If that's true, then why were the storylines in WCW 2000 and WWF 1999 so bad compared to WWF 97 and 98? 90% of the show in those years were complete trash, but soley because of Bret Hart (97) and Steve Austin (both years) nobody cared. When the the main events started reflecting the rest of the show in 1999, the product was the worst in WWF history. Russo was a terrible writer that happened to get lucky. The best creatively that WWF has been since the Golden Age is roughly the period from November 2000 (around the time Angle showed up, give or take a couple of weeks) and Unforgiven 2000 (when they jobbed Kurt out to HHH). It was okay for a couple of months afterwards, but really started sucking around Survivor Series. Survivor Series 2000 was a complete disaster of a PPV that turned the company completely in the wrong direction from which they never really recovered creativily. I agree that rock bottom was in the spring of 2002 (or fall 2002 if you only count RAW), and they are better now than they were then, but it never was as good as they were pre-Survivor Series 2000. Even Wrestlemania X-7, which was a great show matchwise, wasn't built up very well, aside from the Shane/Vince match.

The Jays have at least started off the season well for once. Last year they started it off by getting swept at home by Detroit.

Can a Afro American ever be a big main eventer?

JYD was easily over enough to main event, even though he sucked as a worker. Imagine if he was actually good. -
That seems to indicate that Batista is winning.

The problem is that the federal Liberals would paint Lenin as a radical right-winger and their lemming followers would nod in unison.
-
I would like to think that this would get the Liberals out of power finally, but I'm beginning to think that Ontarians don't even know about this and will just vote Liberal out of habit.

I don't if you can find the source, but I remember it too. Now I can't verify how accurate the survey was though. The findings were that Americans know more about America than Canadians know about Canada, that Canadians know more about America than they do Canada, and that Americans knew virtually nothing about Canada. For example, only something like 20% of Canadians according to the survey knew that our Head of State is Queen Elizabeth II. I'm just going off of memory here, but it was something in that ballpark.
-
You're right and it is very sad. I wish Canadians showed the patriotism towards our own country that Americans do with their's. I am deeply disappointed anytime I run into a Canadian who can't tell me who James Wolfe is.

OHL Playoffs are on now, so I don't really care. Tomorrow Ottawa should get done mopping up the Colts.

How have you done w/ WM Main Event Picks?
Kahran Ramsus replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
- Batista Vs HHH - Batista - JBL Vs Cena - JBL - Benoit Vs HHH Vs HBK - HHH. Take a guess why I picked him. I would have picked Shawn but he was working injured. - Eddie Vs Angle - Eddy - Brock Vs Angle - Brock - Booker Vs HHH - HHH - HHH Vs Jericho - HHH - Rock Vs Austin - Austin - Foley Vs Show Vs Rock Vs HHH - Rock. At this point the heel never won, and there was no point in having Foley win. -
No, because that was just an exception where two people went out in one night. In normal circumstances, only the Ulong member would have been voted out and Willard would still be there. We'd just have one extra person still in the game.

Along these same lines, as a kid I always wanted to see Damien vs. Frankie.

The good news is that Terry will never have to see her husband again. Because there is no way he is ever going to get to where she's going. -

Exactly. And it extends post-war as well and into fiction. Would Raiders of the Lost Ark have worked as well if the Soviets were the villains? Indy would have been dead. The Russians didn't mess around. Bullet to the head, next person. They were pretty bad with James Bond. -

History doesn't hold Stalin in any better light than Hitler. It is the general public that sees Hitler as being that much worse, not historians. They know better. And it is primarily for three reasons. 1) What I said above? The Nazis were just cooler than Stalin was. Compare the colourful SS outfits with those rags that the Soviets wore. They both killed millions of people, but Hitler did it in style. The Nazis were better on camera. 2) Hitler started the greatest war in the history of mankind. Stalin not only didn't, but he was on our side. 3) Much of what Stalin did we never found out or at least could verify until after the breakup of the Soviet Union. And by that point we had 40 years of people knowing exactly what the Nazis had done. There is a fourth reason which I don't think is that important, but it is worth talking about. Germans are the closest ethnicity in Europe to that of the English, so what they did may have hit closer to home than what the Russians did. -

The thing about Hitler is that although Stalin was just about as evil, Hitler did things in style with his occult beliefs, death camps, and right down to his snappy uniforms and hand gestures. He was systematically evil, kind of like the Empire in Star Wars. Stalin was just a generic bad guy. He wasn't as interesting. -
I've Been Out Of The Loop For A Few Years...

1.What happened to Chris "harvard" nowinski? Is he still wrestling? Is he good? ANSWER: He was injured at some point a couple of years ago and hasn't returned. I think he had to retire. 2.Seriously, BRADSHAW is a main eventer?? When did this happen? Does he have legit heat? Can he draw? ANSWER: He under went a complete character transformation last year and became a rich Texan stereotype. He gets tons of heat and isn't a great draw, but isn't noticebly worse than whatever RAW is doing. Some people around here actually love the guy now, and I'm one of them. Very entertaining, and his ringwork is steadily improving. 3. Who are the workhorses of the WWE brand now? Back then it was benoit/guerro/angle. They would completely outshine the rest of the roster, and benoit wasn't even a main eventer then. ANSWER: They are Benoit, Guerrero, Angle & Rey Misterio. Nothing much has changed here, other than Rey coming in in the summer of 2002. 4. Brock Lesnar quit, but is he back now? Thought I read something in a wrestling magazine... ANSWER: He quit to join the NFL, but he was too bad for even the Minnesota Vikings, and refused to go to NFL Europe. He tried coming back but Vince wouldn't give him the time off he wanted so now he's suing him. Don't expect to see him back any time soon as practically everyone in the company hates him. Kind of the like Jeff Jarrett. 5.Randy Orton- Face or Heel? AND Can he wrestle a match? ANSWER: He got semi-over as a heel last year, then turned face to win the World Title at Summerslam and flopped miserably to the point that he was getting heavily booed in his feud against HHH. He tried to work a face-face feud with Undertaker for Mania, but the negative reaction to him was so overwhelming they had to do a quicky heel turn. Now he needs shoulder surgery that will put him out for a few months. He has almost no charisma whatsoever, but he's an okay worker. 6. Batista- Face or Heel? And can he wrestle a match? ANSWER: He was a heel for years, but by this fall was getting the most face heat in the company because he looked so strong and was actually a threat to HHH. He turned face a month ago after winning the Royal Rumble and choosing to face HHH at Mania (then beating the crap out of HHH & Flair). He's easily the most over wrestler on the roster, and his segments have drawn noticebly better ratings than anything else the company is doing. His big face turn was the highest rated segment in years for RAW. He's not the greatest wrestler in the world, but he's not terrible. 7. What became of the two Tough Enough winners? (they were both guys..) I think it was season 3? ANSWER: They floundered around as a tag team for awhile on Smackdown before being sent down to OVW. John got promoted to RAW for a little bit as Johnny Nitro who was Bischoff's lackey, but he got sent back down to OVW following a job to Eugene. 8.Where is Vince Russo now? ANSWER: I don't know and I don't want to know. 9. Has Rob Van Dam done anything worthwhile in the past couple years? Or is he still doing 4 minute matches with Taijiri? ANSWER: He tagged with Kane to win the Tag Titles, then he got beat by Kane after they broke up. Then he tagged with Booker to win the Tag Titles, and got beat by him after they were traded to Smackdown and broke up. Then he teamed with Rey to win the Tag Titles, and got injured and we haven't seen him since. Basically he's stuck on a treadmill. 10. Gimme the top 4 wrestlers in each brand. "workrate"wise and "heat-wise". ANSWER: Heatwise Smackdown: JBL, Eddy Guerrero, Undertaker, John Cena Workrate Smackdown: Eddy Guerrero, Rey Misterio, Kurt Angle, Paul London Heatwise RAW: Batista, HHH, Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit Workrate RAW: Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Edge Generally speaking, Smackdown has the better wrestlers, RAW has the bigger stars. 11. Any new guys on the scene that have absolutely BLOWN you guys away? ANSWER: Shelton Benjamin is a fantastic wrestler who just missed out on my top 4 for workrate on RAW. Batista as mentioned has become the most popular star in the company. John Cena has gotten great reactions too. 12. What are some of the biggest news items that has rocked the wrestling world (backstage-wise) in the past 2 years? One of the last things I remember was the infamous "Flight from hell" situation where Brock Lesnar and Mr Perfect almost killed the entire flight crew... ANSWER: Brock Lesnar quits WWE two weeks before Wrestlemania XX is probably the biggest. -
The appeal is in the chase. They should have the title win be the blowoff, not start the feud with it. Once JBL loses he's probably going down the card faster than Honky Tonk Man did.
-
So they're using WrestleMania to build to...Judgment Day?!? Yeah I'm not calling you stupid because you're absolutely right, but WWE is stupid Not necessarily...it might be Great American Bash.
-
I really can't see the Cena/JBL feud ending at Mania. They have had about a month of build and is Smackdown's biggest match. They will extend it at least to Judgment Day in order to get more out of it. Cena will win the fued and the title, but that means JBL is retaining this time.
