The MAC Champion has always gone to the MCB, but the "commitment" is overrated, yeah. It's a matter of other bowls wanting them bad enough, and I think a 13-0 Ball State team that can make an argument for the BCS will be coveted more than a 9-3 Pac 10 team, for instance.

No, they can break that "commitment" very easily. Just a matter of whether it happens or not. A lot of other bowls will have trouble filling their slot and a 13-0 (potentially) team will be very appealing to some bowls. I still say Liberty Bowl vs. Boise State would rock, as challenging as it might be to set up for that bowl's committee. (Plus, they do have to win the MAC first. Let's say they lose that game, then that might actually HELP them. Isn't that crazy?)

Ball State better not go to the Motor City Bowl like Marshall did in 1999 (I think). That would be unfair. They deserve a good bowl game. Not a BCS one, but definitely a New Year's Day Bowl. They really impressed me against CMU and WMU.

I wouldn't be so sure. The NFL can get pretty unpredictable. It's not looking good, but I bet at least one of those teams makes it out of the first round.

I remember that game all too well... my last football season living in Minnesota, going into that game I was thinking it was going to be a wash for the Vikings since they had just come off an NFC title game thorough cavity cleaning appearance, plus they generally did well in their home openers under Green, while the Panthers were coming off an average season... then the Panthers returned the opening kickoff for a TD and it was all downhill from there. On the forum I was posting at the time I said "Wow, I suppose these Panthers really are different from last year's team." Imagine my embarrassment when I found that post again shortly after season's end. Well, you were right. They didn't go 1-15 in 2000!

I just realized the Panthers in 2001 won the first game 24-13 then lost 15 in a row. That's something. (I think NE or IND in 1991 did this also, but they beat the other one of those teams, who also went 1-15)

It won't matter if they beat A+M on Thursday, Saturday, or one second before they vote.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "in a way". They at least had their chance. 2007 Hawaii did not luck out because everyone knew they were frauds. Just like Ball State this year would probably get killed in s BCS game this year (although they're better than that Hawaii team). It comes down to talent more than scheduling. Good mid majors are good, Great ones are great. It's easy to tell the difference sometimes. Speaking of Hawaii, does anyone know why a team playing there gets to count it as a 13th game and it's non exempt by the NCAA or something? How does this work? If Cincy loses, they won't count it in the record books? I don't understand it. And how come Hawaii doesn't play 13 games?

Oh. Well.. those 2001 Hurricanes were pretty damn amazing. Most talented and dominant college football team ever vs. most talented and dominant NBA team ever. So, close matchup. Comes down to voters mindset really.

I think you can say those Bucs were pretty bad and the 08 Lions wouldn't automatically worse just because they had 2 more games to lose. I, of course, never saw them play, but I've seen "highlights", and it's amazing they made the NFC title game in 3 years.

I don't think the 72 win Bulls team is the best sports team ever. However, I'd LOVE to see a potential worst sports team ever list. If it wasn't all Clippers vs Clippers.

They've both won national titles, though. I do wish that Utah team got a better game than Pittsburgh so we'd know for sure. Boise lucked out playing OU in a way.

2004 Utah vs 2006 Boise would have been quite a game. Utah had more NFL talent and a coach you may have heard of, but Boise had a better overall team, so it would have been a battle for sure.

I'd go, in order of best to worst.. 07 Dolphins, 08 Lions, 01 Panthers. Those Panthers were AWFUL and I can't believe I forgot them. The 07 Dolphins would beat this Lions team by a TD or 10 points. They had a good running game, at least, and the defense wasn't totally laughable at times.
