    Official Spiderman 2 Thread

People were saying that in the seventies and it weasn't true then, either. And what I said was true then too. Superman is not a relatable character in the way that Spider-Man or the X-Men are, and his stories are not representative of real life in the that those are supposed to be, or at least the film versions. Superman is larger than life, good and evil in clear colours, that sort of thing. It would be a mistake to try and modernize him. Richard Donner knew that.

Who should beat Benoit for the title?

Orton. If they are doing Orton/HHH, there is no way Orton will be cheered in that feud, face or not. Since the face has to be the one to get kicked out of Evolution (to actually get them to turn face) and chasing the title, that means Orton is the one that has to be champ. I know people don't like the idea of HHH challenging Orton, but it would be a disaster if the roles were reversed. I would actually quite enjoy it if it was Shelton that got the big face run against Orton, but that won't happen and Orton would still have to get the belt next in that scenario anyways. Edge simply isn't World Title material right now, and Kane & Jericho are non-threats. Shawn Michaels has been a joke since his return from injury, and HHH gets cheered over him as it is. HHH winning the belt is just the show spinning its wheels again. A face winning the belt is stupid since Benoit is the most sympathetic character on the show besides Eugene, and I'm not even going to consider giving him the belt.

    Super Bowl XL

I'm confused. Do you mean 40 or 39 (the next one), because if it is the latter the title is still wrong? Super Bowl XXXIX: Seattle over Denver. The Seahawks were on the verge last season, but some shoddy play from their WRs and a poor road record really let them down...and they still almost beat the Packers at Lambeau. In Seattle, they win that game and I have no doubt that they would have beaten the overrated Eagles or Rams. I don't think they would have beaten the Panthers, but they can expect a fallback this year, leaving Seattle as the team to beat in the NFC. Denver is greatly improved over a year ago with the Champ/Portis deal. Portis is great, but then Denver always has great RBs no matter who it is. Champ is more valuable to them. New England is a great team and if anybody of this era can repeat as champs, it is them, but I'm worried that they get lethargic in much the same way that the Bucs did last year. PLAYOFFS: Wildcard Weekend Green Bay d. Washington Atlanta d. St. Louis New England d. Tennessee Baltimore d. Cincinnatti Divisional Playoffs Seattle d. Green Bay Atlanta d. Philadelphia Denver d. New England Indianapolis d. Baltimore Championships Seattle d. Atlanta Denver d. Indianapolis Superbowl XXXIX: Seattle d. Denver I will go out on a bit of limb for Super Bowl XL since it is so far away in the day of free agency and say that Detroit knocks down the Jaguars.

The problem with Superman is that the character doesn't adapt well to the modern day in general, certainly not in the way that Spider-Man does. They would be better off setting it in the 30s and doing a homage of the Golden Age, similar to what Raiders of the Lost Ark did for the old serials. In that case the original costume makes perfect sense.

We are right. Your argument is that nobody will have a problem with blue and yellow spandex in the film. We do have a problem with it, therefore invalidating your argument. Whether you care or not is immaterial to the fact that the viewing public would not take these characters seriously. And if you think Logan is bad, just imagine if Jean Grey was wearing that thing from the 90s series. *shudders*

    Fantasy Keeper Question

What is the scoring system? If passing TDs are worth the same as running TDs, keep Hasselbeck. If running TDs are worth more, keep McNabb.

Too late for RVD and Booker T?

Booker T was World Champion. If you mean again, then yes. The time to put it on him was at Wrestlemania XIX. That was sort of a last gasp for him. Now he just doesn't have the interest anymore in wrestling that he used too and wants to retire within the next year. RVD may not be in the company next month. It is too late to do anything with him unless he resigns.

And Jays fans. I'm so depressed I don't even post about them anymore, otherwise I would be bitching constantly.

Some notes from your new Forum Mod

I always understood that major happenings, like say the Shaq deal, would be posted in their own seperate threads. It is obviously up to the discretion of the poster and the mods to decide what is important or not. The swapping of two minor leaguers isn't big news. OAOs have their place for stuff like the NFL Draft, where you don't want 30 threads for each of the first round picks. I agree about most of your concerns though. They are certainly overused.

  14. Austin/Bret was awesome, and the Taker/Kane/Shawn thing was interesting, but there was a BIG gap in the midcard aside from the Hart Foundation with the Gang Wars going on. Plus, much of the year featured filler guys like the luchas and midgets because the roster wasn't big enough to fill out the show. It started improving towards the very end of the year, but it was much too late. It was a good year, but it had too many flaws to compare with 1992 or 2000. I would probably have it 3rd or 4th in the post-Wrestlemania era, competing with 1989 (the year of Hogan/Savage and a stacked midcard with the likes of Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, the Brainbusters, Rockers, Harts, Dibiase, etc. running wild). EDIT: Yes, I am referring to quality, not financial success.
  15. It is much better than the horrible 1999 which was one of the worst years in the history of the company creativily, but much worse than the recovery in 2000 which was the best year since 1992. 1999 featured such gems as the HHH push of doom, 8 months before he finally got over at Royal Rumble 2000, Billy Gunn as KOTR, Vince McMahon as Royal Rumble winner, Vince McMahon as WWF Champion, Vince McMahon as the Higher Power, Vince McMahon main eventing no less than 4 PPVs (Royal Rumble, SVDM, KOTR, Armageddon), Owen Hart's death, Chyna as IC Champ and going over Jeff Jarrett & Chris Jericho, Kennel in a Cell, Big Bossman in a World Title feud over Big Show's dead dad, This is Your Life Rock!, nonsensical turns for no reason (Mark Henry and Big Show turned heel/face about 30 times combined that year), Shane McMahon gets his taste for in the ring action, Mae Young & Moolah return for the first time, the Undertaker crucifying victims, the Ministry in general with such classic workers as Viscera & Mideon, the worst Royal Rumble ever, the worst Wrestlemania ever, the worst King of the Ring this side of Mabel, a terrible Summerslam, and the worst Survivor Series ever to top it off. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. How anybody can say that 1999 was any good at all from any standpoint but financial, I will never understand.

Yes they do.......they did it for 30 years......... And it looks as bad now as it ever did. The outfits that they had during Morrison's run or in Ultimate X-Men are greatly improved over the classics. Do you want people laughing at Hugh Jackman for 2 hours?

About the costumes, it isn't so much the lack of realism for the spandex as it is that the comic costumes look rediculous, especially for the X-Men. No self-respecting psychotic badass killing machine goes around wearing bright yellow, I'm sorry.

Jack Black to play Green Lantern?

http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=17971 This is popping up elsewhere as well, so it seems to be true. WB execs are rapidly becoming as bad as Eisner and company over at Disney.

So who do think will win?

I'm afraid Bush will, but it really is too close to call at this point. It just seems that 99% of the Democrats campaign strategy is simply bashing Bush, and as much as I would like to see him lose, that isn't very effective. The biggest voice for the Democrats right now is Michael Moore, and he's more likely to send voters to the Republicans than gain any. We just watched the Conservatives get defeated in Canada by a few blowhards who couldn't keep their mouths shut and simply gave ammunition to Martin, and the Democrats seem to be experiencing the same thing now in the US with guys like Moore.

That's the issue. Venom is too otherworldly for the mood that Raimi has set up in these films. I know people that were taken out of the film just because they said John Jameson walked on the moon. The mainstream audience will not accept some alien storyline in these films, at least unless you go completely over-the-top which is not what Raimi is intending to do. There are too many other villains that could work with fairly minor adjustments (costume changes, etc) such as Scorpion, Electro, or Mysterio (aside from the obvious in Lizard and Green Goblin II, which Raimi is already setting up). People are going to see Spider-Man no matter who the villain is, as long as the film is good and you don't scare them away with rediculous outerspace stuff. You COULD do something similar to Ultimate Venom, but then all the fanboys who are complaining now would complain that that isn't the real Venom, so what's the point? Not to mention that there are many comic fans that hate the character. He is very polarizing, you either love him or hate him for the most part. There are far less risky villains to use.

Jack Black to play Green Lantern?

I'm beginning to wonder if WB execs have too much money and are just doing this to piss people off and have a good laugh about it.

Visually, Venom would be a cinch to pull off. Character-wise is the issue. Let's face it, Venom hardly has the depth of Green Goblin, Doc Ock, or even Lizard.
  24. I actually do, hey memories of watching A-Rod go into the tank in the second half and nearly cost the M's the playoffs in 2000 will do that to you. What about Miguel Tejada or Edgar Renteria or Nomar Garciaparra or Michael Young? There are several shortstops better than Jeter.
