH to be the best (and certainly the most self-contained) of the three. I think it was meant to be self-contained, as I don't think it was even called "Episode IV" until much later. ESB was made to flow into ROTJ, whether anyone likes it or not. And I *love* ESB. ...and All About Eve got MASSACRED, falling from number 12 to not even being mentioned. All About Eve was #28 this time, falling 12 spots from #16.

The new AFI Top 100, coming June 20th on CBS

I think the main reason they revisited this list was just to fix the "problems" that certain AFI members/important movie people must have had with the last one. How else can you explain "The Searchers" jumping EIGHTY FOUR spots, from #96 to #12? Has John Wayne become THAT much of an icon in the last 10 years, or was Martin Scorsese pissed that it was near the bottom or something? Several in the top 20 were weird. "The General", which wasn't even on the list last time, was suddenly #18. "City Lights" moved from #76 to #11. I'm really not arguing with their placements this time around, but I find it hard to understand what these films, that are all over 50 years old, could have done in the last 10 years to warrant such a jump--unless some higher ups demanded it. I read the press release about all of this that just posted, and they credited DVD for increasing awareness of these films, thus explaining their higher number this time. Yeah, I'm sure that $7.99 copy of "The Searchers" has constantly been sold out everywhere since 2000, right? Again, I'm not disputing it's greatness (it's easily the best John Wayne movie), but just admit it should have been higher the first time around, mmkay? I thought this was supposed to be about including films that have come out since the last list, but the highest ranking "new" film was LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring, at #50. Most of the films from the last 15 years were in the bottom 50. Again, I'm not arguing really with classic old films taking up most of the top spots, but what was the REAL purpose of redoing this list? I think they just ran out of "100 Years..... 100...(insert)" ideas. My comments on the top 10: 1: Citizen Kane--deserves to be #1 forever. I was scared to death that something would move up 75 spots and overtake it, but nope. Whew. 2: The Godfather: #3 last time. I personally feel it should be #2, as it has been more culturally signifigant than Casablanca in the last 20 years or so. 3: Casablanca: Anywhere in the top 3, fine. Below that, blasphemy. So, I'm happy. 4: Raging Bull: Give me a break. A great film, but not a top 5, nor even a TOP TEN selection. Better between 11-15 or so. 5: Singin' in the Rain: They really seemed to have a hard-on for dance/musicals and silent films this time around. A top 10, but not top 5. 6: Gone With the Wind: Surprised this fell 2 spots. Again, putting this below Raging Bull is a joke. 7: Lawrence of Arabia: Also dropped 2 spots. Like GWTW, I think it hasn't been as culturally popular as the top 4 or 5 lately. 8: Schindler's List: I think this is just showing love to Spielberg. A great film, top 20 for sure, but not groundbreaking enough for the top 10. 9: Vertigo: One of the reasons they re-did this list, to put this in the top 10. I don't know why. Top 25 for sure, but if any Hitchcock film deserves a top 10 nod, it's "Psycho". 10: The Wizard of Oz: SHOCKED this would be put below "Schindler's List", "Vertigo", and "Raging Bull". I think it was just a victim of the desire to shake up the top 10. My personal top 10: 1: Citizen Kane 2: The Godfather 3: Casablanca 4: The Wizard of Oz 5: Gone With the Wind 6: Lawrence of Arabia 7: On the Waterfront 8: Singin' in the Rain 9: E.T: The Extra Terrestrial 10: Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope My Personal FAVORITE Top 10: 1: Back to the Future 2: Citizen Kane 3: Pulp Fiction 4: The Godfather 5: American Beauty 6: 12 Angry Men 7: The Wizard of Oz 8: On the Waterfront 9: Pinocchio 10: Terminator 2: Judgment Day ....and that's just going by AMERICAN movies. If you want to include foreign films, it's a completely different list.

Mr. McMahon "dead" - Now for the "whodunit" angle.

He was "practicing his golf swing" and accidently hit a golf ball directly into the gas tank of the limo. All right, I'm done.

The origins of the Vince angle

I don't mind an angle like this. I don't understand the people (Keller) who consider Professional Wrestling some sort of sacred art. It's always been looked at as a joke by the majority of the population. It just got really popular in a campy sort of way about 8 years ago. I would welcome a legitimate "death" angle, but this one is being executed horribly. If they were going to "kill" Mr. McMahon, they probably shouldn't have had him being an evil bastard leading up to it. Thus, the crowd is happy that he's dead, and cheers, which is not what they want. Then, couple that with the fact that almost everyone knows Vince is not really dead, and the horrible B Movie acting/federal investigators/whodunit, and you have a terrible, terrible storyline. Stop comparing it with 24 or CSI. It's a completely different vein of programming that shouldn't be compared. What would you do if Jack Bauer, instead of torturing an enemy, challenged him to a pro wrestling match? How do you think the viewing audience would react to that? Someone said Vince's limo exploding was right out of a Steven Seagal movie, and they were right. Are Steven Seagal movies good? No, they are terrible, and so is this angle.

    Sherri Martel Passes Away

You know, I've been reading some in depth (and sometimes tongue in cheek) ideas for this angle not only here, but elsewhere. Scott Keith even broke out of his shell and posted a great big theory of how it could play out. But this will end up exactly like all the other big angles the company has done in the last 10 years. Vince will probably re-appear on TV in a week or so, pull a "higher power" type of bait and switch to put himself over as such an evil bastard ("I did it MYSELF! Even my own FAMILY bought it!") and we'll be right back where we started. I really am starting to think that this is just a way to get him off of TV for about 2 or 3 weeks so his hair can finish growing back, or something dumb. It won't impact the ratings like they hope, so they'll end it quickly. It won't last the whole summer, maybe a month. I can remember reading that Lita was supposed to be pregnant for 9 entire months, and a week later Snitsky showed up. They don't have the patience to let this play out. It was probably thought up in the limo on the way to RAW about 2 weeks ago. As far as it relates to Sherri, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't mention her death at all. It will probably be regulated to A.M Raw or some show no one watches. I mean, as much as Sherri did for them, she wasn't Bret Hart or anyone.

    Sensational Sherri passes away

This came out of nowhere. I hope it was natural causes, as terrible as that sounds. I'm glad at least that she got her day in the sun with the HOF last year, but it's still sad news. RIP

WWE General Discussion for June 2007

And seeing as how they tend to hire Hollywood rejects to write for them, its only a matter of time before we find out that the man who really died in the limo was Vincenzo, Vince McMahon's evil twin that had kept the real Vince locked away until just recently and with his death, we will be graced with Vince coming back to the booth as the goofy commentator we all knew and loved growing up wondering just how in the world did he get up from that and exclaiming on how he "thought he had him"... BAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK BBBBOOOOOODDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY DDDDRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One! Two! HEGOTHIMNOHEDIDNTCOMEONREF!! I always loved how Vince's announcer voice sounded like he was shouting at the top of his lungs, yet really he wasn't louder than anyone else.

They know this Vince death thing is not going over well at all, so they have to show it AGAIN just to be sure?

Yeah, but most of it was sarcastic jokes, making fun of the whole deal.

Mr. McMahon "dead" - Now for the "whodunit" angle.

Was anyone there live? Was there really a "hush" over the crowd when it happened? I have no idea what they are going for with all of this, as we all know Vince will be back on TV by SummerSlam. It just makes Pro Wrestling look even more like a joke. Oh, and it was George Zahorian.

"Presumed" dead. I'm sure no body will be found, and Vince will come out on RAW in 3 weeks with tape on his ribs. I wonder if they will rush him to a "medical facility"?

    WWE announces 2007 DVDs

To answer that question, yes. I think the official release date is this Tuesday, however, along with the Ladder Match 3 disc. I bought both tonight at Borders, where I work. Like some books, some DVD's have a release date, but not a strict, on sale "Lay Down" date like say, Harry Potter or (this week) Norbit. So, we put them out early, and I bought them, since full timers get a free gift card each month. I haven't watched the "Families" DVD yet, but I watched the first disc of the Ladder Match set. The Bret/Shawn match was good, in a first ever WWF Ladder Match kind of way. You could tell they wanted to do more, but didn't want to push it. They glaze over the WM X Shawn/Razor match, but have an interview with Shawn about it, which was a nice touch. Funny thing, they didn't edit out the "Barry Didinsky" merchandise promo (standing outside the ring, pushing the Shawn Michaels "glasses" and "poster") at the beginning of the Shawn/Razor SSlam rematch, but they blacked out the phone number and muted it when he said it. With all the edits they do nowadays, you'd think that would be an easy one, but I guess not.

    WWE announces 2007 DVDs

Also, just for the record, Shopzone is selling Shawn's DVD for only $9.59, so it wouldn't be too much extra just to skip the whole Wal-Mart deal for the tin and go buy Shawn's DVD later. I think you'd end up paying about 5 bucks more.

    WWE announces 2007 DVDs

From the looks of it (various EBAY auctions), the Wal-Mart 2 pack of WM with Shawn's DVD has both discs individually wrapped WITHIN a special "Wal-Mart Exclusive" half slipcover--at least I think so, each disc had the security labels on the top and bottom, so I would assume they just took them and bundled them together. So, you could theoretically buy the Wal-Mart 2 pack, take the bare-bones (but still unopened) WM DVD and take it to a Best Buy or Circuit City and exchange it for the tin, saying you bought the wrong one or something. That way, you can still keep Shawn's DVD. Sounds complicated, but there is a Wal-Mart literally right next to a Best Buy by my work, so I might try it tomorrow. If someone who actually bought the Wal-Mart set can confirm, that would help, though.

    OAO Judgment Day 2007 Thread

I just don't get this "Same Ol' Crap" booking with Cena overcoming the odds every month. I mean, I realize where they are going with it, but it's not that interesting or compelling. At least he's been champion for the better part of 2 years now. I hated when HHH/Rock/Angle/Austin/whoever kept the title for two weeks back in the day.

You know, you're right. I'm never watching WWE again. That dumbass timekeeper ruined the entire night for me. That, and RVD didn't use the tag rope. ASSHOLE!
  21. JimmyHendricks

    OAO WrestleMania 23 Thread-April 1st, 2007

That's because the timekeeper interpreted the sound of Austin dropping down to the canvas as the first count. It's happened before. I know, stop acting like a timekeeper ringing a bell a half second early on what everyone knew was the decisive pinfall was a huge fuckup and ruined the whole evening or something. It's fine if you don't like the show, but stop bitching about dumb shit like that. It's not like he rang the bell at the first pinfall attempt or something. I guess that means Savage/Steamboat was a terrible match because the crowd thought Hebner dropping to the mat was a one count not once, but twice.

    OAO WrestleMania 23 Thread-April 1st, 2007

One more thing and I'm out (maybe): Undertaker should never lose at WM. Even if he ends up going 20-0. I feel they've gone past the point of his streak being in jeopardy with his defeat of Batista tonight. I felt that Orton would end it two years ago, and he didn't. Put him on there in garbage matches against idiots of Mark Henry's caliber if you want to extend the streak, but please, no more 'This is it the end of the streak! 1, 2, NOOOOOO!" nonsense. Let him have his undefeated WM legacy. If tonight wasn't the night, it never will be. I can't see anyone being big enough to deserve to end it.

No Edge injury update, so I'm guessing he's fine. That spot was sick, but he probably has a concussion if anything. He just got smashed.

    OAO WrestleMania 23 Thread-April 1st, 2007

I agree that too many people were in this MITB. It was almost like they were going, "Ok, now Punk needs another spot!" Having Edge spear everyone is an example of that. You'd think after seeing 3 other people get speared, that you wouldn't get in the ring, but nope! But again, it didn't take away from the match much.

Just proof that The 40 Year Old DX will continue once HHHHHHH makes his triumphant return. I doubt it. Ten bucks says HHH turns on HBK his first night back and starts HBK/HHH #659. Perhaps, but it shows that HHHHHHHH's spot is being held completely in place, regardless of if it means Shawn has to come out to DX music for the next 6 months. They could scratch the whole DX idea and just have HHH be the Cerebral Assassin again, but apparantly we all miss the dick jokes or something.
