    NHL Offseason Thread

I heard they figured the new GM would want his own coach, and it was fairer to Maurice to let him go now so he has at least a shot at an NHL-level position next season, rather than waiting to sign a GM and then getting rid of him...which shows exactly how long they intend to search. Basically they'll probably piss away the summer trying to lure Scotty Bowman out of retirement, fail, and then just throw money at anyone who will listen until one signs.

They'd need Vlad to sign off on it at the very least. I know they've done transferrals of players between accounts but that was an isolated incident. EDIT: And the trade just went through, Abraham Simpson is now on Smartmarks FC.

A new HB, you say? http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=224855 Obviously it's a drop off from what Vlad brings to the table, but it's a HB that'll save someone the 1200FP needed to just outright buy a level 4 and it's better than having someone start from scratch at level 1.

The game's biased to offense's right side runs, so the left side of the defense sees more action.

So um...when are the Rockstar devs going to log onto XBL so we can get that final achievement?

100 free flex points because the admin fucked up the code not once, but twice in the same day.

Footprints in the snow are in, but full bodies landing in the snow leave no mark whatsoever. And now that there's been customer backlash, they're going to try to put weather effects in online franchise. Does this scream of "We tried putting it in, but it sucked. We said it wasn't going in for the sole purpose of being able to 'listen to the customers' and 'include it at the last minute' so we look like heroes for getting a half-working model into the game rather than looking like the incompetent boobs we are for having a full year to do it and being incapable of making it playable." to anyone else?

Now that my OT position has been usurped ( on that, by the way) you're welcome to put Slate Fistcrunch at backup guard, backup DT, backup DE...wherever he's needed to help fill depth. It'll be interesting to see how he does playing out of position.
  9. I guess they figure a guy driving through five states to drown people would've left more evidence than a big group would have.

Humans > CPU. And methinks it's a lack of depth; we keep losing close and we keep losing late, and that just screams "We're too tired to seal the deal". I've got 400 points to work with, 500 if one of the two referrals I've got idling come back, so I can make some depth if you want. Just name the positions.

    WWE Raw (4/28/2008)

OK, so the TV crowd gets...nothing. WWE.com (and I'm sure tons of other wrestling sites) get hits aplenty to see who won the match. The live crowd gets the always-popular "Wait, this isn't televised? Fuck this, then." finish. Unless this leads to Regal v. Vince for the entirety of WWE with Regal winning and running the show for some length of time, horrible move that does nothing productive. Who's going to feud with Regal because the fans didn't get to see the title match finish?

They had a kickoff return touchdown...by a defensive end. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=1390746 Unrelated note, we need more corners. Annie's idle and we only have 2 humans anyway; the CPU CBs are just terrible and they're playing nickel, dime and substituting for the two humans. I'll make one if nobody else has the FP, I was planning on buying some soon anyway.

Where's Mr. Hughes when you need him? He's perfect for the role.

    The 2008 NFL Draft Thread.

Carolina and Jacksonville: What were they thinking? I mean, the trades were sort of mathematically balanced by 'the chart', but for christ's sake both of those guys would have been available 10+ picks later and you'd give up a lot less and pay a lot less to get them at that point. Green Bay: Way to kick Rodgers in the nuts. "OK kid, Favre finally retired, here's your big chaBRIAN BROHM QUARTERBACK LOUISVILLE". Did they do it just to make sure the Bears didn't get a quarterback? And would the Dolphins have taken Henne if both Brohm and Henne were available one pick later? Carolina with Stewart: I would have rather had Mendenhall personally, but Stewart's a good pick. The team has had the most success under Fox when they had a power back (Stephen Davis or Goings during his surprise production year), so I can't fault them for the HB pick. A lot of receivers went off the board in round 2, though, I'm curious to see where they go with their two thirds and two fifths (thanks j-e-t-s jetsjetsjets) Buffalo had a good draft. They picked up a corner, that'll help. If their second-round receiver turns out successful they're in business, and there are still five rounds left to pick up another HB to save Lynch from getting himself killed.

They're releasing Head Coach separately for $45. Why spend $45 on the game when you can spend $90 for the Madden 20th Anniversary and get both (a $105 value!)?

New teams just went live. I snagged a GM position....merely by not specifically requesting it, if the owner's eagerness to give it to me is any indication. EDIT: Season should start this upcoming Saturday...just in time for the NFL draft.

New teams released sometime the night of 4/22 in Pacific Time (somewhere between 6pm and midnight is the guess, but there's no official time to avoid a rush.) Postseason will probably last a day or two beyond that and then season 2 begins.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

    1) She's a girl. 2) She had a respectable start to her career, and did well in her first Indy 500 (I believe she finished fourth and led a lap or two along the way) so everybody just assumed she'd be dominating by now. 3) She is/was the only person in the IRL that had any sort of marketing at all. Therefore, it's good for the IRL for her to win. They don't have any sort of advertising for anybody else (name me some IRL drivers that didn't switch to NASCAR.), so Danica winning is a lock to get IRL on every sports newscast in the nation for at least one night. The IRL is stupid anyway, the cars are too fragile for the American hick (the top auto racing fanbase) to bother watching. NASCAR cars and pretty much every other car on the planet can just take a side-to-side scrape and keep on going (so long as you don't cut a tire down), but you have two open-wheel cars bump side-to-side and the cars fucking explode into a million pieces.
