    What Might Have Been #1

He's a strike away from being fired and he's already been fired once & sent to rehab once in his career. I don't know if they'd take him as a road agent/director or not.

    What Might Have Been #1

In this thread, we will look back on a turning point in recent WWE history, and discuss what might have been, if things had turned out...just a little bit differently. ****** The setup: A one-night King of the Ring tournament features Raw GM William Regal taking a shortcut to the finals, where he defeats a fatigued CM Punk to win the crown. As General Manager and King, Regal has full control over the program, and asserts himself by turning off the lights at will, most specifically at the end of one episode of RAW during the HHH/Orton title match main event. HHH takes exception to this and begins to torment King Regal; furthermore, Mr. Kennedy returns from filming a movie to call out Regal on the way he won the crown. Vince McMahon, however, gives Regal his full support. The actual result: Regal fails a Wellness Policy test, and requires a 60-day suspension. McMahon is forced to change his tune, and does so by citing a ratings drop whenever Regal is on-screen. He then books a "Loser Gets Fired" match between King Regal and Kennedy on the May 19th episode of RAW. Kennedy emerges victorious and Regal is summarily "fired". The question is...what might have been? Assume William Regal doesn't fail that Wellness Policy test; where does King Regal go from May 19th? Does he still wrestle Kennedy that night (and if so, is it still under "Loser gets fired" rules, leading to Kennedy losing his job)? Does he maintain the feud with Kennedy? Does he plug himself into the WWE title picture with HHH? Does he end up turning Orton face and feuding with him over the same "power outage during the title rematch" issue? Or does he go in a totally different direction? What do you think?

Does WWE have to many titles?

They don't want one belt, though. The brands go on outside-the-US tours and it would suck to be out there knowing the world champion was back in the US, and it would equally suck to be in the US and know the "real" world champion was thousands of miles away. Even though every champion doesn't appear on every show, they like to maintain the possibility. And besides, which title feuds currently going actually require the title? -Punk is trying to prove he can beat guys like Batista, he could do that with the MITB briefcase still or even just for the sake of respect. -HHH is defending against Edge because of Vickie and now he's defending against Khali because it's time for HHH to play the role of Cena and go through giant after giant (next up: Umaga?). -Mark Henry has feuds against Dreamer in a "I got screwed" rematch, Hardy is #1 contender with Finlay, Miz & Morrison in the mix, and Delaney is a wild card. -Kofi is fighting Burchill, Mickie is fighting Katie Lea, those two feuds could go based on the conflicts they've already had. Shelton just won the US gold so he hasn't had the chance to do anything yet. -Hawkins & Ryder just won the tag belts and they've got feuds against any of the three teams in the fatal four-way and specifically Miz & Morrison. -Rhodes & DiBiase are looming over Lawler & Hacksaw for the "You're too old" storyline and could easily pull the rich pretty boy cards to wrestle Cryme Tyme, and McCool could just wrestle Natalya for the sake of feeling like it for all I care, she's boring and unattractive.

    ECW on Sci-Fi (7/22/2008)

Is gold really expensive all of a sudden, or did WWE get a monster deal on paint and silver, because they've debuted two belts in three days and neither one of them has a speck of gold on them, from what I can see. If this were earlier in the decade we'd be awash with "How long before HHH mentions Henry winning the 'silver medal' omgwhataburial" about this. As it stands....I dunno. It looks cool, but championships should be mostly gold, not devoid of it.

OK, the online dynasty will be fucked if someone else tries to make an online dynasty with the same name. Apparently EA didn't put in protection against this, so if I were to make one with the same name as the TSM one, the TSM one would be erased & become unplayable for everybody in it.

    This Week in Baseball 7/21 - 7/27

As long as he stays in the minors, Liriano doesn't get any additional "Major league service" time, which is what counts when it comes to whether or not he gets arbitration.

Why is Liriano still in the minor leagues instead of on the Twins' roster? Do they really not need a dominant left-hander? Speaking of which, I really should get off my ass and go to the AAA game tomorrow, since he's starting.

I presume it's related to Kaz losing that Cup thing they had going there. World X Cup, whatever the hell its name is.

Looking at the timeline, Regal's sixty days ended on July 19th; he's eligible to return at any time.

Damn North Texas. In NCAA 04 they always turned into a six-star powerhouse. Same with Western Michigan, really, that was kinda nuts.

Just as a heads up in general, Pasta Padre's online dynasty just got wrecked by some sort of bug (probably the roster editing one) and it's become unplayable. No idea if that's possible/probable/guaranteed with the TSM dynasty, but something to keep in mind and be aware of.

Does WWE have to many titles?

The roster size necessitates that many titles, but the shows & PPVs aren't long enough to fit them all in. You're looking at 30 minutes per Raw/Smackdown for each title assuming there are no not-about-a-title segments on the program. A three-hour pay-per-view allows 20 minutes per title, and that's not long enough. The problem you run into is, which titles do you drop? I mean, you have a major title, a midcard belt, a set of tag belts and a women's belt. How do you drop one of those without completely eliminating a division's worth of workers from the roster, and which one do you drop if you decide you have to do it?

A discussion on what goes where

Why I haven't made those threads: It's easy to come up with a one-off idea to make a point, but much harder to come up with weekly ideas, plus you run into spoiler v. non-spoiler. I mean, for Tragedy Strikes I could easily do stuff related to several GAB matches, but I'd be walking the line between doing it immediately after the PPV and risking people outright giving out spoilers (or having the entire thread be a wall of spoilered text, forcing everybody to highlight the whole page to read anything), or waiting a week or two and having the PPV buzz die down so nobody wants to bother. The only question I've got now is how should we do it? Do people want rigid timelines (like say, What Might Have been being the midday Wednesday discussion topic that lasts for a week) and defined thread creators (one person being the "official" person to decide the week's topic, taking requests & suggestions from the forum in general), or do they want more or less a crapshoot where anybody who's got a topic can throw out a discussion thread for it any time they want, and mods will just close them/let them fall when discussion dies off?

A discussion on what goes where

It looks like we're not discussing a lot of WWE wrestling because in reality...we're not discussing much wrestling except DURING wrestling in the show/PPV threads. I've got the board settings to show all topics from the last 15 days and there are six that aren't show/PPV/spoiler threads. One's the very recent Lashley in AAA thread, there's the DVD discussion thread, "What isn't stale in the WWE?", the Benoit book thread, "unrealistic angles", and "Vince McMahon = Howard Hughes?". I'm going to not include the DVD discussion thread because that's a year-long thing and has been there for seven months while the others are relatively recent. So we have five non-show threads. Of the five, at thirty posts per page, two have made it to page two, and only one made it past that (the Benoit book thread at five). All three shows and the PPVs have their own topic, Smackdown has a spoilers topic every week, overly big news and Observer notes, on the rare occasion they happen, get their own thread. If you have a random thought, there is a topic for it. If you have some news that's not big enough to deserve a thread, there's a topic for it. If you want some topics, we need something to discuss in them, and just as some examples, I pieced this list of suggestions together: -What about getting a handful of members to chip in some cash to buy an Observer subscription, and having somebody or a group of somebodies type up the notes? They always seemed to gather a large amount of discussion compared to the other topics. -A "Let's discuss" thread that targets wrestlers, gimmicks, feuds, storylines and matches on a weekly basis -A "Predict the future" thread where you pick a wrestler and try to guess what they're going to do in the next week/month/year/remainder of their career -A "Tragedy Strikes" thread, where somebody selects a current feud or storyline, throws a potential wrench in the works, and challenges others to try to 'fix' things (say Snitsky is the one that injured Punk in their title match of a couple weeks ago; where does WWE go with Raw and the World Heavyweight Title?, for example) -A "What might have been" thread, discussing gimmicks, injuries or storylines and discussing how (if at all) their continuance/early severance would have changed the wrestling world (How would the WWF have gone if Michaels doesn't lose four years to a back injury?)

A discussion on what goes where

No comment warrants a thread by itself, it's the responses to the comment that determine whether it warrants a thread. Hence my post. I realize mods don't want to fish through CTDWAT every day pulling shit out to make topics out of it when discussion pops up, but the only way "people do their share" in making topics is to either: a) be omniscient enough to know whether your comment will spawn enough debate and discussion to warrant its own thread, or b) make a new topic about everything in case it's discussed enough to warrant it. I asked about $60 each for floor seats at a house show and whether it was worth the money or if I'd be better off being a cheapskate and sitting farther back, and got 6-7 responses in Random Thoughts. Did that warrant a thread, and would it warrant one if I had only gotten one or two responses? The only way you're going to get things the way you want them is to do the things you don't want to do; either fish through and pick out what's being discussed for topics, or close a shitload of one-off topics that get no discussion. Or give up on letting new people who haven't even signed up yet determine how & where the current people post and instead let them assimilate into our way of doing things, that's always an option. It's what you post that counts, not where you post it. I don't see how re-working the place we post what we post will somehow bring a massive influx of new users, and if it does I don't see why any of us would want to bring in users so shallow and inattentive as to determine whether or not they join a forum based on how many threads their wrestling news go in.

    The NBA Offseason Thread

Oklahoma City Thunder is the newest rumor name. I hate it. Keep team mascot names plural, and keep them things that can have mascots. How do you have a thunder mascot? Or a thunder logo? Or do you have a lightning logo that probably rips off Tampa's hockey team and pretend nobody will notice the difference? I was pumped about the Barons, too, that mockup jersey was badass

    WWE Great American Bash 2008

Shit, if I was getting married on WWE television I would make sure HHH was thrown out of the arena. He's always got some sort of video to ruin the festivities. At best he'll have caught me cheating, and at worst he would have married my soon-to-be bride at a drive-in chapel the night before.

It's weird to see Jericho pummel HBK to the point where the match is stopped, and then see Indiana Jericho in the SummerSlam ad. And Ross just called Cena/JBL a "two-man WarGames". Bah gawd he mentioned That Which Shall Not Be Named!

I wish Jericho would only wrestle guys that could take the Walls properly instead of having Jericho be the one in more pain by being so hunched over so as not to actually put any pressure whatsoever on the hold.

Bah gawd the power, Shelton catches a second rope hurancanrana attempt and delivers a turnbuckle powerbomb. Shelton hits Paydirt & the Gold Standard leaves the Bash with the title that has the least gold on it. Hardy's the first US champion to lose the US title at the Bash.
