XIV is overrated too. The main event is good, but the rest of the card is riddled with bad matches and poor finishes. Even that which was done right (the tag title match) was undone in short order on RAW.

Agreed on your first criticism, but I like the ticker.

Green Bay badly needs an upgrade in the running game and Dillon isn't going to do it. If Lynch is there at 16, it would be a mistake to pass on him.
-
Well, you can kiss those twenty minute Benoit/Finlay or Benoit/Regal matches goodbye.

They wanted to build towards the title change taking place at Wrestlemania X. And it might have, had Lex not bombed royally. Did Luger bomb because of the Summerslam match or was he likely heading down that road anyways?

Fall 1991-Spring 1992. In the WWF you had Ric Flair jumping with the NWA World Title, Savage/Roberts, the rise of Bret Hart, the fantastic events surrounding Royal Rumble, and more. It was such a fun period which ended up almost being a passing of the torch thing as the old guard from the 80s were moving on and the next generation was taking over (Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, etc.). In WCW you had the Dangerous Alliance/Kip Frey period which would be the best the company would see until 1996.

The coin toss happened at the Combine.

Thanks. I knew he was around a couple of years ago for his HoF induction, but sadly with the frequency of wrestling deaths these days I can barely remember who's alive and who isn't from that period.

But neither Porter nor Moss are on good terms with the Raiders nor really reliable at this point. Between suspensions and injuries how much time did they miss last year. With so many question marks about both QBs (Quinn & Russell) and so many question marks with your top two WRs, wouldn't it make more sense to take the most talented player in the draft #1.
-
Brutal. Its true though. What is the Raiders reasoning for not drafting Johnson #1 overall. He seems clearly the most talented player in the draft at this point and he definitely fills a need for them on and off the field. I'm just curious why it has never been considered when it seems on paper to be such an obvious pick for them to make.

Nah, Fuji has to be inducted by The Magnificent Muraco...if he's still alive.

When one program clearly creates a new star

Yes. That was the match where HHH brought the sledgehammer into the ring and decided not even to bother hitting Orton with it because he was beaten anyways. Orton's run was the most mishandled for what was supposed to be a big time face that I've seen since Lex Luger failed to win the title at Summerslam 93. -

Orton's title reign certainly deserves mention amongst the weakest ever. On his first night as champ he got punked out by his buddies, spent the next month running away from them, then when he finally got HHH in a title match he lost. That was a complete joke of a reign. -
I've also seen no indication from Benoit that he is even the type to be upset about his push. He was complaining about the lack of time off around this time last year, but I can't remember much else. Didn't he just sign a new contract in the summer?

They'll draft one. Or at least they should.

Rob Van Dam. Wins the WWE Championship and is given the ECW Championship within a week, only to get arrested a short time later suspended and jobbed out, losing both titles within a day of each other. -
Me too. Even my scratched to hell, overplayed copy of MVP 2004 that won't even play on my Gamecube anymore.
-
Maybe I should have picked the '93 team.

I'm not just saying this because it was the first prediction that I got wrong, but I am flat out stunned that Pan's Labyrinth didn't win Best Foreign Film. That has to be one of the biggest shocks ever.

While I will certainly agree that the Bret/Bulldog program made Davey Boy Smith, and he pretty much lived off that one match for the rest of his career, Bret was already a star by that point. Even if you disagree that the Perfect/Hart program made him a star, then he was certainly made after the Piper program for Wrestlemania VIII. -
Anyone still doubting that this is a realistic playoff simulator? Yes. The real A-Rod wouldn't have had those 6 RBIs.

Yeah, this was what I was talking about earlier where Shawn became a superstar because of the Diesel program leading up to Wrestlemania XI. -

I understand your viewpoint, but I must disagree. Shawn Michaels did very well in that feud, but he still spent the rest of the year as the colour commentator on RAW and Diesel's cornerman. What really made HBK into a maineventer was the Diesel feud starting at Survivor Series 1994. I've seen Bret Hart mentioned here a few times for making stars out of people, so I think it would be appropriate to mention the program that turned Hart into a star, that with Curt Hennig over the IC Title in 1991. He had an intial failed singles run in 1989 and was fresh off jobbing the tag titles to the Nasty Boys at Wrestlemania. In 1992 he got to beat Roddy Piper clean at Mania, mainevented both Summerslam & Survivor Series and won the WWF Championship. That match at Summerslam 1991 was huge for him. -
I'm concerned about this. The Smackdown PPVs last year were all good because the shittiness of the other two brands wasn't present. This year we get RAW & ECW guys at No Way Out and surprise, surprise...it sucks. Maybe if they focused on wrestling instead of lousy Russo-esque angles, more people would be interested in the PPVs.

This isn't just WWE though. What did Harley Race ever do in the WWF? Verne Gagne was never even in the company to my knowledge. Both are still in the Hall.
