Surprised he wasn't made to wear a gold jumpsuit...oh, they had Goldust!

At a guess, I'd say it was to represent one of his other amateur wins, he picked-up a few Junior titles in the late 80s.

    The Old School questions thread

I just seem to remember someone screaming "Hulkamania is DEAD" and not in a way that they used to after, for example, Earthquake sat on him. But that magazine article was classic - so over the top it did come across as a bit too much!

    The Old School questions thread

I seem to remember the commentators pretty much running down Hogan and burying him as he was stretchered away. But, according to "Hogan's" book (okay, obviously crap and he didn't actually write it) he said something along the lines of "I wasn't fired, and I didn't quit, we just both agreed I'd work on other things away from performing in the ring". Which brings me on to another question. Of all the books released by the WWE in recent years, I am right ins aying only Foley's ones have been written by the actual wrestler whose name is on the cover? Though that's the same or most autobiographies, to be fair, and makes me surprised that so many people slated Hogan for "his" book when he just clearly signed for it and took the cash.

IIRC, Paul Bearer was Mankind's "mommy-figure" but yes, Sable was taunted by Mankind during that time you've mentioned. I've got a feeling there was a bizarre storyline intended (according to Foley's book) but it was scrapped. Thankfully...

From my figures it would be 33 reigns - if his last WCW title win during the Invasion counts. Why wouldn't it? Just always considered it a grey area - with the championships still being considered as the same as when WCW was a separate company, but changing hands within the WWF. Or perhaps I just want to forget the Invasion altogether!

This can't be right. I would think Edge has him beat. yup. RVD has 16, Edge has 20 Raven held the Hardcore title 27 times if that counts...

Does anyone have the clip of Ahmed Johnson slamming Yokozuna? Thanks.
  10. Can't see a Wrestlemania as such, no, and the problems with time difference do cause problems with other events. Just from memory, SS92 started getting dark-ish around half-way through, which would have been, I guess, 10pm-ish UK time. Still amazed SS92 sold out as well as it did, given the lack of WWF coverage in the UK at the time - thought as you suggest, those days of huge crowds are gone. Perhaps when the global territory system starts...

Can't be denied the crowd loved it. But when it comes to getting that sort of crowd going, nobody does it like Hogan. Good job Hogan was allowed to compete with his busted eye (however he did it) otherwise things could have been very different... Edit to ask a "quick" question... The crowd at Summerslam 92 at Wembley Stadium was given as 80,355, but having been there for a near-sellout football match with just under 80,000, I'd put the real crowd at somewhere nearer 90,000. But, apart from that, I've been told over the years by more than one person, that the tickets were sold as for a football match - ie the most expensive seats were the ones further back, not the ringside seats. Does anyone know, perhaps if anyone went, if that was true?

Just flicked through WMIV and the Hogan v Andre tournament match is not very easy on the eye...

A terrible ending with who it was...but an ending that could, and should, be used again with someone more deserving than him, IMO. If it would work in the current era, which I doubt. How close to "curtain-up" can the outcome be decided, then? Literally until the music hits (apart from during match alterations via the referee)?

That picture raises a few questions! But going back to Yoko quickly, my main problem with him was that I never found him a believable monster. He was portrayed as a sumo champion, and sumo is considered a very honourable sport! Though as was mentioned above, the WWF roster was pretty light back then - Bret was defending the belt across the country against the likes of Kamala, after all... But here's another thought (and not really answerable, I suppose)...what if at WMIX, Bret had beaten Yoko and Hulk had come down and demanded "his" belt back and then squashed Bret in 30 seconds, turning Hogan heel - then he gives a speech as he did when he joined the nWo? Or were Hogan and the WWE so through in 1993 that it would never have been worthwhile?
  15. Perhaps they'll have Summerslam, etc, back at the new Wembley Stadium in the next few years. Retractable roof and 90,000 seats...could put the WMIII bullshit to bed once and for all! The Wembley Retractable roof only covers the seats. Cardiff Millenium Stadium is 80,000 seats with a full retractable roof but has about a tenth of the glamour of wembley I had no idea that the Wembley roof only covered the seats. Seems odd... But the capacity for non-football events is low, too: 90,000 (Football) 75,000 (Concerts) 60,000 (Athletics) Which seems odd... Either way, it'd be a good venue to use - and better than the Millenium Stadium, for sure!

Yeah, I'd agree with you both thinking about it. Though, if we were to believe Hogan's book (sure!!!) then the finish was only decided upon a few hours before WMIX, and if it was really left that late and he suggested it, I wouldn't have been surprised if it was agreed to. In hindsight, they may have well ended Yoko before they started with him. His year with the belt was truly awful, for so many reasons. Though, for a period of time from 93 onwards, who really could run with the ball? Still don't think Luger's "bodyslams" on him really were genuine slams, though!

    The Old School questions thread

Couple of questions related to the same thing... If Hogan was planning on staying with the WWF post-KOTR 1993, would they have had him bodyslam Yokozuna during either the WM IX debacle (if Hogan was capable, given his condition) or at the KOTR itself... And... Were either of the bodyslams Lex Luger delivered to Yoko, either on the USS Intrepid or at SummerSlam 93, genuinely bodyslams. Footage I've looked back at (and from memory of seeing the events) can hardly be classed in the same league as Hogan's WMIII slam on Andre. Oh, and am I right in saying Hogan also slammed Andre after their WMIV DDQ?

    Risk of Blood Diseases

Though, to be fair, boxing refs have to actually inspect cuts closely with their hands. And it is a very common thing to happen during boxing. Are wrestling referees even trained first-aiders? The actual people they have to deal with injuries clearly do wear gloves, though.

    Worst Wrestlemania Matches

Would that be too quick to be bad? Didn't it just go a minute or two? Well, that's it. Was just over a minute with HHH getting some offensive in, hitting the pedigree only for Warrior to jump straight up and do his stuff and win. If Vince really wanted to punish HHH, he should have had him pinned without getting any offence in or be given at least a five minute burial. Though at least it WAS short - some matches have just dragged on for 95 per cent longer than they should have. Heck, even the Shawn v Bret Iron Man looks poor by some standards today...

Ultimate Warrior v HHH at Wrestemania XII. Obviously there were reasons for it, but it was hardly the most thought through match...

    Risk of Blood Diseases

It's not as easy to catch a blood-borne disease as some might think. And given that blading is done when the perfomer is sweating a lot, the actual blood quickly becomes diluted. And there's little chance for blood to transfer from one person internally to another. But, as said above, it's mainly because transfer is not as easy (unless in the case of an actual blood transfusion) as some might think.

Mabel accidentally fell on one of the Quebecers, who was pinned - and given his weight, there was not much that could be done about it. The titles were then reversed back two days later at another house show.
