The One and Only "Casino Royale" Thread
Kahran Ramsus replied to Jonathon's topic in Television & Film
Pacing isn't so much my issue, as I simply thought the movie went on too long. I really enjoyed up until Le Chiffre gets capped and they leave Montenegro. The last 20-30 minutes is just dull. The fight in Venice itself is interesting, but it really felt tacked on, and I didn't buy the Bond/Lynd love story. Craig himself is a good Bond, certainly more comfortable than Dalton in the role, but Connery is still the standard-bearer. Basically Craig & Dalton could play the cold-hearted killer. Moore & Brosnan could play the charming gentleman. Lazenby couldn't do either. Connery is the only one who could do it all, and pretty much at the same time at that. -
I'll leave out Casino Royale for now, although it probably comes in at about #7. It is certainly better than YOLT, but I can't say I liked it as much as Dr. No. 1. Goldfinger (THE James Bond movie. Everybody knows this one and for good reason. Practically every film afterwards save OHMSS, LTK & CR is pretty much a copy of the same formula created in this film.) 2. From Russia With Love (Much more serious than the later films, it is the style that Casino Royale is hoping to revive. It drags a little bit in the middle, so it isn't quite as good as Goldfinger, but the Orient Express sequences are the best in the entire series.) 3. Goldeneye (It essentially saved the franchise back in 1995 and brought Bond out of the Cold War.) 4. The Spy Who Loved Me (Probably the most pure fun film in the series, outside of Goldfinger. Fantastic stunts, good Bond girl, Carly Simon, the Lotus Espirit and Jaws before he was ruined. What more could you want?) 5. For Your Eyes Only (The film that showed that Roger Moore could play a serious Bond.) 6. Dr. No (Overshadowed by the two giants that followed it, but it is a very nice spy thriller in its own right.) 7. You Only Live Twice (Most people would probably put Thunderball over this, but I found this one to be the more exciting of the two. I still consider Donald Pleasance to be the one true Blofeld.) 8. Thunderball (The weakest of Connery's initial five, which still makes it better than pretty much anything that followed.) 9. The World Is Not Enough (Yes, Denise Richards is horrible. But having a female lead villain who would seduce the lead male characters, Bond & Renard, to do her bidding was fresh and it has some of the best action scenes in the series. One of the most underrated Bond films.) 10. Live and Let Die (Moore's first outing is a bit out there with all the supernatural elements, but is a lot of fun with a good villain, good Bond girl, and some classic stunts like the bit with the alligators and subsequent boat chase. Best theme music of the series too.) 11. Licence to Kill (Robert Davi owns this movie, and is one of the best villains in the series.) 12. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (If Connery was in this, it would be top five. Lazenby drags the entire movie down. There is a lot of great stuff here, but it ultimately ends up being the equivalent of the Indianapolis Colts lining up on Super Bowl Sunday with Jim Sorgi at quarterback. It just doesn't work.) 13. Tomorrow Never Dies (Solid action film. I enjoyed it enough, it just wasn't very memorable aside from the remote control car.) 14. Octopussy (Roger Moore's equivalent of Tomorrow Never Dies. Solid, nothing spectacular.) 15. The Living Daylights (Dalton is actually better here than in Licence to Kill, but the villains are weak and although the first half of the film is pretty good, the Afghanistan sequence is brutal.) 16. Die Another Day (A tale of two films. Everything up to the point Bond goes to Iceland is good. Everything afterwards is horrible.) 17. The Man with the Golden Gun (A good villain doesn't save it.) 18. A View to a Kill (A good villain doesn't save it #2, only Moore is 10 years older.) 19. Moonraker (Almost a parody, but at least there is some fun in it.) 20. Diamonds Are Forever (That Connery is in this and missed OHMSS is the greatest tragedy in the history of the series.)

Continuing the injury parade this weekend, Aaron Rodgers is out for the season with a broken foot.

Do people still think Peyton Manning should be MVP over Tomlinson?
-
I don't think the Chos understood that this is a race. I would have ditched them long before 'Bama did.

Picked it up this morning. That Wii Sports (especially bowling) is quite addictive. I haven't managed to get my family this interested in a videogame in years.
-
All I know is that I would rather spend money on a guy who should end up in the Hall of Fame over some guy from Japan who hasn't pitched a game of MLB in his life. Thomas fills a big hole in the lineup after Hillenbrand went nutty.
-
Ladanian Tomlinson. He's on pace to break the TD record set by Alexander last year, and he's got the Chargers at 7-2 with essentially a rookie QB.

Yankees vs. Red Sox is the baseball equivalent of Hitler vs. Stalin.

I think it was all bullshit just to swerve internet fans. I mean c'mon, Spider-Man without Venom? See all Spider-Man comics from 1962-1988. Venom isn't nearly as important as Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus.

Yep. Otherwise the rest of the season would just be the Colts victory parade and nobody wants to see that.

WON News + Notes - November 13th
Kahran Ramsus replied to The Decemberists's topic in The WWE Folder
Aside from DX, Cena gets the most favorable reactions. Unlike DX, Cena actually keeps and draws in the ratings. Cena is clearly the top face in the company and to say otherwise is ignoring the facts. People are afraid to admit this but Edge completely made Cena the big over face where Triple H, Bischoff, Jericho and Angle failed in their efforts. Cena is in a much better position now than a year ago, and yes, Edge is a large part of that. -

I don't understand, has Smackdown been more edgy lately? Are they trying to outperform it? What? And thanks a ton for posting these. I'm trying to figure out why Vince is wanting to compete with his own show. -
Incredible Hulk Movie Announced for June 27, 2008
Kahran Ramsus replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
I don't see the connestion because there isn't one. The only change they made was making Kingpin responcible for Jack Murdock's murder. The origin was handled fine. Daredevil sucked because the love story didn't work, and the action scenes were disappointing. The Director's Cut fixed those problems. The Director's Cut was a much better film too. -

I get the feeling they are going to be going too far in the opposite direction for this one, turning it into a Michael Bay-esque suckfest. I'll wait for the reviews. -
Looks like Finlay is in for a long night carrying all of that luggage.

We wouldn't want to ruin Benoit by allowing him in the same ring as Umaga.

I complain every year about warm-weather sites and domes being used for the Super Bowl. Play the game in Buffalo or Green Bay, like the way it was meant to be played.

Most Annoying Sportswriter
Kahran Ramsus replied to JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan's topic in Sports
Put me down for Steve Simmons. He is an entertaining read, but he seems to hate everything, even if it was something he advocated for two days ago. -
Ok, then. How about 1919? Sure it went 8 Games, but considering it wasn't exactly a legitimate competition it surely ranks up there amongst the worst ever.
-
This one's pretty close, but the 1989 World Series has to take the cake. A one-sided series interrupted for ten days in the middle. What about '44? The Browns were only there because the other teams in the AL lost several star players to the war effort.

If not for the Cardinals scare, I'd go with San Fran too, but the Bears will be out to maul the Niners this week. Why are the Clowns favoured over New York?

And finally a film portrayed Thomas Edison as the asshole that he was. True. I liked how the Tesla/Edison rivalry mirrored the Borden/Angier one.
-
I don't have much to say about it. It was a great film and most people seem to be in agreement. I'm surprised Jackman hung as well with the other actors in this film as he did. I've seen nothing from him in the past to expect this kind of performance. He's quite the scumbag here.

Controversy Creates Cash - Eric Bischoff

It was actually his first match.
