  1. This Tom Rothman guy sounds awesome. He knows how to make money.

Last I heard he was on the verge of getting fired because he's alienated top talent and FOX had a terrible year last year because nobody wants to see their shitty films. I don't know how much is rumour and how much is fact.

Don't forget Die Hard 4 being PG-13 (meaning that the trademark "Yippie Ki Yay..." had to to be obscured huh.gif ).

Yeah. Like I said, there are so many that I'd be here all night writing them all in my post.

  2. Why can't we just have more people play? I want in on this shit! You're all a bunch of fuckers and I'm gone flood your draft threads until they esplode!

Because if I continue to add participants, then this thing is going to take forever and a day. It already took three months with eighteen people last time.

I will sign you up for the Summer draft, which will only consist, first and foremost, of new players who have missed out. I already bowed out of the active game to make room because I felt there were too many participants and somebody who missed out last time really wanted in.

After I've done this once, I'll have no desire to do it again in the summer anyways.

  3. Care to elaborate why Tom Rothman is a dirty word?

He's the classic Meddling Executive and has ruined many a movie by his insistance on them being PG and having a run time of 90 minutes. It has gotten to the point where many high profile directors simply refuse to work with FOX anymore. Dragonball Evolution and Wolverine are his latest in a long line of atrocities.

    What were the others?

X3, Fantastic Four 1 & 2, Alien vs. Predator, Daredevil, Kingdom of Heaven, etc. There are really too many to name them all.

  4. Shows how much I was paying attention, I didn't even think we were voting yet.

    Action/Adventure - The Dark Knight

    Comedy - Ghost Busters

Crime & Gangster - Godfather Part II

    Drama - Shawshank Redemption

    Epic & Historical - Casablanca

Horror - Silence of the Lambs

Sci-Fi - The Empire Strikes Back

War & Western - Apocalypse Now

  5. My first show was on 24/7 not that long ago (although they showed the matches out of order for some reason) from Maple Leaf Gardens on April 23, 1989. As a kid it was the biggest thing in the world. I became a huge Mr. Perfect fan after this show. I was 8 at the time.

WWF Championship: Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage

    Mr. Perfect vs. Bret Hart

    Ted Dibiase vs. Jake Roberts

    Brainbusters vs. Bushwhackers

    Greg Valentine vs. Blue Blazer

Honky Tonk Man vs. Hillbilly Jim

    Paul Roma vs. Boris Zhukov

    Hercules vs. Dino Bravo

    See you next season.

If they want to torpedo their season by getting Favre, that's fine by me. He's a 39 year old QB that needs shoulder surgery that he's refusing to have and he is coming off the worst season of his career. This isn't the same situation as last year, where it looked like he had something left.

  7. Eh, why not? I think the categories are little off (Lawrence of Arabia isn't a historical epic, but Jurassic Park is?) but I'll put in some noms.

Action & Adventure: Raiders of the Lost Ark

    Comedy: Ghostbusters

    Crime & Gangster: The Godfather

    Drama: Casablanca

    Epics & Historical: Ben-Hur

    Horror: Psycho

    Sci-Fi: Blade Runner

    War & Westerns: Shane

  8. Maybe not the best show I've seen, but certainly the most fun was a house show in Ottawa shortly before Wrestlemania 2000. HHH/Road Dogg vs. Rock/Kane, Big Show/Rikishi, Jericho vs. Benoit vs. Angle, Edge & Christian vs. Dudleys, Hardys vs. Malenko/Saturn. I was really into wrestling at the time and it was the first live event I had attended in years.

  9. The problem is not the number of people who didn't order Invasion because of the lack of names, but the ones who didn't order Summerslam, Unforgiven and so on because that is when the buyrates started to dive. Unless you're trying to tell me that Austin/Angle would have been just as big a draw as say Austin/Goldberg. The buyrate for Invasion is probably about the max it would have been gotten, but with bigger names the WWF could have gotten Invasion-like buyrates for months. Instead ratings, attendance and buys were down across the board coming out of 2001 compared to what they were coming into the year.

  10. TLC used to actually be "The Learning Channel" and would show cool engineering and science, or military, or nature shows. Then over a couple of years it devolved to the point where it shows nothing but wedding preparation and makeover shows

This one is the worst to me because I used to watch it all the time and now it is the same old makeover crap.

Discovery Civilization has gone downhill too. I used to watch it all the time when it was focused on ancient, medieval and early modern history, especially since the demise of the History Channel as mentioned above, but lately it has been going down the same path as History has. At least the Nazis are a big part of history, but keep this paranormal garbage on the sci-fi channels where it belongs.

Next thing you know NFL Network is going to start showing bowling all day to really piss me off.

  11. I think everyone has jumped on the Nolan Ryan is overrated bandwagon to the point that he might be underrated again

Excellent point, Bob. All my life I've heard how overrated Ryan was because of the Ks and no-hitters but lackluster numbers otherwise. Those people do have a point, but he was still an above-average pitcher for more than 20 years with the occasional lights-out performance. Al hit it on the head: good pitcher with HOF credentials, but not one of the all-time greats.

So who are we, as TSMers, collectively calling the best pitcher ever? Walter Johnson?

    My vote's for Mathewson.

  12. I swear I posted in here already, but I guess not. How in the world have we gotten almost 60 posts in without mentioning Sid stabbing Arn Anderson with a pair of safety scissors right as he was about to get a world title run? That's not dropping the ball, that's throwing it at the ground then taking a swing at it.

On the same note, what about RVD who had just won two World Titles then got caught with marijuana and promptly ended up losing both within a day of each other?

  13. Now imagine if instead had it been The Rock, Steve Austin, Undertaker, Kurt Angle & Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair, Sting, Hulk Hogan, Bill Goldberg & Kevin Nash. That would have been huge. Team WWF would still win in the end (they basically had to for the feud to work), but it would have generated far more interest.

If the WWF had had those names then, providing the booking had been even half decent, Team WCW would have won the match because the feud would still be red hot. You could have even kept it going until Mania, with the idea going in of WCW threatening to kill the WWF at the biggest event of the year.

I could see that. I meant that the WWF would eventually win the blowoff, whenever and whatever that might be.

  14. It was so bad that by Survivor Series it ended up being Rock, Jericho, Kane, Undertaker & Big Show against Austin, Angle, RVD, Booker T & Shane McMahon. Team WCW was being represented by one guy who was actually associated with WCW.

  15. The difference between 1995 & 2007 to me is that at least in 1995 you could make fun of how bad the product was, kind of like how watching Batman & Robin or Street Fighter: The Movie can be enjoyable for the wrong reasons in the right circumstances. But in 2007 it was just so downright depressing because of what was happening. It was bigger than the product and it made it very difficult to watch and enjoy it.
