They're over...and we don't know why
Kahran Ramsus replied to Epic Reine's topic in General Wrestling
Because kids want merchandise. Hurricane is a perfectly fine gimmick for openers and so on, but not for a serious push. Lesnar was over because he was one of the few hosses who was actually a great mat wrestler as well. He was one of the best wrestlers in the company. -
Nobody will break it. Masters will just be sent to OVW/fired one week and the whole thing will be dropped.
-
Depends on whether that country respects US Copyright Law or not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You mean like China? Because supposedly the MPAA is after them right now.
-
what the fuck do Yankee fans have to do with wrestling? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I meant fans from the United States. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes. Canadians have a tendency to call all Americans Yankees, whether they are from the North or not. I've noticed people in Florida really don't appreciate being called a Yank.

Is Smackdown better than Raw right now?
Kahran Ramsus replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
Exactly. Smackdown might be good or bad depending on the week, but RAW is just plain boring. Even when RAW's good its dull, because it isn't anything we haven't seen before. I can only think of two RAWs this year that really did something different, one was the Rocker reunion, and the other was the first round of the Gold Rush tournament, specifically with Shelton/Shawn. Other than those two shows it has just been bland. HHH/Benoit in March was good, but who didn't know what the outcome was going to be? The Battle Royal on Smackdown wasn't great, but at least I didn't know who was going to win (I actually thought Rey was). True. I'm of the belief that if the two shows are even anywhere close in terms of quality, Smackdown will be more enjoyable to watch just because the announcing is better. RAW has to clearly be the better show otherwise to make up for that shortcoming. -

The Separatists had an army, hence they were a threat to him. That's why he killed them off. Ever read Animal Farm? Compare it to what happens to Boxer. -
Is Smackdown better than Raw right now?
Kahran Ramsus replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
My problem with RAW is that it is basically the same thing over and over again. HHH gets mad, beats the crap out of someone, and demands a HIAC match. How many times have we seen that storyline before? And everybody else is basically where they were a year ago and will be next year, aside from HHH's next opponent. It is just so dull over there. Nothing happens. Sure Benoit is there, but he hasn't had a meaningful singles match in a long time and Guerrero isn't that much worse than him in the ring. Shelton is one step above being a jobber. He's good, but he gets a chance to show it about once every 6 months. I'm surprised they haven't had him job the title to Chris Masters yet. Smackdown may do stupid things at times, but at least things change and they have a much better idea of who should be pushed. Lets compare... Most heavily pushed guys on RAW HHH (Been on top for years and will be for years to come. Lost twice and still gets another title match) Batista (HHH's spring opponent this year. It isn't a matter of when he loses to HHH but when.) Edge (Has held a title shot for two months now and has done nothing with it. He's in the same position he was before Wrestlemania, only now he has a useless valet.) Randy Orton (Even when injured he got more interview time in one segment than Benoit & Benjamin have gotten in the past year. The most overrated guy on the roster.) Muhammad Hassan (Iron Shiek 2005. Has shown little in the way of talent.) Kane (Back again. Before long he will be in some other stupid storyline and will see his heat disappear, possibly THIS storyline.) On Smackdown JBL (The best promo man in the company) John Cena (The best merchandise seller in the company, and who appeals to an audience that the company has lost since 2000.) Eddy Guerrero (The best wrestler on Smackdown.) Rey Misterio (The second best wrestler on Smackdown.) Kurt Angle (Great wrestler, dumb feud.) Booket T (Ain't what he used to be, but still has a following.) There's no contest as far as I'm concerned. They just had the best match of either man's career. What more do you want? -

And Cushing was charismatic enough to make it work. I realize that he had to be killed off, and the character wasn't that interesting, but Cushing gave a great performance which is rare in these movies. Kind of like McDiarmid in ROTS, without his character being written as well (Palpatine is the one guy Lucas always got right). The lost of Guiness hurt the most though. The good guys aren't the same without him. Like what? The stuff about Sifo-Dyas? We all know that it was Palpatine that manipulate the whole thing. Sifo-Dyas was either Dooku or some other puppet that was then killed off. It doesn't really matter who he was, because Palpatine is the big dog and everyone knows it. -

1. A New Hope. This and ESB might as well be 1 and 1A, but I've always thought that ESB misses the presence of Peter Cushing and especially Alec Guiness. Plus this one had the more engaging climax. It also works better as a stand alone movie thanks to the non-ending of ESB. ESB & ROTJ pretty much have to be watched together. 2. The Empire Strikes Back. What everybody says about this film is true, I just enjoy ANH a little bit more. 3. Revenge of the Sith. Some very emotional moments and could have been right up there with the top two if it was more focused. The whole first half with Greivous is more distracting than important and thus the film drags a bit from the Dooku conflict until Windu/Palpatine. Portman was a terrible Padme. But the last half of the film is quite amazing. 4. Attack of the Clones. The romance was terrible, but I was quite interested in the Obi-Wan/Clones plot and Dooku is a great villain. Non-stop action once Anakin reaches Geonosis. 5. Return of the Jedi. Everything involving Luke, Vader & Palpatine is the best stuff in the series. But the movie fails pretty much everywhere else. I can handle the Jabba sequence, even if it is too cartoony to be any serious threat, but the Endor/Rebel stuff is terrible and the final battle pales in comparison to Hoth & Yavin. The acting from every returning cast member besides Mark Hamill takes a dive. People who complain about Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen in ROTS sure haven't seen Harrison Ford sleep-walking through this one and Carrie Fisher being coked out of her mind. 6. The Phantom Menace. My main problem with this is that it gets away from what we wanted with the prequels in the first place. I really enjoyed the sequences on Tatooine and the Pod Race, but these movies are supposed to be about Anakin and he is barely around for the rest of the film. It doesn't help that the other main character, Obi-Wan Kenobi, spends half the movie sitting on the ship. In addition, Darth Maul was a terrible villain. Even Grievous was more interesting. -

The only reason Vader finds out about Leia (and we are never sure that Vader actually found out that it was Leia, he merely says that Luke has a twin sister) is because he is able to read Luke's mind in ROTJ. He isn't able to find out earlier because neither Luke or Leia know about it then, and Obi-Wan is probably too powerful to get his mind read at ease by that point. -

I know of the EU explanation, but I think he picks Dagobah just because it is so secluded. Who would ever go to Dagobah? And even if you wanted to head there, there is no modern technology and it is sheltered by heavy cloud cover (Luke crashes his X-Wing there on his first trip). Basically he's there because it is safe. -

He got injured on live TV. Before that he wasn't over at all. -
Luger did. He won the World Title with the Torture Rack in August 1997. Tapping out was likely brought in because it gives the audience something to look out for during a submission hold. In the old days, it was just the ref that made the decision most of the time (occasionally you would see the victim nod or something). When they started encouraging more crowd participation in 1996-97, it was a natural transition.

I am a Sid fan, so I feel I can talk about this. Sid got really over because unlike virtually every other wrestler of his day (save Vader, and that was really after Sid got super-over for the first time), he was seen as legitimately threatening. When Diesel powerbombed you it looked like a soft landing, when Sid powerbombed you he drove you into the mat and chances are any lower level guy would be getting stretchered out. That's why Sid got over. He stood out, especially at a time when most wrestlers were treated as jokes. He has this sort of strange charisma about him. As for my pick, Lex Luger. He wasn't any good in the ring after 1990. His was terribly bland on the mic. And for most of his run, his character wasn't anything to speak of. Yet he was pretty consistantly over for most of his career. My only guess is that he got a lot of heat by simply leeching off of Sting most of the time. -

It also doesn't make any sense as Ben had left the Cantina by that point and was busy selling Luke's speeder. -

I always thought Vader was similar to MacBeth, even before Lucas started the prequels. -
What are some great movies you've never seen?

12 Angry Men A Clockwork Orange The Birds The Exorcist Captain Blood The Great Escape The French Connection They should. But if they don't sometimes you can catch them on TV. Lawrence of Arabia in particular is on lots. I first saw The Manchurian Candidate on one of those movie channels. -

The Executor is THE most well known one. Along with the other five that make up the Imperial Death Squadron in ESB (Avenger, Tyrant, Adjudicator, Accuser & Stalker). I don't remember Executor ever being named on film though. They always call it Super Star Destroyer or Vader's ship. The Avenger certainly is. -

Yep. Most of the Star Destroyers have names. The only one I actually remember being named in the movies though is the Avenger (Needa's Star Destroyer in ESB). The Devastator is one of the more well known ones. -

Probably the second best opening of the series behind the Tantive IV/Devastator one in ANH. -
How can the FBI get involved in the affairs of other countries?

Money Inc won their second tag titles that way with a Million Dollar Dream on Earthquake. Also, I think that is how Roddy Piper won his IC Title too. Piper also used it to put out Hogan in the main event of Starrcade 96. It used to happen more often than you think. Just not too often in high-profile matches.

Or that the painfully obvious turn last week pissed people off.

It is arguable that Pelagious even knew. Notice how quickly Palpatine backs off the position of how he can prevent death once Anakin joins him. It is possible that Palpatine was lying. -
This is why I tend to follow the WWE Title more, even though they keep trying to make it look second rate. Brock Lesnar...New star in his first reign. Big Show...Brief title run to avoid doing Brock/Angle until Mania. First time he had it since 1999, and actually revived his career after being a jobber on RAW. Kurt Angle...2 time former champion, this was the first time he wasn't a joke. Brock Lesnar...Lesnar's first face run. Kurt Angle...This is the only one I found a little strange. Probably just hoping to capitalize off of the neck injury. Brock Lesnar...Back to Brock, where it probably should have stayed since Mania. Eddy Guerrero...Longtime smark favourite given his first title run. JBL...Another first time champion, who miraculously ended up being the best champion in years. Came from the midcard and this was his first real push of any value. John Cena...Yet another first time champion and rising star. Arguably the most over guy in the company. Other than the Kurt Angle run in Summer 2003 (and arguably Big Show's title reign, although I know why they did it), this belt has been booked a lot better than the World Title. That Angle reign is also the only time that the belt has been won back by the former champion (twice; first when he won it, and then when he lost it) I feel the same way about the Tag Titles. How many times have La Resistance held the World Tag Titles? MNM might be green (well Nitro anyways), but at least they are somebody new and that have a lot of potential.
