WWE Smackdown House Show results 9/10/06

I'd be wishing the booths sold extra pairs of pants to go with their many shirt selections.

    NCAA Football 07

I'm still a fan of the 4-3. I love how it just clogs up the line and it's tougher to run up the middle because it's 5-on-4. Less holes up the gut means you can spread the LBs wide and that helps shut down the outside run.

The crowd duing the Jarrett segment ruined it for me; they were giving Jarrett an assload of heat and he completely ignored it. Just totally ignorant and made him come across as a complete buffoon, as far as I'm concerned; when the crowd is riding you, you have to do SOMETHING, you can't just keep going along with your promo like you're reading it off a cue card.

    ECW renewed on Sci-Fi

It's not really a problem but more of an annoyance. They've said a million times that this ECW is not supposed to be the same as the original ECW. So you're not going to see Justin Credible winning any World Titles in this incarnation. I'm not defending their decision, but it's seriously ridiculous that people haven't realized this after 12 weeks of programming. It's a gigantic problem since ECW fans (you know, the people that watch the show, the people that bought that Rise and Fall DVD, the people that Vince should be targetting) don't want and won't accept anything that isn't the original ECW. They're either going to have to attempt to be like the original ECW or the fans at every ECW only event are going to keep booing the majority of the show. To say "Hey look, there appears to be an audience for this product, I have an idea, let's bring back the product but get this, let's not give them what they want, let's change it completely." is the height of stupidity. It really does not get any dumber than that. And yet, ratings are double what the network expected. Couldn't be that stupid, now, could it?

    OAO Impact Thread - August/31st/2006.

Young/Shark Boy was like, five minutes long. Shark Boy got squashed, more or less; Young dodged the Shark Bite and retaliated with a Shark Bite of his own, Eric Young "connected with the crowd" with his hand gesture thing, DSD was countered and Young hit something to win (damned if I can remember what it looked like, and I don't know him well enough to know if it's his finisher). Abyss/Runt was DREADFUL. Runt rushes in, hits a lunging headbutt to the gut. Acid Drop (remember when that was his finisher?) keeps Abyss down for about a second, and struggling to get up for about four seconds while Runt gets a bag of thumbtacks off a pole in the corner. Runt hit Abyss with the bag 4-5 times, then as Abyss rolled outside, Runt pours the thumbtacks in the ring. Runt dives on Abyss, who catches him and rams him into the ringpost. Mild beatdown keeps Runt down FOREVER while Abyss and Mitchell slooooooowly set up a table off to the side of the entrance ramp, and put a platter of thumbtacks on it. Then they get ANOTHER table, and sloooooooowly bring it over, and put it on the first table; take ANOTHER platter of tacks and put it on that one (so there's a table with a platter of thumbtacks on top of a second table with a second platter of thumbtacks; these platters are about the same size as the table). After all that setup (a good five minutes by my count, including a commercial break) and Runt's still down, so Abyss (after spending so long setting up tacks + table outside the ring)....brings Runt back in. Runt with some desperation offense, goes for an Acid Drop on the tacks he poured out, but Abyss counters by just throwing Runt down into the tacks and that's the match. Abyss drags Runt (complete with about 50 tacks stuck in his back and around 25 in his left elbow) up the ramp intending to put him through the tables + tacks, but Raven with a run-in save. Raven hit three punches, went for a discus shot but Abyss caught him by the throat. Raven out with a low blow, went for a DDT, Abyss shoved him back (away from the tables). Raven with a running knee sends Abyss into the edge of the top table and through the bottom table; the tacks from the top table flew up because Abyss hit the bottom edge of it, flipping it up (he went "through" lengthwise instead of across the middle) and it rained thumbtacks on Abyss. Abyss barely threw his arms up in time to try to protect his eyes (since his mask covers most of his face). Worst IMPACT match I've seen in quite some time, as it was just finisher spot - tacks as weapon spot - set up a spot - tacks as weapon spot to win it - finish setup for spot - table + tacks spot to end the segment.

To summarize what they said in that last part (Nitro running so long) is that without Vince's segments, the cookie-cutter formula for RAW they've been using since the DX reformation left a few minutes unused, and (sadly enough) they probably didn't even notice until the Nitro segment that "Hey, we've got like 5 minutes of unused time....shit!"

WWE News and Notes - 8/28

Doubt it; Monsoon was on a lifetime contract. JR, while crucial to the company, is too fun to shove in Mr. McMahon's ass and fire when RAW needs a ratings boost to get a lifetime deal.

    OAO Raw Thread - August/28th/2006.

That was the worst promo I've heard in a long-ass time. And I watched Smackdown during the Khali days. He just went on and on and on and the crowd went from dead, to zombified (which only occurs on the rare instances that they've been dead so long, they start making noise just out of sheer boredom). The entire thing with Melina and Foley was a waste of time, as evidenced by the fact that not a single person cares more now than they did before it happened. JR's still horrified that Nitro wears the championship belt schlong protector the way he does.

    Kurt Angle released!

I thought it'd be more of a frown. He's still upset that after 20 years, he still can't shake that w-word from his company.

    Kurt Angle released!

Why would he still be subject to the 90-day no-compete clause if he got fired? I thought that was only for mutual releases (like Lesnar)?

I thought they changed from Anderson to Kennedy because of some Matrix copyright on "Mr. Anderson"...

    Kurt Angle released!

Considering how fucked up he could possibly get just by wrestling, MMA would be suicide. If he goes and gets clean, he'll be back in WWE. If he stays as stubborn as he always has and doesn't immediately go to rehab, he'll go to TNA.

The OAO Post-SummerSlam RAW for 8/21/06

I'm not going to leap into the "Did it make sense" argument, but I have this question: What did it accomplish? I mean, it was an excuse to have Foley job to Flair....and other than that, nothing. Melina is as "big" a heel as she was, and she'll still be hated more for her screeching than for hitting Foley low. It was a good idea, it wasn't even executed that poorly, but it just didn't work out.

TNA News and notes - 8/21

Roode is probably getting that spot because of his connection with D'Amore. Not that Roode is horrible, but a push like that could be given to any number of guys who are way more talented (Killings being one of them). Politics aplenty in TNA. But Roode also looks and fit the role. Ron Killings or anybody else in TNA do not. Also, considering that they just got burned by Nash (a guy whose contract was running out) I don't think that Killings or Brown will be featured much in the next 3 shows to be taped until they know they've got a contract and they'll be around. Why spend the time building up Killings for the spot when he could walk at nearly any time?

I'd settle for the porn star 'stache and the promo-opening cheap-shot at the fatties in the crowd.
  22. Is Punk a really really good seller, or did he legit injure himself on that semi-botched clothesline thing from the top rope? He landed on Credible's knee, and while Credible limped on it for like 20 seconds, Punk sold the gut injury for the rest of the match, and the ending felt a bit rushed.

They get to charge an extra hundred dollars for the replica spinner titles, and ten dollars more for spinning beltbuckles; that's why it's still around. Once sales slow down on the ridiculously overpriced replicas, they'll probably get a new belt.

Plans for Edge vs. Cena, Trish and Lita; news on HBK and MNM

Edge and Cena's match at SummerSlam will be their 16th match on TV/PPV this year. I...think that's enough. Considering they have also wrestled in the post-RAW dark match (before the DX reunion), as well as the house show circuit, I'm surprised THEY aren't sick of wrestling each other by now.

From this week's observer. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'm not sure how the ratings system goes, but couldn't all of those viewers have tuned out due to the awful Knox/Test debacle that happened a little while prior? I doubt 113,000 people would just say "Oh, fuck this, CM Punk is not my cup of tea!" Also possible that fans were uninterested because the in-house fans were shitting all over the opener (pre-barbed wire, that is). I think ratings only go every quarter-hour, I'm just assuming they don't keep by-the-minute tabs on how many people stop watching, so it's also possible that they tuned out for something in the early half of the QH and the ratings dip didn't show up until the end of the Punk match. Or maybe a lot of people don't like Justin Credible, I don't really know.
