Who Are the Legends of the Wrestling Industry?
The Truthiness replied to The Truthiness's topic in General Wrestling
People switched over to watch WCW, because they had a better product, they switched back to WWE because WWE started having a better product. Hogan was there 2 years before people stated switching to WCW, when Hogan turned heel it gave them something new, but Nash and Hall had a lot to do with that also. WWE took back over, because Austin pushed the envelope further and also gave the fans something new. They didn't just switch back because Michaels left WWE. -

If we're going off "casual fans", Dusty Rhodes probably isn't a legend either. So that really isn't a stong defense. -

Not naive, just stating a fact. Hogan, Austin, Flair and Rock are legends. Shawn, for all his talent, just doesn't fit in that group. No, he doesn't fit in that goup, but neither does Jerry Lawler. That doesn't mean they aren't legends. It just mean he isn't as big of an legend as those particular guys. So it isn't really a "fact" at all. -
Well, not really. Hogan still was in the main event, he still won the match, he probably got paid more than Michaels, and he's still the bigger name. Shawn acted childish and whined about jobbing the next night. I think its fair too say, if a point was proven, It was Hogan that made the point.

I'd take Cole/Coach, Leonard/Prazak, or any combination over Tenay/DW. Cole is a fine commentator, he gets a story across and shows good emotion more times than not. His work with Taz was very good, and his 2 years with JBL were perfect. Coach isn't very good, but I enjoy his one liners way more than DW/Tenay yelling like 2 retards from the opening match all the way through the main event.

1. Do you think WWE properly handled the storyline for this match? Yes, it was nice too see Michaels as a heel again. 2. Do you think Shawn Michaels' overselling helped or hindered the match? I think it hindered the match. It was unprofessional and prickish. Michaels acted like a brat in that match. With that said, I'm glad he did it too Hogan, couldn't have happened to a better guy. 3. Has this match affected the way you look at either Hogan or Michaels as workers or as people? Not really, they're both pretty much full of themselves, I always believed that and this match pretty much proved it. 4. What impact, if any, do you think this match has had on their legacies? None at all, the wrong guy went over. 5. Will we see another match between two wrestlers of this caliber (popularity wise) again? Have we seen one already, perhaps? I think we seen one better than this, and more memorable last sunday. The match last sunday also did something for both guys legacies.

The match Carlito had with Benjamin, did not suck in the least.
-
That match had a pretty good build, they started off just trading arm locks, than they just started beating the shit out of eachother. The ending was pretty good.

SD Jones was awesome.

It's kind of cool Edge is sporting Chavo's shirt.

I think the plan was always for Bret to face Backlund at mania, because of the survivor series mess. Diesel/HBK was the most logical storyline, because HBK became bitter that his bodyguard got the title before him. The storylines at the time were booked for a mania showdown for both feuds. Diesel/Hart was just a match they booked to boost a buyrate, because it gave the show a big match to compliment the Rumble.

Or after Shawn goes over Batista in a face vs. face match, you could just have Batista destroy Shawn the next night or after the match. His reasoning could be he thinks Shawn's is an egotistical prick and has always thought so. The Flair thing just made him finally speak out about it, than Shawn beating him sends him over the edge. Now he is just obsessed with destroying Michaels, retiring Flair pissed him off, but losing to HBK himself, was a massive blow to his ego.
-
This make sense, and you don't have to use Flair getting crushed by Batista to make it effective. Use it as a "piggyback" to start a feud, than turn it in to something personal between Batista and Michaels.
-
1.It's pretty senseless. Two guys like Batista/HBK shouldn't need a Flair beat down to get over THEIR feud. If HBK/Batista has already started feuding about Flair's retirement, and then you add Flair getting beat down in the angle. That would mean that Batista/HBK is nothing more than a continual edition of Flair's retirement angle. Which means the entire angle with Flair was pretty much for nothing. 2. Yes you are. 3. Which is why they shouldn't have used Flair as a issue for Michaels/Batista's program anyway. 4: More sympathetic for what exactly? A comeback? Because that's what it would probably have to lead too. 5. The fan already want Batista to be a "massive dick", all he has to do is embrace it. Beating down Shawn Michaels would do that in 5 minutes. If they're just using Flair, as a method to advance it in to something personal between Batista/HBK, that would be adequate, even though I even hate that proposal. To bring back Flair, to help advance the storyline, is just a waste in my opinion.

Race was long through with wrestling and retired rather quietly. Nobody gave Race such a big send off, and plus Race was still bumping around as Vader's manager years before the Orton thing. Sadly, it wasn't a big deal when Race retired, like it was for Flair's retirement. Edge and MVP beating up Michaels Hayes is just like Harley, plus it was probably Hayes idea seeing as he is the head booker of the show. WWE put in a lot of work, to give Flair the biggest send off ever. Tarnishing that storyline, to get over a feud between two established main event players is a mistake. HBK/Batista shouldn't be feuding any way, Batista should be feuding with Umaga, HBK should be working with a guy like Morrison, or even looking for another shot at Orton, because their feud didn't really have a ending. The reason they're probably going with HBK/Batista now, is because Batista goes in to these "I should be in a more high profile feud" phase, and becomes a lazy fuck. So as a result the feud with Umaga was probably scratched.

He did it kind of sarcastically in the promo with Orton after his comeback, while explaining to Orton that it doesn't matter who've you beaten in the past, ironically. The last few times he did it, it was for cheap heat, as was all the times he talked about it from 2001-2005.
-
Because he couldn't just punch Flair, he'd have to beat Flair down. Than he'd have to brag about it, and in WWE people are known for beating a dead horse with a guy gloating about something he did years ago. Tiple H did it with Foley, Orton did it for years with Foley, and Jericho does with his victory over Austin and Rock in the same night. I don't want to add, Batista bragging about beating down Flair to that list. Flair should be through with the physical part of westling, he can still be a special guest or something, he shouldn't have to get beat down to get over a storyline, by 2 guys who are over with the fans enough to tell their own compelling story.
-
No, Flair's last physical enounter should be the one he had at mania. There is a million ways to turn Batista in to a 'Mega heel", ruining Flair's retirment to get Batista more over is kind of crazy.
-
I got a funny feeling Flair is going to get involved in this angle. Which is why this feud is going to suck, because all its going to do is ruin (arguably) the best storyline ever.

Should Austin come back for one last match at Mania 25?
The Truthiness replied to Angle-plex's topic in The WWE Folder
Austin and JBL would be all kinds of awesome. -
I agree, but I think they wanted to protect Taker to the TV audience, I'm fine with that. I think he's a bit of a "mark" for himself, but hey, still glad he made a appearence.
-
Ok, long as Taker showed up, I don't mind that it wasn't on tv.

I'm sure Chavo, Val, and Richards all have cushy agent jobs when they finally retire. \ I think it's over Snit, D and D, and probably Kevin Thorn. Harris, Killings, Cabana, and Sydall will all debut this year. I also have a feeling WWE will make a play for Danielson in the near future, Eric Stevens seems like a guy they'd give a developmental deal too also.
-
Funny you say that, because during that final segment for a second i thought to myself "now Hogan is gonna come back just so he can have a retirement farewell speech and try to top this one" Hey, he does owe HBK a job. Show would be the one he gives the job, after dominating the match and no selling most of Show's offense.
-
Watch Hogan try to out do this, I hate to say it but he will.
