5 Greatest Intercontinental Champions
Kahran Ramsus replied to Darth Vader's topic in General Wrestling
1. Randy Savage. When he was IC Champion, he was truly the #2 draw in the company and was a huge boost to the title. He had a long reign, and it boosted him to bigger and better things within a year of losing the title in the WWF match of the decade. This is basically the picture-perfect way the IC Title should be used. 2. Bret Hart. He went from tag team wrestler to WWF Champion by virtue of this belt and series of great matches against the likes of Curt Hennig, Roddy Piper, Shawn Michaels & Davey Boy Smith. He lost the belt for the final time a year after winning it for the first time and was WWF Champion a month later. 3. Ultimate Warrior. He went from midcard act who came out of nowhere in 1988 to demolish Honky for the title, and aside from a fluke loss to Rick Rude, crushed everybody all the way to Wrestlemania VI where as IC Champion he gave Hulk Hogan his first (and only) clean pinfall loss of his WWF run from 1984-1993. 4. Razor Ramon. While it didn't exactly boost his career as much as the others above him, for approximately 3 1/2 years in the mid-90s the belt seemed to be on him more than not. He is one of the defining aspects of that period. 5. Honky Tonk Man. Sometimes considered the greatest IC Title reign of all time, I have it #2 behind Savage's. It was certainly the longest, and the demise of Honky is one of my all-time biggest mark out moments. -
The Undertaker tears his bicep.

Given his push, he seems likely to win one of the real belts sooner or later. -

The difference is that he was stripped of it for leaving, not because of a controversial finish to the match. Had he stayed, he still would have been champion. -

Benoit is a two-time world champion, although I agree he probably won't get a world title again. -
Chris Jericho had a losing streak angle in 1997-98 that led to the heel turn that turned him into a star.

No. HHH wasn't over initially during his main event push, but he certainly was by early 2000 which was less than a year after his big turn at Wrestlemania XV. Orton has been getting heavily pushed since 2003 and still isn't over. There is a big difference between ten months and 3 1/2 years. So are you saying Randy Orton was never over? If thats what you are trying to saying, then you clearly don't know what are you talking about. He was over for a bit in 2004 during the Foley feud and immediately after but he couldn't sustain it. Even then it was closer to HHH in July 1999 than HHH in February 2000. Since his abysmal title run, he's been nowhere near over enough for his position on the show. He was also over during his feuds with The Undertaker and Rey Mysterio. Not really, no. I was about to say the same thing.

I'd be surprised if OotP does as well as GoF, if only because it is a darker, more depressing story and because the winter season has proven to get better returns for the Harry Potter franchise than the summer season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Shrek is #1 either, but given the hype and amount of anticipation for the film I would have to say that POTC3 is probably going to end up the highest grossing of the lot. Fantastic Four 2 is your bust. It is the big budget sequel to a film that lots of people saw, but that few people actually liked, and the most of the hype for the film is of the negative variety. I can't see it doing as well as the first one did, even if it surprises and is actually good.

FFIX was actually my favourite of the PS1 Final Fantasy's, and my favourite post SNES one until FFXII came out.

1. John Cena 2. HHH 3. Undertaker 4. Vince McMahon 5. Shawn Michaels 6. Rey Misterio 7. Dave Batista 8. RVD 9. Jeff Hardy 10. Kane TNA has some guys that could be draws if handled correctly, but have been booked into oblivion, so the list is WWE only. Cena & HHH are by far the two biggest stars in the promotion right now. I could see placing HHH over Cena, but nobody else cracks the top two. Edge probably should be on the list, but I never here from anybody who watches a show because Edge is on it. Jeff Hardy, Kane and probably even Booker T seem to be more well known than Edge is.

Norton's quite the talent, but I would have thought that he'd have something better to do than starring in a Hulk movie. He's really above the material at this point.

I might actually be willing to wear Shirt #2.

Especially considering that the GameCube had a surplus of systems out there. I'm sure the number of Cubes that didn't sell was on Nintendo's mind here. I've seen them in stores since sometime in January anyways. Now not all the time (like the PS3), but it is certainly not that difficult to find one in this area anymore.

The same thing happened with me and Jeff Francis.

Umaga isn't nearly as bad as Khali, but you're dreaming if you think in-ring ability is his appeal. He does well with his character and at the very least makes people notice him, which is what I was saying. Orton is flat out boring compared to any other upper midcarder or main eventer in the company. He's got a standard look, has a standard moveset, has standard interviews and as a consequence nobody cares about him unless he does something stupid backstage and that isn't positive heat. There is nothing unique about him.

Orton has been a victim of bad booking sure, but it isn't his biggest problem. Even as an in-ring wrestler he is pretty good. But he is so bloody generic in every aspect of his character and style that I can't see him ever getting a sustained positive reaction, either as a face or a heel. His promos in particular come off as more whiny than cocky, and that isn't a good thing. Say what you will about the talent of guys like John Cena & Triple H, but people notice when they come to the ring. They have charisma that Orton lacks. Edge was as bad as Orton as a face, but he was able to use his natural charisma to build off of his heel turn and became a top guy because of it. Guys like Chris Benoit & Dave Finlay aren't the best talkers by any stretch of the imagination, but they have a great ring presence and have stayed consistantly over for years because of it (especially Benoit). RVD blows in the ring and on the mic, but his laid back persona appeals to a large number of the fans, especially young males. Even Khali & Umaga, who are terrible wrestlers, have that freakshow image that make people take notice. Orton is simply boring, which is about the worst thing you can be in professional wrestling. He's the most bland character on the show, aside from maybe Bobby Lashley. There is nothing about Orton that stands out aside from his frequent suspensions and the recent steroid scandal. And those aren't things to build a career off of.

OAO WrestleMania 23 Thread-April 1st, 2007

Because it was more important that Undertaker look strong heading into the battle of the monsters with Batista, than HBK who is more of an underdog character. Also, Taker had never won the Rumble before whereas Shawn won twice. -
At least they actually play Philly at home this year.
-
My thoughts exactly. They were showing this when I switched off the Jays game and that is a win by Michaels if I've ever seen one. No part of Orton is covering Michaels, whereas he is clearly pinning Orton.
-
True. Otherwise they could just release WCW/NWO Revenge, which I enjoyed more than No Mercy to begin with.

He's the #1 heel, but he's not a main eventer? I don't quite follow you. He's never going to be HHH. Think of him as being in the Kurt Angle role where he can go back to the top of the show at any time. -

My problem with Taker jobbing to Edge is that it would be rather pointless. Edge wouldn't really gain a rub from it unless he really falls off in the next year. He's pretty much got nowhere higher to go in the card than he is right now. His career's already been made.
