It was more civil because the generation just got through the Great Depression and World War II and realized how much worse things could be. In the 1850s it was worse than now.

I disagree. The first 100 years of American politics were just as or more polarized than the next 100, even though the public wasn't nearly as educated. You also notice that many of the biggest loudmouth extremists are either the homeless hippies (for the left) and redneck hicks (for the right). Neither are what I would call the most educated demos in America. I think it has to do with the fact that fanatics develop a cult following the way moderates never can, and this support is extremely vocal. The media also tries to push this as hard as they can because controversy=ratings.

This isn't just exclusive to politics. Many Americans are very stupid. How else can you explain that J-Lo is a huge star and that the average joe considers Derek Jeter the best shortstop in baseball?

Bush promotes measure against gay marriage
Kahran Ramsus replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
Which is why I am in favour of gay marriages. The Bible is a moral code, not a legal one. I don't believe in legislating stuff based on morals. I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, but if you want to marry a member of the same sex, then that's your business and the government and everyone else should stay out of it. -
The last time I remember seeing Benoit use the Liontamer on a regular basis was at Fall Brawl 1996 against Jericho. He did manage to bring it out of mothballs against Angle at Backlash 2001.

In kayfabe he's not. That's why he loses all the time. Undertaker would be a good wrestler because he wins all the time.

Bush promotes measure against gay marriage

There is no single Protestant church. There are several different ones. -
Yes. He was injured in a match against Garrison Cade and is out until September. I agree more closely with ****1/4 rating for Orton/Edge. Yes, there were restholds, but they actually were a big part of the storyline of the match, with Orton working on the weakened neck of Edge. This comes into play later both as a setup for the RKO and because of Edge bouncing off the turnbuckles like a pinball in the last 5 minutes. I will take a nicely wrestled match like Orton/Edge with a clean finish, over a big dumb brawl featuring interference by Bischoff and a man who doesn't belong in the ring anymore. This is the best singles match that either guy has had.

Wooooonderful <_< Unless somebody rises out of nowhere (like Brock Lesnar did), I really don't see anything else happening. The only other guy that is credible and being pushed hard enough is Benoit, and I don't see him headlining again. HHH is going to be there, and he fought Benoit last year. That leaves Orton. The only other guy I can see that might have a shot is Shelton Benjamin, and that would have to fall in the meteoric rise category, so it is a less likely prospect right now. This is assuming that they keep the split. Another couple of options open up if they recombine the rosters, Eddy & Taker. One is good, the other I would rather see Orton there than.

Tajiri misted Coach on RAW, so he got his buddy Cade to help him and they did the old Mystery Partner gag. Bad buildup is different than no buildup. It was better than Badd Blood too. It is arguable with Backlash. Backlash had the better main event, but this featured better wrestling throughout the card. I guess it comes down to Orton/Foley vs. Orton/Edge and which you prefer. I much prefer the latter (I like good wrestling better than good brawling generally), so I put this over Backlash.

I believe that is called an inconclusive finish in order to stretch out their feud. If nothing comes of it, then you are right. We won't know for a little bit. I agree on this. Kane has been so neutered recently that I'm wondering if HHH hates him as much as he does Jericho. I like Matt and all, but realistically he should have been leaving in a body bag. And thus begins his main event push... Right now I would not be surprised to see him win the belt from Benoit rather than HHH. This would start an Orton/HHH feud over the belt that would go til Wrestlemania. This was planned for a couple of months now, except with Shelton getting the belt instead (the injury prevented it). Shelton's booking made it pretty obvious that he was going to take the title in the summer. It had to be done. If Eugene turns on HHH intentionally, it hurts his naive character. If Eugene helps HHH win, he gets booted from Evolution tomorrow and leads to Eugene/HHH, a very dull main event. They went with the choice that gave them the most options.

He got two straight submission victories at Wrestlemania & Backlash and would have had one here without the ref. Benoit had to fight off four guys here. He didn't look weak.

WWE News & Notes from the 7/12 Observer

Rick Rude could have been the biggest heel of the mid-90s if he didn't get hurt. -
It wasn't even my MOTN, but it was certainly great drama. Best PPV since Wrestlemania.
-
Good. Now just get rid of Claremont and we're all set.

HBK also main evented the next ppv, while Benoit (the champion) did not. I'd say Benoit still needs a good one on one W againt Shawn. That had absolutely nothing to do with HBK, and everything to do with the guy standing across the ring. If Benoit was fighting HHH, and presumably jobbing to him, he would be in the main event too.

WWE Ratings Report (Raw, Heat, Velocity)
Kahran Ramsus replied to strummer's topic in The WWE Folder
I can't see Velocity much anymore, now that it isn't on at 10. -
They were clearly carrying the FF around in this episode. It is the one in the green envelope.

By the IWC, Who is is the most Overrated Wrestler
Kahran Ramsus replied to a topic in General Wrestling
HBK fans are even worse. -
House shows I believe are the #2 money maker behind PPVs. It would be disasterous financially to get rid of them.

Between Eddy & HHH it is close. Eddy is a better worker for other reasons, but they are pretty close in terms of psychology and bringing the crowd into a match. Occasionally you will see Eddy make a mental gaff out there though, which I really don't see HHH do. HHH is much better than Misterio at this, but that is Misterio's weakest aspect as a wrestler. Misterio is a better wrestler, he's more talented, but HHH is a smarter one. I am merely stating that HHH is underrated around here, because people hate him and he isn't a very flashy wrestler. HHH is not nearly at the level of Benoit, Eddy, Rey Rey, Jericho or a healthy Angle, but there is a HUGE dropoff in talent after those five and HHH has enough plusses that I would put him as the top guy of the next big group of wrestlers. Noble has the potential to join the top group, but he needs more experience with longer matches, preferably against those guys. Noble/Eddy is a match that I would love to see.
-
That too.
-
I have him at #6, behind Benoit, Eddy, Rey Rey, Jericho & HHH. I don't consider Angle an active wrestler anymore. HHH is underrated here because people hate him so much and he had a bad run for a year or so after coming back from injury. He still knows how to work a match better than practically anybody else in the company besides Benoit, despite a rather poor moveset (which knocks him below Eddy, Rey Rey & Jericho).

I still like him. Nobody writes better reviews, even if his opinions have been a little off for awhile.

I couldn't disagree more. Ock was the one who forced Harry to take the deal, not the other way around. Ock's orginal deal had nothing to do with Spidey. It was only after Harry told him to get him did Ock actually go after Spidey. Ock was getting Spidey for Harry, and after Harry would reward him with what Ock wanted. I call that a henchman. But Ock initiated the deal. It wasn't Harry who went after Ock.
