    NFL WEEK ONE

I'll be doing my picks in the KKK Thread, but I'll comment on these discussion questions. 1. What team will suffer a catastrophic injury in week one? The Chargers. 2. How well will an injured Shawne Merriman perform against what's certainly going to be a stiff running attack from Carolina? See Question #1. 3. Will a Favre-free Green Bay continue last season's success against a highly-rated Minnesota team? Minnesota is overrated and losing McKinnie hurts. Also the Packers will be fired up for this one after what happened in the off-season. There might be rough waters ahead for the Pack, but they should take this game and it might be easier than people think. 4. Will the Giants without Osi put enough pressure on Washington to hold court at home? No. Campbell has looked pathetic in the pre-season, but this is still a talented team that still made the playoffs last year despite the tragedy they went through. New York happened to get hot at the right time, and now have lost their two best pass rushers to retirement and injury. I have the Redskins heading to the playoffs and the Giants playing golf in January and it starts on Thursday. 5. Which team will make a statement in the NFC south? New Orleans or Tampa Bay? Saints. History suggests it. Since the creation of this division, no team has won it in back to back years and I don't believe Tampa can either with the key members of their passing game one step away from retirement. New Orleans has problems on defence as always, but for now they are healthy on offence and there is just too much firepower there for Tampa to handle. I like both, but it is the change that wasn't made that bothers me. They really need to do something about Pass Interference calls. Those things often determine the outcomes of games and coaches really need to have the ability to challenge them.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

I'm glad people are picking guys who will work well together as opposed to just calling out the biggest names available.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

I say go for the two picks. I don't think anybody here will argue it. It is the traditional method for these things.

I agree on doing a tournament based on votes.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

I like the idea of them being both, because that is what they are. But at the end of the 35 rounds, just for purposes of categorizing them whoever drafts someone like Eastwood needs to specify whether they want to classify them as a director or an actor. It doesn't say in the first post, but I assume this is a serpentine draft (first pick in odd number rounds is the last in even number rounds), correct?

    Actors/Actress Draft!

He's a better director than actor, IMO.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

I would count that as one pick since they always direct movies together.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

It is smaller, but you only need five. I think that may end up being easier than getting 30 great actors. Speilberg & Kubrick were always going to be first rounders. I knew when I made my pick that they wouldn't be available to me later.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

Alright. I get my favourite actor of all-time. Eight time Academy Award nominee, Peter O'Toole!

    I'm okay with that.

    Actors/Actress Draft!

I'm not too interested in pitching a movie, so if we decide on that somebody can take my spot. EDIT: Actually, scratch that. I'll do it anyways. I have a good idea for a movie that I would like to do.

Can I be in this one?

Lets talk about the 24/7 era Hardcore title

24/7 was a good angle building up to the Hardcore Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 2000. It really should have been dropped after that because the entire point of the angle was to build to that match and there was nowhere to go with it afterwards.

That's fine. I just didn't know what we were supposed to do.

I think the biggest snub was Papa Bear. 6 NFL Championships and 318 wins. The guy's a legend.

    The NFL Preseason Thread.

I expect the Packers to end up around 8-8. The offense will be okay. Rodgers has been playing well for the most part and he certainly has weapons. I expect some silly mistakes and a handful of bad games, but he will be good enough to silence most critics and will be much improved next year. My big concern is the depth along the defensive line. They'll scare nobody and if Harris or Woodson go down in the secondary the defense is in big trouble. They may push it to 10-6 (which would probably be enough for the NFC North title) with a bit of luck. If the Packers get into the playoffs they will be extremely dangerous, consistency rather than talent is the problem with this team. The NFC North will be a close division. The Packers & Vikings aren't as good as many people think and the Bears & Lions aren't as bad.

What the fuck ever. It's impossible for them to not win the AFC West. They're going to be fine. I wouldn't say impossible. Unlikely yes, but Denver isn't that bad. But this was a team looking at the Super Bowl, not just making the playoffs. They won't do that without Merriman.

Perfect timing to put the belt on a guy

We have a winner! It turned the WWF from the #3 promotion to the kings of the wrestling world and ended up killing the AWA in the long run. A couple of others come to mind as being major screwups in retrospect. One is a match we have been talking about quite a bit in other threads, but Lex Luger should have won the title at Summerslam 1993. He was never able to recover after that, and was buried after failing to win the title yet again at Wrestlemania X. The other occurred 10 years later at the same show as the audience was practically dying for Goldberg to take the title from HHH in the Elimination Chamber and it failed to happen. Goldberg won the title a month later, but his momentum was stopped dead after the defeat at Summerslam so nothing of value came from it.

Warner threw 27 TDs last year in 11 starts and parts of three other games and with him the Cardinals could challenge for the division title. I don't care if he's 80, the right move is to start him.

    Discussion: Possible DC Universe Movies

That will happen anyways. They thought that about Batman Begins & The Incredible Hulk too and they did retell the origin, or at least reshow in the case of TIH. Now I have no problem with a revamp or a reboot or whatever, but what I don't want is another film where we spend much of the film on an origin story and we don't even see Superman for the first 40 minutes or so. That story has been done, and it has been the only Superman story that has actually been done well on film. There is so much more they can do with the character, and it doesn't solve the big problem people had with Superman Returns which is that there wasn't enough action in it. People aren't going to get that if much of the film is spent on Clark Kent learning about his powers. If what we are getting is essentially a remake of STM, I'm not going to even bother watching it.

    The NFL All-Time Draft.

Since time appears to have expired, I will make my final pick. P Tom Tupa * Pro Bowl selection (1999) * All-Pro selection (1999) * Super Bowl champion (XXXVII)

If Scott Hall and Kevin Nash stayed in the WWF

Hall probably would have been fired before too long if he didn't jump. He was beginning to cause lots of problems around that time and hadn't done much since the Goldust feud. Diesel though was on fire in early 1996. After a terrible 1995 he was getting extremely over with his tweener character. He would have been World Champion again by the end of the year. In the long run, both promotions are worse off as the wrestling boom doesn't happen. Hogan stays a face in WCW and takes the title back from Flair in the summer. Hall's career is basically over by the end of the year. Without Nash leaving, Austin's rise to the top never happens and he continues to stay in the midcard for a few years before retiring.

    Discussion: Possible DC Universe Movies

I just hope we don't get the origin story again. I can understand wanting to ignore what happened in the last film, but we've already had basically the perfect Superman origin in the Richard Donner version. We've seen it already. And it will inevitably lead to a competition with the previous version, which the new version will lose unless WB has found a way to bring Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando back from the dead. It worked for Batman, Bond, etc. because those were origins that weren't shown on screen before. They were already in the prime of their career from the beginning of the franchise.

    The NFL All-Time Draft.

Agree 100% on that one. Players need to be judged based on their own generation. I did the same thing with my RT and several of my defensive players.
