The 2 Big Non-Title Matches at WM

Angle vs. HBK. This is a one time 'dream' match between two guys who should be retired. Let the face win. Undertaker vs. Randy Orton. If you want to piss off the fanbase you have Orton win. Since he is a face, and there is no way in hell he is ever going to be cheered over Taker, it is probably a bad idea. Fans would shit all over it if Orton won, as it just wouldn't be believable after Orton spent the last 6 months getting his ass whipped by HHH. I don't think Taker should job at Mania at all, his streak is one of the few magical things left in wrestling, but if you really want him to put someone over on the way out, it better be somebody better than Orton.

    Cena or JBL?

I don't refuse anything. I agree he'll make money and draw, but why should I enjoy something that bores me? That sounds exactly like what I was saying years ago about RVD.

Tell that to the beef industry.

    Cena or JBL?

You do the screwjob. Nobody really cares because of the Batista match later, so you can keep Cena strong and not piss off the fans. JBL can't possibly be booked any weaker than he is without picking up after Hunter's dog. He won't be damaged much by this.

HIV Positive Man charged with First Degree murder,

Good luck proving that he didn't know he was HIV positive. -=Mike It doesn't even matter. In Canadian Law, if someone dies as a result of a one of a specific offenses (sexual assualt is one of them, as is robbery), then it is an automatic first degree murder charge. Three things have to be proven here in Canada. 1) He is guilty of sexual assault. 2) He was HIV positive. 3) They are now HIV positive as a result of the sexual assault. If all three are true, then he's guilty of first degree murder. At least when they die. I'm not sure what will happen before then. He'd probably be ruled a dangerous offender anyways.

Canada says no to missle defense scheme

They will protect us, but what's to stop them from closing the border to <insert resource or product here>? Or to stop coming up here and spending their money on tourism? Economically we need them. Like I said, the missile defence system is going to be built anyways, why not just be nice to them? They won't now, but in 50 years who knows what things will be like. And I still hear some people claim (seriously) that we beat them back twice before and we can do so again. They need to remember that that was 200 years ago and when we had the strongest empire in the world backing us. We would get demolished now. And that's the problem. We need US to support to save us, but what if the US is backing an enemy power (like say Britain) or is invading us themselves? We're fucked.

    American's Slipping In Education

We are sliding down the path to poor education up here as well, and this is the primary problem. When a child is doing poorly at school, generally they get pushed along anyways, sometimes against the wishes of the parent. There is a tendency in North American to treat school as day care, and it gives absolutely no motivation to the students to do well, unless of course the child was raised to know better. They don't hold failing students back anymore until they can pass their current grade. They just advance to the next grade anyways. It is the system that is broken.

    Interesting article...

That sums it up. There are enough powerful people in this world making their careers on racism that they will make sure that it never goes away.

Canada says no to missle defense scheme

Because he's going to do it anyways, and it would be stupid to piss off your most important ally simply for moral reasons. The result is going to be the same anyways. I don't like the idea either, but basing policy on principles is idiotic. We have been mentioned by terrorists as one of their targets of nations that they plan on attacking (and yes, France & Germany have been too). We can't afford to lose US military support. Our military can't defend us because the Liberals have slashed their budget for decades. I'm not saying that we should be spineless towards the US, but if you are willing to sacrifice that much, you better make sure it is worth it, and refusing to go along with something that is going to happen anyways (any attack on North America is a threat to the US, even if it isn't the US that is being attacked directly) isn't worth that sacrifice. We also could very well see economic sanctions. Canada needs to remember that we need the US more than they need us.

    Cena or JBL?

Both challengers can't win. This is one of those 'diminishing by compositing' things. JBL has been champ 9 months, so two more months won't hurt things, and hopefully Cena taking the title is 'special' enough to focus the next SD only PPV around. It would mean a lot more than to expose SD for the B-show that it is by having him win a midcard match that'd be forgotten by the end of the night. Cena can wait. Batista, on the other hand, has to win the title at WM 21. They just can't afford to have Triple H holding the title at the end of the pay per view. Sure, they let a heel retain at WM 2000 when the WWF could do no wrong and could take those risks, but things have changed. They can't piss off that much of their fanbase on the biggest night of the wrestling year. I agree 100% with what you said. Batista HAS to win, and Cena's big win would be blown on a PPV featuring a bigger match. Also, there hasn't been enough time to build a proper Cena/JBL feud, which is the only big name feud that Smackdown has right now. Based on how JBL's been booked, all interest in the feud is done the very moment Cena gets the three count, and he's stuck with no immediate challenger. Save the big blowoff til Judgment Day. It is too early in the feud for JBL to be dropping the title.

    Playstation2 woes...

Don't bother cleaning it until the Disc Read Errors become a problem. As for the actual life of the system, since you have been okay to this point, you should be okay for awhile. It depends on the system. The original NES was pretty brittle too. And these days it is mainly with Sony. You could probably play football with a GameCube and then play it later. The PS1 had some problems, but not nearly as many as the PS2.

    Moss traded

There are enough good WRs in free agency that the Vikes can sign one of them and then draft defensive help. Great move for Minnesota. As for Moss, someone needs to tell him that Minnesota is a lot closer to the Super Bowl than Oakland is. After all, it is only a short way from Michigan, and buying tickets is the only way he is ever going to get to the game.

    RVD interview

I'm not an RVD fan, but I recognize his popularity, especially among the fanbase that would be interested in ECW. If he's not going to be there, they might as well scrap the whole thing.

    JBL Reaches Modern Day Milestone

Batista has to win. He's a monster and if he loses at Mania he will lose that mystique and never be able to get it back. Cena doesn't. He could just as easily win it in a rematch at Judgement Day or Great American Bash. Actually in many ways it might be preferable, because winning in the undercard at Wrestlemania will mean less than if he wins it in the main event of a show, especially if Batista wins in the main event. He also hasn't had that much time to build a good feud with JBL yet. I think it is better to really screw Cena over here when he has the title won, and JBL gets away somehow and keep the blowoff til later. This is the one big feud on Smackdown, and nobody will care about any rematch as soon as Cena wins the belt. There is more money to be made here by pushing it back. Part of the problem with Diesel's reign is that there were three far more popular wrestlers (Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart & Razor Ramon) stuck below him in the midcard. Bret & Shawn could have easily carried the company better at that point, and so could Hall if he was sober enough. He also had matches with both Shawn & Bret at the biggest two shows of the year in face/face matches, when the fans wanted the challengers to win. Forget Mabel, the reign was dead long before then. JBL's only real challengers were Eddy Guerrero (had his shot and couldn't handle the pressure), John Cena (not ready yet), Undertaker (pretty much a part-timer) & Kurt Angle (injured). RVD & Booker were nowhere near that level anymore. The only guy who I think might have had a shot to work was Rey Misterio, and there is no chance in hell that was ever going to happen. For much of the year JBL was carrying the show on his back. He isn't nearly as bad a champion as Diesel.

Sea levels vary naturally. They don't remain constant. Eventually they would have to move anyways. It is the risk of living near water.

OAO pre-No Way Out No Way Out thread

I liked my plan better. Ditch Heidenreich. Make the tag title match into a 6-Man with Jordan & Booker. Add Nunzio & Kidman to the cruiser match, and remove Funaki & London to have a seperate CW title match. I'd much rather watch my card.

    NHL to Cancel Season

The NHLPA rejected it and suggested $49 million. So obviously the next step should be for the owners to go up to $45 million.

OAO pre-No Way Out No Way Out thread

No. Not at all. I saw you list Triple H Vs. Batista as 25-40 as well. Again, not happening. Don't be silly. A man can dream. Show can go 25 minutes, and so can JBL so I don't see why it can't be that long. I agree that it is too much time for Batista/Trip.

At least Bush loves the enviornment....

That has nothing to do with global warming, which is what Mike is talking about. Actually I think if you read the latter half of the thread, the discussion has gone from global warming to overall pollution/toxins/poison in general. The rest of us, but Mike doesn't seem to be. No. In theory, enough melted ice could weaken (or push south) the Gulf Stream, which some people seem to think will result in another ice age. But there are two problems with this theory: 1) The Gulf Stream largely affects North-Western Europe. It doesn't reach up north enough along the North American coast to make much of an impact. The areas that it does directly affect in NA (Florida & The Carolinas) are far enough south that they would be warm anyways. It also has nothing to do with the Pacific at all. So movement in the Gulf Stream would affect the British Isles, northern France, parts of Scandinavia, and not much else. 2) There isn't nearly enough ice in the north to overpower the Gulf Stream like that. It would be a different story if there was a continent like Antarctica sitting on the north pole, but flow from the Arctic Basin is restricted and Greenland isn't nearly big enough. In a global warming scenario, the world would indeed get warmer, not cooler. It would benefit the eastern US too. New York, Ohio, New England & Pennsylvania in particular.

    NHL to Cancel Season

A 28 game season isn't credible, but they will be able to start over fresh next year with no questions. It is the lesser of two evils. If we get no deal, then next year would probably be badly damaged anyways.
