Star Wars opening 'Best Special Effect'
Kahran Ramsus replied to CBright7831's topic in Television & Film
Yes, and I believe to an extent Young Sherlock Holmes. But the real big breakthrough was Jurassic Park. Most of the time, yes. But the Gallimimus stampede looks really bad today, and it kind of sticks with me and the original Brachiosaur isn't as good as it used to be. The stuff at night and indoors looks great. But I thought overall the effects in the sequel were much better. -

I liked it that Fink announced it. Like back when Monsoon & Tunney were president. They never made the announcement themselves, they would talk to Fink and he would make it.

Who eliminated the most guys?

Cena was robbed. I hope they try to turn it into an angle on Smackdown. Batista was the right man to win though. These are just my early thoughts, so no star ratings or anything. - Rhyno vs. Maven. Garbage, and a tag title match was advertised. I wished they had done that instead. - Edge vs. HBK. It went too long considering both guys were holding back for their Rumble appearance. Could have been better if held to 12 minutes or so. - Heidenreich vs. Undertaker. Like I said in the predictions. They are trying their best to absolutely bury Heidenreich. He's not a good wrestler, but they still are being unfair. - JBL vs. Big Show vs. Angle. Good triple threat match. Not great. About what I expected. This was the match I was most looking forward too, other than the Rumble, and I was cheering for JBL all the way. - HHH vs. Orton. It had the right result, but Orton seriously looked fucked up and the match suffered for it. - Royal Rumble. Great Rumble, probably top 4. Rey, Eddy & Benoit stole the show, and there were plenty of nice moments. I loved it when RAW & Smackdown went at it to the biggest pop of the night, and the gang beatings on Puder & Hassan. I correctly predicted Eddy as #1, Batista as #28, Christian as #29 and Flair as #30, so I was happy about that. I didn't like Christian & Edge's choice in tights. I got the two confused for the time they were in the ring, kind of like Piper & Duggan in 1992.

Nope, you're right. He had knee surgery after killing Angle on Smackdown.

I don't see why you guys are surprised. Given a horror film starring Christian Slater and a horror film starring Robert DeNiro, I know which one I would pick, and I know nothing about either one.
-
Underrated. Piper/T was entertaining, as was the Battle Royal, probably my favourite non-Rumble Battle Royal in company history. Hogan/Bundy was as expected, not worse. Tito&JYD/Funk Brothers was good, and Bulldogs/Dream Team was great for the time. I actually like II far more than the first one. Wrestlemania I had nothing, except for a fun tag title match (but not nearly as good as either WM 2 tag matches), and an okay tag main event.

KOTR 1995. I ordered it to see what everyone thought was a mere formality for the PPV, namely Shawn Michaels going over three guys and becoming the King. What I got was a travesty...

He doesn't care. The Super Bowl is the big time, and he might never get back. It is the job of the Eagles to tell him they can't afford a career ending injury and need him next year. If Reid lets him play, he is making a big mistake. His job depends on more than just one game. If TO shatters his leg in a game that they probably won't win anyways, and the Eagles go 7-9 next year, is Reid going to be in a good position?

I thought Ravens/Giants had the break, and that it was literally the Super Bowl in 2000, ie the Titans/Rams one that didn't have the bye. Because I remember after Patriots/Rams everybody was talking about how they should dump the bye week, because when they do the game tends to be closer. That doesn't describe Ravens/Giants very well.

Star Wars opening 'Best Special Effect'

Jurassic Park should be on the list. It doesn't hold up that well today, but it was the first time CGI was ever used in a feature film to create realistic living creatures. It certainly deserves to be above Terminator. -
Survivor Series often stinks. Usually there is at least one non-Big 4 that is better than it, like with Backlash & No Way Out last year. The other 3 are almost always hits, except for 1999 where all three sucked. But yeah, I will always order the Rumble, even during the dark times. The Rumble match itself is worth it, no matter what the rest of the card is like. It is usually my favourite match of the year, although not necessarily the best.

Classic Royal Rumble Review
Kahran Ramsus replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in General Wrestling
? Seemed like it was pretty obvious it would be Perfect / Luger from the moment Heenan "unveiled" Luger earlier in the show. Where did you hear about Perfect / Lawler? I just figured their interaction was a nod to the AWA / Mid-South fans. You're right, it's my fault. I THINK I read that a long time ago in a Scott Keith rant, and he's been proven to be wrong over and over again. Or maybe I heard it somewhere else. Oh well. Perfect started a feud with Razor Ramon around this time too, that never went anywhere. They had a big brawl on Challenge during an interview segment. -
Classic Royal Rumble Review

1990, one of my favourite Rumbles. Ted Dibiase Koko B. Ware Marty Jannetty Jake Roberts Randy Savage Roddy Piper Warlord Bret Hart Bad News Brown Dusty Rhodes Andre the Giant The Red Rooster Ax Haku Smash Akeem Jimmy Snuka Dino Bravo Canadian Earthquake Jim Neidhart Ultimate Warrior Rick Martel Chico Santana Honkytonk Man Hulk Hogan Shawn Michaels Barbarian Ravishing Rick Rude Hercules Mr. Perfect FINAL FOUR: Mr. Perfect, Rude, Hogan, Hercules FINISH: Rude eliminates Herc, leaving Hogan 2-on-1 against the boys from Minnesota. Perfect is knocked to the apron and pulls the rope down with Rude running the ropes to eliminate him. Perfect Plex. Hulk Up. The Perfect Killer Slingshot of Death. And Perfect is hurdled over the top for Hogan's first Rumble win. HIGHLIGHTS: - Dibiase becomes the Rumble's first true Iron Man, lasting 44 minutes. - Hogan & Warrior are the only two left at one point and proceed to go at it in one of the biggest dream segments in WWE history up to that point. Hogan later accidently tosses Warrior and he comes back in to nail Barbarian & Rude. - Perfect draws the Perfect number and is cheated out of a win backstage. - Dibiase dispatches Jannetty & Koko with ease, only to have archrival Jake Roberts to come out at #4. - Bad News is eliminated by Piper, then pulls Piper out. They then brawl to the back. - Colossal Connection vs. Demolition continues. - The Piper/Dibiase/Roberts/Savage fourway which makes up my favourite mini-match in Rumble history. - Future WWE Legend Shawn Michaels gets eliminated in about 10 seconds. - One of the last actual wrestling appearances by Andre the Giant. Afterwards he would only be in tag matches with Haku doing all the work while he stood on the apron. - For the first, but not the last time, we get Martel/Santana going at it in a Rumble match. -
Is it just for the one column, or is this a weekly thing?

Batman is the only one I see being a hit. Fantastic Four should be, but the teaser didn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm.

I am not against 'paying your dues', but it should be for the early part of a career, as in pre-WWE. By the time they get to the big leagues, they should be seasoned. The problem is that Vince brings up guys long before they are ready (ex. Orton), and thus they have to learn how to work while getting a push at the same time, and it is only a chance happening if they actually get good when they are supposed to, like Brock did. Brock is ready to go right away, so keeping him in the midcard serves no purpose other than revenge.

I beat Suikoden IV last night. The IGN reviewer said something about a New Game+ so I'll have to check it out. It did ask to me to save after the credits. SO3 is okay, but make sure to turn off the voices before you poke out your own eardrums. I also can't stand that bastard Fayt. But I thought it was funny when he kept dragging his injured friends out of bed, only to have them die on him. Serves him right. Yeah I doubt it. There is still some debate whether it is even in continuity with the Xenogears. And if it is, it takes place roughly 10,000 years before it. So the absolute most you are going to get are the origins of Deus, Kain, etc. I consider FFVII one of the middle ground Final Fantasy games, but there are some problems with it. First of all, I like Cloud's backstory, but personality-wise he is really dull. Even Squall you knew why he was doing what he was doing, but you never get anything like that from Cloud. Barrett is colourful. So is Cid & Yuffie (who is annoying, but at least shows something), and Red XIII is supposed to be dull. But after that the most interesting characters are all villains. The materia system was bad. The ability to simply build up the materia and then move them to any character you want really stripped down the uniqueness of the characters. Sure in FFV, every character has the options open to them, but you build them up in a unique way throughout the game. In FFVII, you can swap in Vincent for Barrett, and the only things different about them are their Limit Breaks. I also hate the three person parties. Finally, the graphics don't hold up at all today. VIII and beyond are okay and the earlier ones have this nostalgic quality about them. FFVII just ain't that pretty to look at it. My Top 5 RPGS 1. Suikoden II 2. Final Fantasy VI 3. Xenogears 4. Final Fantasy Tactics 5. Suikoden III

WWE Championship: JBL vs. Kurt Angle vs. Big Show I don't see JBL losing the title yet, and there have been plenty of rumblings of a barbwire match with Show at No Way Out. Kurt is headed to a program with either HBK or Taker, neither of which would involve the title. WINNER: JBL World Championship: HHH vs. Randy Orton Orton got the last word on RAW, but now has a bum knee. Plus Trip just won the title two weeks ago. Orton has no chance here. WINNER: HHH Casket Match: John Heidenreich vs. The Undertaker I agree that the Ol' WWE-Trademarked Sledgehammer is normally in effect with situations such as this, but this is Undertaker we are talking about, the timing is right for the blowoff, and the company seems to have no faith in Heidenreich. He gets destroyed here and is either sent back to OVW or released. If they continue this feud to Wrestlemania, they are making a big mistake. WINNER: Undertaker Edge vs. Shawn Michaels This is just a prelude for the Rumble match, especially since Shawn can no longer go like he used to, and Edge has little experience in 30+ minute nights. They go back and forth for a few minutes before Edge snaps and gets DQd. Shawn isn't winning the Rumble, and he needs an excuse for his loss, because God forbid he ever put anyone over. WINNER: Shawn via DQ

1990 was the first sign of cracks in the company that would eventually lead to the Dark Ages.
-
You act as if that is anything new. They have been doing it pretty much every PPV since 2002. Such as HHH winning the Elimination Chamber last month. It is the biggest problem in the company as far as I'm concerned, and there are lots of problems with this company. So I take it from you guys that Whale is not like Michael Lansberg or Greg Sansone as far as doing interviews.

Michaels will be out towards the end, so if London comes out early it isn't happening.
-
Yeah, Savage is #1. Wrestlemania V had more buys than any PPV in history until 1999, ten years later. That's incredible for the small PPV audience back then. Even in 86-87, they did better than most Hogan programs. If you don't count Andre, because of their lack of action at house shows, then next is probably Orndorff who sold out shows with Hogan for most of 1986. Pretty much everybody drew with Hogan, but Savage & Orndorff were the best opponents.
