Totally agreed with Big Green. I had an old black clamshell phone that got the shit beaten out of it on a regular basis and I never worried about it. I upgraded to a Vu and I have to baby the damn thing and its touchscreen. I miss being able to just grab my phone or have it thrown to me if I left it sitting somewhere, as opposed to having to put it in the holster and keep it there knowing full well it's doing jack squat to keep it protected and I'm one slip, trip or stumble away from being phoneless.

Because the law doesn't give a shit how convoluted the path to underage drunkenness was; if they're underage, they're drunk and they're in the bar, the bar is assumed to be responsible for it and it's up to them to prove that they didn't supply the booze. Any one minor could get the bar shut down or have their liquor license revoked, and no one patron is worth risking that unless they buy enough sober drinks & pay a big enough cover charge to cover every alcohol drinker that's going to another bar until they regain their license (not to mention the fact that at least one bartender's pretty much fired & blackballed from bartending as a result). This personally bit me in the ass a couple summers ago when myself and a ladyfriend I was hoping to impress ended up having to walk 5 blocks in the rain to go to another pool hall because the one we wanted & originally planned on going in wouldn't let me in (a month before my 21st birthday). Totally didn't get to do her. This line of discussion reminded me of how much that angered me. Oh, and I hate ammonia too. We had a blueprint machine back in high school and you could always tell when it was blueprint season because the four massive windows were wide open and at least one giant floor fan had been brought into the CAD lab.

How do I get the Se-Poo-Ku achievement? Hint: Se-Poo-Ku is a play on words of ritual Japanese suicide. I knew those 3 years of Japanese classes would help me somewhere in life, and they did! I knew that already. A little more help, please?

New girlfriend cling. I get it, you love me, can we not play the "talk to me every day or else you hate me" card? That'd be great. Oh and the sooner we as a society drop the "I just want to hear you say goodnight...that's what I'll tell you but in actuality I'm going to sit on the phone with you for as long as I can guilt you into staying on just because I don't want to hang up, regardless of the fact that you've got better things to do than sit on the other end of a silent phone waiting for me to say something worth staying on the line for" game from male/female relations, the better. And she's new, so I can't just tell her off and expect things to be peaches & cream.

Same score on FBS with 5:30 remaining. Failed on Arkansas State, Ball State, Southern Miss, Toledo & NMSU. Arkansas State is bullshit, they were the Indians up until Fall 2008. The other 4 I have no excuse beyond not playing NCAA 09 so it's been 2 years since I've seen most of those teams.

The Agent of Oblivion question of the day

I had a cyst removed from the base of my left ring finger. I don't remember jack about it, I went in, they gave me some anesthesia in my IV and the next thing I knew it was 4 hours later. Scared the shit out of me that 4 hours of my life were totally gone. Beyond that, I had a few stitches put in my nose before my first birthday when I faceplanted the edge of a microwave cart and split my nose open. Not really surgery but I've still got a scar from it 21+ years later.

YO! TSM raps: John Cena in 2009

Cena is not going to get any farther over by beating guys he's already beaten, and he's beaten everybody on his level. He's not going to start doing jobs as a megaface, so for him to put anybody over he has to turn heel, and if he turns heel that leaves the door open for faces like Punk, Kofi, MVP, and yes, even Kennedy, to go over him. Maybe they get over, maybe they pull a Hurricane-over-Rock/Shelton-over-HHH where they go over but nobody cares, maybe Spaceman Spiff on the smart marks wrestling forum still thinks they're the drizzling shits(..............shits), but you have to give them the chance and I'd rather see them get the chance while simultaneously freshening up Cena's character and using his star power as a potential launching pad, as opposed to waiting for 12 Rounds 2 to give Cena a couple months off and hoping somebody can get themselves over in his place.

YO! TSM raps: John Cena in 2009

The fact that he went over guys like Booker T, Big Show, JBL & Jericho on his way to #1 guy didn't somehow turn them into a bunch of nobodies and certainly didn't hurt their popularity any, so I don't see why a six month jobbing heel stint to put over 2-3 guys is going to wreck him after 5 years of going over anybody & everybody to the tune of 4 World titles, 3 US titles & 2 Tag title reigns. Cena's career is unquestionably on a HoF pace and he won't turn 32 until late April; why should the WWE wait a decade to start having him put guys over?

YO! TSM raps: John Cena in 2009

What does Cena gain by continuing to go over guys he's already beaten? What do any of the upper midcard guys (yes, including Kennedy, who in my opinion might become something if given a gimmick beyond "Mr. Announces His Own Entry................Entry" and the ability to not suffer debilitating injuries every year) gain by continuing to either be "not good enough to face Cena" or "good enough to job to Cena"? Feed Cena's heel turn off of CM Punk. He's probably the #3 face merchandise seller (behind HHH, I'd assume, but I don't have hard numbers in front of me), and it isn't like Cena's merchandise sales are going to go to 0 the second he says something bad about the fans. Orton & Edge are top heels and they sell merchandise as well. Cena can lose at WM and claim he's tired of living the workaholic fan-ass-kissing lifestyle when he sees guys like Edge/Big Show/HHH sleeping their way to the top and being even more successful as a result. He doesn't even have to go full-on heel, he can just go against his hustleloyaltyrespect mantra and tweener it up for a while, intentionally flipping the "kids love him, everyone else dislikes his Super Cena hulking up and childish humor" balance. Yes business is good, Cena sells tickets, sells merchandise, is the top face, I get that. But saying "So-and-so is the top guy so we're not going to mess with the formula" is exactly what led the WWF to get passed by WCW in the early days of Nitro, and is the reason why the WWF passed nWo-laden Nitro later on. At some point you have to at least try to shake things up and see what sticks, and it's better to do that while you have the top guy to work off of rather than waiting for another movie role, or another serious injury that can't miraculously be rehabbed at a 4x rate, and hoping that the rest of the company can shore up a massive hole in the lineup for however long your top guy is out.

WWE General Discussion - March 2009

More like "Can't work to the point where she broke her collarbone, returns and immediately re-broke it, returned and nearly immediately injured her ankle". To be fair, it's hard to improve when you can't get in the ring more than twice before re-injuring yourself. She's got enough modeling jobs to carry her over, she's not going to Ashley away into being a nobody.

YO! TSM raps: John Cena in 2009

He's overdone. He doesn't have the time off other guys do and he's wrestled everyone there is to wrestle. Go down the Raw roster...beat Jericho clean for the title...beaten JBL clean a handful of times...I don't remember him wrestling Kane, honestly, but Kane is not very memorable to me so it's possible I'm just forgetting it...beat Orton clean...and that's it. Every main-event caliber heel (or heel close enough to be made main event in a pinch) on his roster is a guy he's beaten at least once, and in most cases several times over the past few years. Go over to Smackdown: beaten Edge several times, beat HHH at Wrestlemania (who isn't a heel, mind you), was defeating Big Show as early as WM 20...that leaves Taker & Koslov as top guys I don't remember him repeatedly defeating. Cena's essentially beaten everyone there is to beat in the WWE. This means he's about as over as he's going to get, which means it's time to turn him heel for the purpose of jobbing him to the upper midcard in an attempt to get them to the main event. The upper midcard is jacked (MVP, CM Punk, Rhodes/DiBiase, Kofi, Kennedy, Shelton...) with guys that could get a huge rub from just one win over Cena, but as long as he's a face it's likely he won't even wrestle them; and even if he does it'd be either a squash vs a heel or a "competitive matchup" that's never mentioned again if he faces a Kofi or a Punk in a face/face bout.

    Weird Girls In School

Man, fuck secret admirers. I had one tape a note to my locker the day before winter break my junior year of high school, and I ignored the note until I got hungry enough to eat the candy cane she'd taped to it and took it down just to get the cane. Never heard a word out of her beyond that, but it served her right for drawing hearts on the back in crayon. So there's my weird girl story. One of them liked me and I judged her based on her choice in art medium.

    Cowboys release Terrell Owens

I look forward to Edwards & Losman getting the media ripping they so richly deserve when they inevitably stink it up.
  21. You know, I don't buy this argument. Actors seem to put their hearts into completely scripted lines, without any improv or whatever. People can still do a great job with lines that were originally written hundreds of years ago, in a live atmosphere. Maybe they could help workers adjust to scripted promos by putting them through acting classes or something. If the scripts are bad (and most times they are), no amount of acting can save that. It's not coincidental that the guys with the most say in their scripts (Jericho, HHH, HBK in the script) are the ones cutting the best promos. Then again, what can be done about it? It's a lot easier to replace a wrestler in the biggest wrestling company he can perform in than it is to replace a writer who's dropped about as far as a writer can drop while still earning a regular paycheck.
  22. They even include pauses for crowd reactions (***); nice touch. Script doesn't have the match finishes on it. Interesting. Where would they list that if not on the script?

And as cited by Papacita, the best copy I could find even though it's cut to hell: There used to be a full one from where he wheeled him out to when RAW went off the air, but damn if I can find it now.

    College Basketball: March '09

I voted for it, but that's mainly because I like the small conference tourneys where it's win or have your season end, as opposed to the big conferences where there's a good shot at a final/semifinal/quarterfinal loser getting an at-large bid. Other than the occasional little conference tourney I won't tune into anything until Selection Sunday, at which point I'm pretty much going to schedule out what games to watch and go from there.
