The One and Only Smackdown! July 4, 2002 Thread

Smackdown was okay this week. Last week's was better, but being okay is pretty damn good considering how crappy that show's been for months. I like the fact that the WWE is showing some direction.

 

Not much else I want to say other than you can put me in the same boat with the people who think Hogan & Edge are just keeping the tag belts warm for 2/3 of the Canadian Mafia. Also, this week has shown that value of the top title hasn't been diminished, and though I didn't like the ending, I thought it was cool to see Angle go all shootstyle and bust out the triangle choke on Taker.

Yes...the Smurfs were based around Communist ideals of "everyone has their own special place in society" that is governed by one person whose decision is final (though he does listen to the other Smurfs from time to time)

Was the pre-taped portion of the main event aired? I didn't notice anything, but then I was in and out of the room so I wasn't paying much mind. Anyone have any screen captures to show the difference?

Yes, I believe it was during the pinfall/tapout, you could see the crowd near the ramp waving a bunch of american flags and holding a big "HHH" sign.

I swear to god watching the crowd had to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen in the WWF. Before they switched to the new ending, the crowd was *DEAD* and on their hands, and MC and TAzz weren't exactly too excited either.

 

Then, all of a sudden... YAAAAAAY OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! UNDERTAKER~! AND KURT ANGLE~! WHAT A MAIN EVENT! LETS JUMP AROUND AND WAVE AROUND OUR ARMS WILDLY IN EXCITEMENT! WAHOOOOOOOOO! WE'RE IN BOSTON WATCHING SMACKDOWN *LIVE*! YAY!

 

I swear they looked like a No Mercy/Smackdown! crowd from a video game. I almost expected them to be 2D cardboard cutouts.

If anyone could provide a "Before & After" clip of the magic video edit, it would be much appreciated. I, unfortunately, forgot to set my VCR when I went to see fireworks on the Fourth, thus missing re-taped ending.

 

By the way, does anybody else think that HHH sign in the re-shoot was put in there specifically to piss off smarks? I wouldn't put it past them.

The Flashback? I guess it's better than calling it a Drop Sleeper. And it's better than the Breakdown.

I just realized I never commented in my own One and Only Smackdown! Thread... but anyway, yea the Breakdown looked really fake when it was done live. It looks pretty cool in No Mercy, but it just didn't look good in real life, too slow and not much of an impact.

Yea, but Stacy Keibler was the one who was wearing (and stripped of) the American flag.

It doesn't help when no one takes it right. Your suppose to land on your chest and face, but everyone puts their hands up and it looks stupid. All you have to do is go straight down and turn your head to a side and then go straight down. Oh well.
