WWE General Discussion - January 2008
Mike wanna be replied to Prophet of Mike Zagurski's topic in The WWE Folder
Was the crowd as dead for the women's match as they sounded to be on TV? It really, really seemed like nobody remotely gave a shit about the 'match'. -
But in reverse, how can it keep people out when it can't keep its contents in? Cage matches suck in a kayfabe perspective.

He looks & wrestles like a lazy Stan Hansen, he stole his gimmick from Ted DiBiase and he has done nothing but sully both men's reputations by returning to the ring. Related note, enjoy that raise, whoever convinced Jericho to come back, for your lies have worked to perfection as Y2J goes from title picture to putting over the in-ring return of the least over champion since Diesel.

Saints Row is backwards, though. You throw yourself in front of a car or ride shotgun with a soccer mom while she does drug deals to gain respect in your gang...and then you do a mission that has you wipe out about 30 rival gang members plus one of their gang's main leaders and you lose a bar of respect. If the point of the game was to let the rest of the gang fight for control while you bounce about doing nonsensical errands then it's great, but I don't think I should be losing respect for mowing down the competition while some other schmuck is getting mad propz for riding around in a minivan while some dumb blond goes "GEE WILLIKERS THIS IS DANGEROUS". Granted, I probably wouldn't have touched half the side missions had they not been required, but it really felt like one of those forced prolonging things where they knew the storyline could carry 10 hours and needed another 20, so they decided to make me do nonsensical stuff to waste time. Worse yet, you only get a limited amount of respect from each one (one per level until you finish level 8) and then you have to do something else. The timing on this sucked because if you found one you liked, you didn't get to play it long enough before you earned all the respect you could earn. If you found one you hated, it would take you forever to get the respect out of it. It's still a very good game, but God help you if you don't like the side missions.

And you can sometimes snag it with Forza Motorsport 2, so you're getting 2 games for less than the price of one. Oblivion's a spectacular game. Outside of that....um....look into backwards compatibles and sports games, because the console is majorly FPS heavy at the moment. I had a lot of fun with Fable. (Granted I bought it three years ago used in a "Send us your used games and we'll send you games for them!" trade and never got around to playing it until like, a month ago)

If they want to keep McNabb they're going WR no matter what. Donovan is not going to sit around in Philadelphia and be shit on for another handful of years while they continue to give him nothing outside of Westbrook to throw the ball to when there are a handful of teams with better offenses in need of a QB to distribute the ball.

Sore hips, perhaps. Although he is a starting pitcher; sitting on his ass is 80% of his job, he may as well be comfortable.

LSU is better than Florida was last year, and Ohio State is worse than they were last year. If Louisiana State wins by less than 21 I'll be surprised.

I knew a guy that could do that and have every fucking one smell like rotten eggs. Rotten egg stink increases exponentially, and we all know school buses magnify stink fivefold.

Wrong. You could turn on random crimes before that. I think this is wrong as well. Co-op mode along with the Keys to the City DLC broke save games for a little while, long after the game itself's release. There might have been something previous to that right at release, but that's the only co-op bug I've heard of. Random crimes =/= reset crime bosses. A random crime meant you had to drive all over the place to find 4 or 5 gang members who were probably half dead anyway and in the meantime you're just traveling from place to place waiting for dots to show up on radar. Resetting the bosses brought back those massive groupings & floods of thugs. And 'release', I meant the DLC release, but wasn't smart enough to specify that when I said it It would crash the save and make you start over....which I didn't see the problem with, because one of the free DLC's main selling points was the ability to start over...
-
When it came out, there wasn't resetting the bosses, so any skills you hadn't maxed would prove to be a total bitch to max because there were no thugs to kick/shoot/run over. Plus co-op mode broke save games for a little while after release. Other than those qualms you are correct, you're only competing against yourself and your own personal best times.

Crackdown was really good, but it gets sort of repetitive. There wasn't any replay value at all until they released the DLC, which is just embarrassing. I'm looking forward to NFL Tour, though I'm quite confident I'll regret throwing $40 at it at launch, I've got the cash and it comes out on Tuesday so it's pretty much a given that I'll pick it up. Also looking forward to Spore, Fable 2, GTA IV and Bully: Scholarship Edition.

Over 200 additions were advertised; what they are I've no idea, considering that a huge portion of the game's inner mechanics are already editable, but I look forward to the Developer diaries as always.

Just for kicks, I hopped into a game of CoD4 Headquarters and decided to file a complaint every time I heard somebody call someone either a nigger or a jew, and choosing to avoid player when someone's mother or sexuality was brought into the discussion. Fortunately I didn't really want to play the game, because I spent about 10 seconds out of every minute actually in the game, the rest of it was bouncing between the score screen and the Guide tab/fin/whatever it's called that comes out of the side of the screen to show me things.

Dixon will go fifth or sixth round at best. He has a Troy Smith element about him that will make a team that doesn't really need a quarterback to take a look at him. He could end up a receiver before it's all over in the same vein as Matt Jones. He might even go later than that, what with the knee injury and all. Hey now, Keyshawn played pretty damn well for them. No comment on the other two. I agree, but I don't think they signed him to a four-year deal with the intent of having him retire (I know they released him before he retired, but considering his season I don't see why they'd release him unless they knew he had no intention of returning to play the following season and wanted the cap room cleared)

Found some more information on those low ratings for Toxxic:

Maybe you don't like Moore, but your alternatives are bringing 45-year-old Testaverde out of retirement or David Carr. If they take a QB they take one in rounds 4-7 (I'd guess round 4, that seems to be the reach round). Carolina needs to either revamp their o-line for the slash & dash running style of Foster & Williams, or they need to get themselves a power running back. They also need a #2 wide receiver, and Colbert, Keyshawn & Jarrett have shown that they need to stay as far away from USC products as possible. A tight end couldn't hurt, either.
-
I don't think this is a good idea. I think it's fine the way it is with a team going 1-15 getting the first pick rather than a 7-9 team that would have been 10-6 possibly if they hadn't suffered some injuries. But Carolina really could've used that pick... I agree, the NFL Draft should stay as it is. It only comes down to who's luckier when all the other important statistics are even. Plus with the significantly larger roster than the NBA there are more needs, which spreads out the talent pool substantially.

What's the general feeling on the Rumble having/not having surprise entrants? I mean, with a title shot on the line I can understand how it can be construed as unfair that one guy has to wrestle all year to get selected while a Honky Tonk Man shows up with a guitar and wrestling boots and gets tossed in there...and yet it somehow seems to cheapen the match when all 30 participants are known. -
Oh god, not James Curtis. Anyone but James Curtis. Good for Colin Olsen, though. He must have impressed someone important at the 12/18 show because he was the local talent brought in for the j-o-b.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

At least HBK has forgiven him enough to steal his finishing maneuver. -
I've already got a subscription; if I were to sign up for this would it add a year to my subscription or would they start sending me 2 copies?
-
If Angle was in all the main events as he appears to be, does that mean that TNA is selling PPVs based on undercards rather than main events?
-
December 2 Dismember tripled the buyrates of anything TNA did this year? Wow....that's got to be depressing.
